Your coverage of Rally America events just made Jalopnik that much cooler!! The time to post about Lake Superior took a while (event in Oct, posted in Jan) but Sno*Drift was immediate.
If you wanna see some proper old school rally cars v the newer cars get to the Forrest of Dean rally this weekend, it includes rally stages from the proper old RAC rally.
@layabout now with V8 power: How old school is old school? I love old British rally cars, but a '70s Ford Escort is less likely to keep my attention than, say, a '58 Sunbeam Rapier.
@Armand Bengle: You may be let down then :( Some old cars from the 60's & 70's, plenty of old Minis,Saabs,Lotus Sunbeams,mk1 & 2 Escorts, right through the 80's & 90's. The odd 6R4 has entered in the past. Still a good & free day out with the smell of oil in the air & the sound of popping & crackling rally cars.
@layabout now with V8 power: If I lived in Britain, I'd definitely go. In my Sunbeam. As it stands, however, I'll have to be content with that video of the '58 Coupe des Alpes that we got to see a while ago: [jalopnik.com]
I still find it mind-boggling that Europeans get to see rally cars (of any age) in action on a regular basis. For FREE, no less!
I saw you guys driving the truck to the gravel pit on Saturday. I was in one of the sweep Jeeps. Also took a closer look at the propane F-150 at the Saturday afternoon service stop. Thanks for the rally coverage!
I saw your Ford Propane truck up there @ the Hungry 5 spectator area! Looked around didn't see any recognizible Jalopnik faces. Crazy amount of cars for the folks there...
I think my friends and I set a new record for seeing stages as a non-competitor nor non-sweep/opening car.
Due to the awesome planning skills of YFDS brother George, we saw *9* of 20 stages this weekend as spectator...'effing unbelievable! Great rally weekend!
(We were, when a stage car was coming, the jokers yelling "BLAKE!!" who would answer with his unimitatable "CAR!!!"...and dragging a tobaggan and body tubing-style behind a purple clown Caravan)
@Kelly the Mercedes killer: Indeed--I lost a bigger chunk in the same place off my car and ran it that way for a year--really butched up the old Camry.
Awesome- Mirra rocking the rally STi. He's gonna' be pumping the pedals wanting to execute a Rockwalk when he'll find that the car won't do a LardYard and will only Tailwhip, which will make him say "bogus".
Team O'Neill is a rally school. Winning a rally school's rally is a good thing. I'm glad he's doing it. Head's up, here comes the nay-saying...
I like Dave Mirra. He's a good guy. But I'm not impressed until I see a list of his competition whom were driving similarly tuned cars or he does it in a beater beetle. Hats off if he restores a Lancia Delta Integrale.
@dablackitalian: Little heart clicky for you! Thanks for sharing. I must have a Delta Integrale. A guy in my parents' town has a red one that I see from time to time. Wonder how hard it would be to import into WA state?
Slightly off track, but my god, what is the margin in these energy drinks that enambles them to sponsor everything in motorsport?
Between Monster and Red Bull I think just about everything that races with an engine is covered. Don't get me wrong, I am happy that good talent gets a seat because of this, but they must cost cents per serve to make if they have this kind of sponsorship margin...

It seems to me like that flash opposite the camera may have been a wireless flash, but other than that I'm dumbfounded.

The flash opposite the car was just lucky timing with an ally of mine. We'll have plenty of more nightwork for you in a bit.

If my tenacity persists, we just might make every rally from here on out.

Kudos to you Mr. Wert.

Goddammit.

I want to race rally, just one, before I die.
...but knowing me, that would probably be the last thing I ever did before I died.

When Dave Mirra gets on his bike jumps a shark good things will happen to his career.
