The end of the F-22 programme is going to seriously come back and bite the senators when their country's entire airforce is defeated by these jets-in-disguise.
I'm suprised to find that I do like the look of this particular Spyker... normally Spykers look too much like the upscale equivalent of plastic chrome stick on bits from Walmart to a civic coupe. Both look better without the bits that make them look like the owner is trying too hard.
I get it that Spyker used to build aircraft and their designs are supposed to give a nod to that heritage. That's nice and all, but with the exeptions of something like a Caparo or even McLaren F1, the layout of these cars are always side-by-side. This then puts the driver into a seating position more analogous with aircraft like a EA-6B Prowler or Hawker Hunter. Sure, both are cooler than anything I've got, but if I'm dropping big bank on a car that emulates aircraft... give me something that draws comparisons to the F-22 or F-35...
And Spyker, if you're going to have gun-port intakes on the sides of your cars... put some guns in there.
When I saw this thing at the Chicago auto show (the hardtop one that is) I was just smitten with the interior ... a bit of a bright orange for my taste, it was finished off with circular-polished aluminum, chrome and the right amount of matte materials to the point where I couldn't hate it if I tried.
Not to mention, the exterior is one of the more classically attractive sport car bodies available today, in my book.
@Turbineguy: You say that coz you never went to Exeter or some shit and never got a well-connected job in finance and therefore will never be able to afford this car.
@CadillacCimarronOwnersClub: No, I say that because any car with a near 200k price tag should be well over 500hp. 400hp just doesn't cut it at that price point.
@Turbineguy: You don't think like a typical rich guy - the kind of guy who wuld pay that amount for a beautiful, fast car that "nobody else" has. When you're pulling one of these into a parking lot where people are used to seeing Lambos and Ferarris, which one do you think people are going to have questions about? Those precious few moments of shadenfreud as they watch ther jealous coworkers - with their more expensive cars - stew in the intense discomfort only known by eogmaniacs who are being ignored.
@Turbineguy: You're forgetting the whole point young padawan. It's not to cater to the "real" enthusiasts (mostly), it's a whole different demographic. Obviously you don't read Latin. Says a lot.
@Turbineguy: Power is unimportant. You've got more than enough to lose your license and Spykers aren't about going faster than a Ferrari. It's about going fast-ish but going fast-ish very stylishly. And awesomely.
That's a great motto for an aspirational car company. With the convertible top down, your dreams can soar to the heavens, as the soothsayers say was destined. And you might even score some babes, if you can avoid talking about your work to the point where they realize that you crush people's souls for a living.
You know, every year I go to the car show, and sit in the Spykers and talk to the Spyker people, and they say "Oh yes, we're building them, we've already sold out the run of 7 for this one, and 5 of the really exclusive model over there."
And yet, I've only ever seen one actually driving on the street. And it's not as though I never get out of the house, lord knows it isn't that. I don't know where these are all going, maybe I need to move to Dubai?
@sos10: There is a dealership near to where i live,on one side of the road they have Aston's & Rollers,on the otherside they have a Spyker & Koenigsegg dealership. Over the last year or so i've seen around 5 or 6 privately owned examples around Cheltenham.
@sos10: Actually they build 22 cars in the first 6 months of 2008. They sold 26 cars in that same period... but this includes, "sales" to dealerships, not to clients directly.
Up to now, they lost around 67 million euro this year, that is after selling their F1 team (although not 100% sure) to Orange India.
@sos10: 2 C8 Spyders Currently on the bay (Ebay that is) there is one in La Jolla, California and one in Houston for sale. One begining at 140K, the other for a BIN of 179K. Each have >200 miles.
Also, "Made in Germany, those guys make the best stuff!" WTF? You cant just make stupid generalizations like that! And what about all those things the German's made that weren't so great- like the Hindenburg for example.
pssh... skpker owners would never shamwow their own motorcars, you the jalopnik reader will be given a shamwow as part of the next federal check giving holiday. so that you may have the job security in the field of boulevard windshield wiping technician.

However, 400 bhp, chintzy wheels and that God awful text ruin it.

Still, this would be the best for cruising Miami and then rocketing off to...somewhere else. Those intakes are amazing.

Burgundy it was, and fast as the wind. I thought it was only the stuff of fables, until I saw it with my own eyes.
Aye, and then in a flash it was gone returned to the place of myth and legends. And that's my tale of the spyker that got away.
