Since it seems to be the fad of the moment, I am also planning to build the world's fastest EV. I am at least as likely to succeed as all those other guys, even if I don't lift a finger. I can guarantee my methods will be much more efficient.
Unlike a lot of the other players, SSC built their car, tested it (the gas one) and then bragged about how fast it was. I'd like to see more of that.
Rumor is SSC was running into the same problems with physics that have been pointed out here. However, yesterday at noon everything changed and they were able to figure it out.
It would be nice if they told is what sort of nanotechnology is involved. Carbon nanotubes? If they have succeeded in building a viable nanostructured amorphous silicon electrode I'll be very impressed.
agree with maximum-sienna. there is a math problem there, just a simple matter of watts vs amps vs volts. no possible way that the batteries capable of delivering the watts necessary to create 250HP alone from a 110 volt line in 10 minutes.
1 HP = 745.699872 watts. 250 HP = 186250 watts. That is 180 Kilowatts of power. so the battery would need to be able to generate 180 kilowatts of power. i don't think so.
Oh, and no "standard" 110v outlet will charge a battery that size in 10min. That 15amp breaker will open faster than your wife using a hair dryer and a vacuum cleaner at once.
@maximum-sienna: The negativity will continue until morale i...: I'm no electrical engineer (I'm mechanical), but you're right. And if you could pull that amount of power in that short of time, your local power company may make you phone ahead before you plug in your car charger so they can kick up their reactor.
If FromaBuick6 has to watch one more Chevy commercial, he's going to punch Howie Long in the face was starred

So this will be a cheap, fast, long range and fast to charge all electric car? Santa Clause stayed longer arround before leaving to the North Pole this year?

They say it can deliver 1200hp, but they don't claim the 200 mile range at that output.
