You know what they should do...they should put the turbine in a little duct, and then route their exhaust pipe up there to blow across it so it's dependent on engine speed instead of car speed. hey....wait.... #supercharger
I'd say it could use some more, and more substantial, anchorings - especially back up to the rear of the roof from that center post. That electric motor is a substantial lump waving around up there.
And there's no way in hell that thing would make more power than it absorbs. But it is the most super excellent way to bring green tech to car racing. Maybe if it was a lot bigger? #supercharger
Some team at LeMons South had a wind turbine on the back of their car, it actually spun on the test laps but they made them secure it to not spin during the race. Something tells me, this contraption will befall the same fate.
Also, the parasitic drag losses will surely cancel out the 1 psi of boost it manages to wheeze out at 65 mph.
But who cares, it does look menacing, and slightly phallic. #supercharger
It's perfectly safe. There's at least one machine screw for each blade and the entire assembly is braced to the plastic spoiler with a tube made of what appears to be copper, which has the highest elastic modulus known. #supercharger
Quality, I think I may have come up with something similar whilst daydreaming at college one day...
Another one was a baffled fuel tank with moving baffles. Each baffle is connected to some sort of energy conversion device so that when the fuel moves around inside the tank it in turn moves the baffles and converts the kinetic energy of the fuel into electricity...
