Those men in the first picture look like GIANTS.

I saw one of these recently that had been driven to a car meet, and I'm fairly sure it would have been possible to mail it back to its origin in a UPS padded envelope. Probably quicker too. God, it was cool though. Nice owners as well, and incredibly ballsy to drive a car with a quarter inch of sheet metal between you and a front-end collision with a ten-ton semi. #subaru

    Whoa. Whoawhoawhoawhoawhoa.

Are you telling me that there are legal kei vans in the US right now? Is this the only model? Can someone point me to a list of road-legal kei vans? These things are my kryptonite and I need to know what to search for. There are guys who import newer Japanese cast-offs, but they're not eligible to be registered.

    I need one. #subaru

@Smells_Homeless: My neighbor across the street had a Subie 360 sedan, and there's an old guy in town that has two LJ-10 Suzuki's that are beyond cool. You gotta' go old, though. Check out:

Suicide doors on a slow, FC van.

    That's like taunting death.

    I like it. #subaru

Delightful. Always appreciate a vehicle who's torque is greater than its horsepower.

I wonder if it could fit in the back of my van? #subaru

If you ever take a vacation to Catalina Island, off the coast of LA, you will see many of these old kei cars. The Island restricts most new vehicles, so a lot of older odd little cars are puttering around. I saw a bunch of Hi Jets and a few of these Subarus. Most of them are used by the few people who live there year round. Some are 4x4's as a lot of the dirt roads that ring the island get kinda muddy.

I was there is August and all my friends were wondering why I kept checking out all these tiny dirty old cars.

    They are not Jalops... #subaru

The 66mpg claim was made up by Malcolm Bricklin -- supposedly these realistically get 40ish.

...and this van is a little cutie. I once saw a picture of the pickup version hoisted into the bed of a full-size Ford truck. They're insanely small.

I dare anyone to not like a rear-engined, two stroke, suicide-doored, forward control kei van with an amusing slogan. It's very... Jalopnik. #subaru

I think I'd like to get one and paint it like the A-Team van*

I know the Mystery Machine would be more accurate, but I never really liked Scooby Doo.

Vehicles under 1000 ccs should be exempt from crash and emissions standards. Then, we could have these. You could buy a couple for your girlfriend's charm bracelet. Stocking stuffers. Buy instead of rent. #subaru

It may be rare, and it may be cute, but $6,000 seems a bit strong.

This 360 is a Red Ring of Death.

It's a Nice Price due to its condition and rarity, but only if you're a collector.

I just learned that these things have the cute nickname of "ladybug," which ALMOST makes me inclined to withdraw my crack pipe vote.

I actually kind of like this little larva of a car. It's cute as all get out, and I like anything two stroke. I even like Suzukis. But come on, there's no way I could see myself spending six grand on this. That's why I reluctantly voted crack. However, if you lived on the west coast where there are vintage Japanese car clubs and shows, you'd have kindred spirits to hang with. Then it might be worth it.

There is actually a guy down the street from my work that has one of these things. It's great to smell the 2 stroke laboring away.

There's one of these puttering around the back roads of southern Kansas; I flagged the driver down out of sheer curiosity. He said that it was the perfect car for getting him to the county seat without burning too much gas, and he loved the looks he got from colleagues in F-35,000s, terrified of hitting him. In the winter he said he switched it out for an old Legacy wagon. Truly a farmer after our own hearts.

6000 for a mint one? Seems like it's worth at least that much in bar stories.
