    My question is: If this is possible,why didn't Toyota stick a V8 in the damn TC to begin with. They can still make a crappy fuel efficient, all-show, no-go, four-banger base model for the "30-something secretary" market, but why not plop in the 3UZ and create a worthy car. Oh wait, I forgot Toyoya is too busy trying to lose this market to Nissan, Ford, and of course, Hyundai.

    This form of motorsport is being ruined by factory backed cars, like many other motorsports in the past. It started with Hubinnete and his factory backed Viper, then with Millen and his factory backed Pontiacs. Now Millen has a factory backed Hyundai, Gitten a factory backed Ford, Foust a factory backed Toyota. The cars will soon be nothing like their street counterparts.


    I propose that we at the grassroots level counter this trend by organizing a series like 24 Hours of Lemons, except for drifting. $500 budget cap on cars, and bonus points for doing dangerous things like 360 turns, hanging out the car, or driving a Pinto. Front wheel drive entrants will be allowed, but will be forced to drive backwards. The People's Curse car will receive much worse treatment than crushing or burning, rather it will be equipped with a stereo that only plays Eurobeat from Initial D. And anyone that says "S13", "S14", "S15", "AE86", or "R32" will be asked to leave because cars have names and only douchebag ricers refer to cars by production codes.


    So, who else thinks that sounds like fun?

    I foresee a trend in which the carpocalypse and financiapocalypse lead to people being unable to afford proper cars. $500 racing should take off. Formula $500, W$500RC, and Moto$500GP, anyone?


    And we all shall worship at the altar of Murilee before each race and pray for the safety of the contestants and the richness of the bribes for the judges.

    Ugh! This is why I have stopped watching drifting. It is becoming the same as NASCAR. How in the hell is someone with a "normal" car even supposed to compete with nonsense like this? It has completely gotten away from the grassroots part of drifting, which is drifting a car that can actually be driven legally on the street. This is nothing but a NASCAR Camry with a shortened wheelbase and a TC body. Ridiculous.

    My wife had one for a couple years (she got the 5 speed, I was so proud). It was a fun little car, sort-of sporty, well appointed with no options, and you really couldn't beat the price. Still, I guess it's a girl car.

    So, Formula D is going the same direction as NASCAR. Start off with off-the-showroom-floor cars, make a few mods, and go race. Move on to purpose-built cars that still maintain some relation to the stock car they are based on. Then finally wind up with spec cars, whiny drivers, and without a tenable link to anything remotely like what you used to be.

    I don't see any appeal in the tC. Its not fast, its not frugal, its very feminine looking. Its a well appointed cabin, yes, but what else is there?

    I've gotten 33mpg Hwy.


    The hatch makes it surprising practical.


    Styling is a matter of taste, but I think is looks good.


    It is an excellent combination of performance, economy, and practicality.

    I stand by my question of economy as well, it only has a 2.4 l I4 and yet its rated at 29 mpg highway. My Accord has the same amount of displacement, and a few more horses and is rated at 34 mpg. I just don't get that.


    I'll give you the hatch and the looks. Sometimes I see it at stoplights and really appreciate it. But I just can't get past the engine of it to really like it. I hear the steering's bang on though.

    You will also notice that the two cars with a faster 0-60 time are $1000 and $2000 more and only .1 and .2 seconds faster to 60.


    More importantly the tC had the quickest 1/4 mile.

    @wrx-TyrannosaurusWrx: That's b/c the tC motor is the same as the base motor on a Camry, which hasn't been toyed with for years. The upside is that you should get *lots* of worry-free miles on an unstressed Toyota 4-banger.


    I look at the tC as a far more interesting option than a Corolla, and a far better drive. It's too bad Toyota's aftermarket supercharger absolutely kills the fuel economy.

    @Baron Plushroom von Falconpunchen: I'd say good on both accounts, and that included input from friends I have allowed to hoon it. In the interest of full disclosure I do have a front strut tower brace, TRD rear sway bar, TRD springs, and 18" OZ Ultraleggera wheels. So the suspension is not quite stock.

    @wookie1901: Naw, you're definitely right on that. I worked at a Toyota dealership for a few months and I drove quite a few tCs for very short periods of time. Still, I think a Prius with a sport suspension would be hilarious, and probably necessary when I do the engine addition.

    Holy crap. You can actually buy the NASCAR pushrod, 4bbl, V8 that Toyota makes? This might be the coolest Toyota I've seen in a long time, and is making me ponder other excellent RWD Toyota ideas. I wonder what the prices is on one of those engines...
