Vanishing Point Dodge Challenger Wrecked On One Lap Of America

So remember the "Vanishing Point" Dodge Challenger we showed you Friday? Yeah, that one — the white Challenger piloted by former SCCA super-stud and now Chrysler car-macher Erich "Hair Helmet" Heuschele, with Ralph "Rambo" Gilles as navigator. It seems the "V.P." Challenger had a wee bit of trouble at turn one of Road America. Absolutely unbelievable — who knew they'd try to re-enact the last scene of the movie so accurately. Well, except for that whole cleaving 'tween two majorly gigantic metal monstrosities at the end of the freeway. One more shot below the jump. Although our hearts go out to these two costume-bedecked Chrysler men, you really should check out the full story from our good friends at CarDomain, click here. More »

2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8, Reviewed

While Dodge won't even return our phone calls (something to do with this as well as insinuating Bob "The Builder" Nardelli tried to change the name of Home Depot to Home Despot), our friends at the magazine that finds being Popular just as important as being Mechanics did get a chance to drive the Ram-headed brand's new muscular pony car — the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8. The gist of what they had to say, below the jump:

New Screenshots Appear of Midnight Club: Los Angeles

We heard about the release date yesterday, but today we've stumbled upon some of the screenshots from the latest addition to the Midnight Club series. These screenshots feature the likes of the Nissan R34 Skyline GT-R, Saleen S302 Extreme and S7, Dodge Challenger SRT8, 2010 Chevy Camaro and a 2008 Cadillac CTS even appears blurry in the background. Wow, that's quite the repertoire of drivable vehicles in the open-world racing game.

2009 Dodge Challenger SRT-8 Six Speed Caught On Cobo Roof

Amusing, it's taken a little over two years but the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT-8 has gone from a concept revealed on the show floor of the 2006 Detroit Auto Show to parking on the roof of Cobo during the 2008 SAE World Congress. This shiny red one was parked staring straight at the GM RenCen buildings almost like some bruiser looking for a fight with a Camaro. This one even has a little battle scar on the front passenger side fender to prove it can hang with the tough kids.

Dodge Live Unveil Of 2009 Challenger Lineup: Deja Vu Anyone?

Anybody else having a strange feeling of deja vu? You should because it was only a month ago that we watched Dodge unveil the 2008 Dodge Challenger and a month later they are back, unveiling the three different Challenger models for 2009. Included is the Dodge Challenger SRT8, the Challenger SE and the Challenger R/T.

Dodge Nitro SRT8?!

Chrysler can't seriously be thinking of bringing an SRT8-badged Dodge Nitro to market, can they? Well, if this latest batch of spy photos from the spy shooters at KGP are right, then they are. But they can't be! Seriously. It's inconceivable. We don't care where they found this manufacturer-plated madness (right outside of the Firehouse in downtown Detroit) or what it has slapped on the back (an SRT8 badge), but it's hard to argue with photographic evidence. We'll assume it's an engineer having a little bit of fun or perhaps another media outlet playing around with the cameras. Because seriously — it's got to be that. The other option? It's just too horrible to imagine. Full spy report from KGP after the jump.

2009 Dodge Challenger Production Details Emerge, You Want A Shaker Hood With That?

It's been almost a full day since we've posted on the 2009 Dodge Challenger, so we assume all of you are getting the shakes. According to our tipster, orders for the new Challenger can be placed starting next month (that's April) with a total of 45,000 initially built. This same source also claims that there will be a total of 40,000 rt/sxt models and 5,000 SRT8's built. Interestingly, the Challenger RT is supposed to get all of the color options and a shaker hood for those that want a classic RT look.

The Teutuls Like The New Challenger, A Bag Full Of Money Or Possibly Both

Paul, Sr. and Paul, Jr., Teutul, of Orange County Choppers and American Chopper fame, were around to introduce the new Challenger. As far as celeb/car introduction pairings go, this one was mostly inoffensive and made some sort of sense as this car will be popular with those buying a third car as a way to blow some disposable income, which are the same people that buy custom bikes. Unfortunately, it lacked the uncomfortable sexuality of old people and Amerigasm potential of previous introductions.

Commenter of the Day: Orange Crush Edition

Sure, we thought about foraging the assorted trashy declarations that followed our Dancing Traffic Girl Hoon of the Day post. We think she'd do pretty well on a USO tour of war-torn regions, and there's a taste of the dragon in there someplace. But not today. After all, we're working a car show. Let's maintain focus. Commenter of the day, then, please? More »

Chicago Auto Show: 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 Live And In The Shiny Orange Flesh

What better way to kick off the sales of your new muscle car, the last relevant piece of new product you're going to introduce for a while, than to invite a couple of guys who are best known for selling motorcycles. Paul, Sr. and Paul, Jr. of American Chopper fame were on hand to show off the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8. And what did we learn that you may not have learned from any of the sixteen or seventeen Challenger posts that already ran today? Dodge was smart enough to low-ball the 0-60 mph in the initial press release, as the actual car gets a more respectable 0-60 time of 4.9 seconds with a top speed of 170 mph and a quarter-mile in the 13's. There is also video of it jumping, as seen in this image of questionable authenticity, but it only goes about 8 inches off the ground. Press release below the jump — in case you missed it the last time.

Chicago Auto Show: First Live Shots Of 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8

Given how bad the photoshopping was of the original 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8, we thought you'd like some live shots. And while those shots weren't supposed to go up for another few hours, our intrepid photographer managed to catch one de-robed, as it were, during a rehearsal for the big reveal.

Chicago Auto Show: Chrysler PR Team Learns Photoshop, Makes Challenger Fly

Employing the same skill as a 12-year-old grafting his head on Eli Manning's body, Chrysler's media team made the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 fly. There are so many problems with this 6th grade photochop that it would occupy us for the rest of the day trying to make fun of them and we couldn't bring you live pictures of the Ford Transit Connect. We've numbered the seven most obvious errors, bad clones and just outright injustices. You identify them and hopefully add some more. UPDATE: While we don't mean to imply the Challenger's not jumping through the air with the greatest of ease — the p-shop-job done to the car we think would make anyone doubt the veracity. But Chyrsler PR claims it happened and we'll even see video to prove it in a short while. [Source: Chrysler]

2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8: Revealed, Officially!

UPDATE:We've got all the pictures now added of the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 live reveal in Chicago! Viva la revolution! After years of looking at spy photos, renderings and concept versions &mdash the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 is here, for real. Powered by the 6.1-liter HEMI V8, this HEMI orange muscle car puts out 425 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque. for a total of 69.8 horsepower per liter. How fast is it? Good question. The performance "targets" were a 0-60 mph time in the low fives, a quarter-mile in less than 14 seconds, at least 0.88 g's on the skidpad and a 60-0 mph stopping time of about 110 feet. However, you — like us — are waiting to see the actual performance numbers to see how close they got to the targets. To make the SRT8 trackworthy, engineers employed a multilink short and long arm suspension up front. In the back, the Challenger sports a five-link independent suspension with multiple bushings, allowing it to be tuned for ride or comfort. It's your choice of tires on the forged aluminum 20-inch wheels that will be keeping the 4,140-lb monster on the track. Keeping the Challenger out of the ditch is the job of the red, four-piston Brembo calipers. Drivers of the first batch of SRT8's will be controlling that power with a five-speed AutoStick, which might make some a little unhappy. More details should emerge Wednesday morning. In the meantime, there is a full press release and tons of photos in the gallery below the jump.

2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 Official Interior Photos Sneak Into Exclusive Club Called The Internet

A reader at the Allpar forums has gotten his hands on three interior shots of the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 that look to be official. We're supposed to see the new Challenger later this week, so this is a bit of an embargo break. From what we can see it looks to be a mixture of modern needs, automatic transmissions and a gigantic muscle car steering wheel we've been expecting. Oh, and seats with SRT8 logos! Look for many more official photos at the official release date sometime this week.

2008 Dodge Challenger Makes A Cameo In New Chrysler Ad... Sort Of

The animated "A New Day" spot is out from Chrysler, and while the commercial isn't about a homicidal pre-teen henchman (though we weren't that far off), there is a cameo by the 2008 Dodge Challenger. We don't exactly need to go into the details of how this version doesn't match up with the production version so we'll just say there are a few differences. Make sure to pay extra attention at the end or you might just miss the appearance.

Watch The Enthralling Dodge Challenger Display Setup In Real Time Via Chicago Auto Show Webcam

There are those who might think having webcams at the setup of an event like the Chicago Auto Show, which banks on being able to reveal the latest products, might be a bad idea. For obvious reasons, we're not those people. In fact, we've been keeping our eye on the proceedings since the cams went up in the hope of spying something we weren't meant to see. So far the most exciting thing we've seen is them setting up the display for the 2008 Dodge Challenger.

2008 Dodge Challengers Hanging Out At Roush With All The Cool Kids

A reader over at CarScoop managed to catch a pair of production-looking 2008 Dodge Challenger muscle cars hanging out at Roush, tuner of most things Ford. There are a couple of interesting things going on here. First, there don't appear to be any racing stripes, which could lead you to think these aren't SRT8's, though we think they are. Second, they're hanging out in front of Roush.
