    The cars's metal bodywork should act as a Faraday cage, safely conducting the lightning to the ground around you-that is if you're not touching anything inside the car.

    when I was driving from Georgia to Arizona the water the water pump went out in our 1991 MPV,the desert and my dad put the heat on and kept it running long enough to get to the Mazda dealer in New Mexico. Well that's how I remember it anyways, I was like 7 at the time.

    @Unregular: If it's found to be true, it's not a myth. Therefore, all the myths in a particular set of evaluations get debunked. The others are truths, and therefore just get, um... "bunked."

    The increased drag of open windows goes up exponentially, but the increased power requirements of running the AC compressor at faster speeds goes up linearly. That's why it's better to open the windows at lower speeds, and turn on the AC at higher steady-state cruising speeds.

    I'm with them on everything but on number 5. Not because I necessarily disagree, but because their logic is flawed.


    While a Prius will see a proportionately larger shift in aerodynamic drag than will a large SUV, the absolute drag difference is what matters (how much the change more power does it take?), since the A/C compressor power usage is independent of vehicle size and weight. If A/C on and windows up is the best for highway cruising the Prius, it will be the same for the larger vehicle as well. Using their proportionality argument, it can be swung in the opposite direction since the A/C compressor will use proportionately less of the engine output in a large SUV.
