2010 Audi R8 Spyder Speculatively Drops Its Rendered Top

Given the R8's brother-from-another-mother, the Lamborghini Gallardo, has been in drop-top form since 2006 it should come as no surprise we'd be seeing an Audi R8 Spyder at some point. Contrary to earlier reports, the R8 will not be a targa with a lift-off roof, but a genuine soft top convertible utilizing a similar, if not the same, stowage and roof design as the Gallardo Spyder. Hit the jump for our rendering of what the new 2010 Audi R8 Spyder may look like. More »

Audi R8 Spyder Spotted With Top On, Yet Naked

Driving around without any camouflage, this Audi R8 Spyder has been spotted testing in Germany. Besides the soft top, the first thing you'll notice is the lack of the R8 coupe's trademark "sideblades." The side intake has instead been molded into a more traditional scoop. Hiding under the top, there's suspected to be more air intakes located behind the seats and the obligatory pair of roll-over bars. Breathing through those intakes will be either the standard 4.2-liter V8, or a 5.2-liter V10. This particular car is likely a V10 model, as evidenced by the rear diffuser and two-stake grilles shared with the V10 Coupe. We're assuming the menacing flat black paint won't be a factory option. New Porsche RS Spyder Race Engine Gets Direct Injection

Proving that road technology eventually filters down to race hardware, Porsche will be upgrading the 3.4L V8 present in its ALMS LMP2 class Porsche RS Spyder with direct injection. The technology was developed for the Porsche Cayenne and Porsche 911, and, given the performance advantages, engineers decided to back-hack it into the prototype V8. The old version of the engine turned out a stout 476 HP at 10,000 RPM along with 273 lb-ft at 7,500 rpm; the direct injection and obviously remapped fuel curve bump power to 503 HP at 10,000 RPM, and 284 lb-ft of torque at 8,500 rpm. This motor communes with hummingbirds.

"New Car Smell" Less Toxic, But The Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder Smells Funny For A Reason

A group that keeps tabs on toxic car chemicals has released a study showing that new cars are improving in terms of the amount of interior toxins they off-gas: What we euphemistically call "new car smell." General Motors, Mazda and Nissan showed the greatest improvements over the inaugural year of the survey, according to HealthyCar.com. The best performing vehicle this year was the Acura RDX, which scored a 0.6 on their incomprehensible 10-point scale. It wasn't all coming up roses, as there are still many vehicles emitting that oh-so-pleasing and apparently oh-so-toxic smell. More »

Jerk Pees On Ferrari, The Internet Erupts

So some drunk Canadian teenager peed on a Ferrari. Usually that wouldn't merit coverage — we're sure 90% of the world's Ferraris have been urinated on by inebriated teenagers at some point in time. But this one involved urination caught on video, posted on Flickr, then YouTube, and has received such an outrageous response on message boards like FerrariChat that local police have launched an investigation not only into the teen's actions, but also to protect him from what they see as a real chance of violent revenge from forum fan-boys. 2009 Maserati GranTurismo Spyder Caught With Breadvan Camo

This strange looking Maser may appear to be a coupe, but sources say this is actually the upcoming Maserati GranTurismo Spyder, or as some are calling it, the GT-C. Whatever they end up calling it, expect a power-folding drop-top when the convertible hits showrooms around March. Of course, all that fancy auto roof origami means extra weight, so the car will likely use the extra muscle of the GranTurismo S' 434 HP 4.7-liter V8. More »

Ironhide Spotted With Can-Am Spyder, Motorcycle

More details regarding everyone's favorite movie sequel trickle in by the day. We know that filming is set to begin next week in the Philadelphia area and Ironhide, better known as the GMC Topkick, was spotted en route to the location for filming. The interesting item to note is what was being hauled along with Ironhide. A motorcycle was spotted in the bed of the truck as well as a Can-Am Spyder being hauled alongside. We could get all excited speculating about whether the motorcycle and Can-Am Spyder are miniature Transformers, but they're probably just props or stunt vehicles for the less robotic stars of Transformers 2. Click through for more details about the first shoot next week.

Houston Stripper Steals Identity, Buys Cars

This little ray of sunshine is Stacy Marie Oberley, a 28-year-old stripper who lives in Houston. Normally a delicate flower such as this wouldn't merit scrutiny, but apparently Miss Stacy Marie has been a bad girl. Not only is she on probation for narcotics trafficking, but she has stolen the identity of an autistic woman and used it to buy luxury cars. Dainty. According to police, she used the Social Security number to purchase a Maserati CoupĂ© and some form of 2006 BMW. While police have recovered the Maserati, they have yet to find either the BMW or Miss Oberley, but we're sure they have a couple ideas on where she might be. More »

Porsche Reveals Cool Boxster, Also Shows Other Cars

We went to the Porsche event with high hopes of amazing unveils for the never before seen Porsche Boxster RS60 Spyder, Porsche RS Spyder, Porsche Cayenne GTS and Porsche 911 GT2. Imagine our disappointment when we got there and realized we've seen them all before, unlike the Porsche press release had implied. About the most exciting part of the whole event was the Boxster ice sculpture, with Porschemisu. They did manage to redeem themselves by encouraging us to "Have a little taste of Porsche" with the little birthday cakes - it's Porsches 50th anniversary this year. We didn't taste the cakes, because we don't know what Porsche tastes like, though we assume concentrated Bruce tastes like oil, aluminum, und schteel.

Porsche Coming To New York, Bringing Three "World Premiere" Vehicles

Porsche just dropped a presser on us which has us scratching our heads. Any time we read words like "Porsche" and "First" and "Shown" in a press release, we expect the things contained therein to be, you know, Porsches being shown for the first time. In this case, that's maybe only partially true. In breathless verbiage, we're told all about the amazing new Porsche Cayenne GTS, Porsche 911 GT2, Porsche Boxster RS60 Spyder and the racing Porsche RS Spyder. Problem is we've already seen the Porsche Cayenne GTS and the Porsche 911 GT2 in the flesh, the Porsche Boxster RS60 Spyder has been both on the web and boring for nigh on three and a half months. And it would be a shock if the Porsche RS Spyder which has already won more races than we care to count wasn't pretty well known. So at the end of the day, we're really confused on exactly what it is we're supposed to be excited about here. But — the press release in all of it's breathlessness is below the jump. More »

2008 Can-Am Spyder Now Available in Red

Love it or hate it, the 2008 Can-Am Spyder is now going to be available in red. The backwards trike will be offered with the color beginning two days ago in addition to silver and yellow. We have to say we rather like the new color on the motor vehicle which defies naming. The new color is nice and all, but we'd much rather see a less aggressive tractions control nanny and a more wallet friendly price, but we suspect those are both wishful thinking. Chicago Auto Show: 2009 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Even though they already dropped the press shots of the 2009 Mitsubishi Eclipse and Spyder, the cars are making their official debut here at Chicago. Mitsubishi looked to borrow some mojo from past Eclipse models as they included previous versions in their display. The upgrades to the new version are largely cosmetic, thought they did see fit squeeze an additional two ponies out the power plant. Included in the deal are"Jet fighter grill", added traction control, new 18" wheels, dual outlet exhaust, Spyder gets standard heated seats, yada, yada, yada. Hey look, pictures.

2009 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT, Spyder Unveiled Before Chicago Auto Show

The cover has been removed from the face-lifted 2009 Mitsubishi Eclipse and the first thing you'll notice is the big Evo-inspired nose. On the GT you'll notice a new dual exhaust system which helps bump output of the 3.8L V6 a mind-blowing 2hp to the magical figure of 265hp. All those new ponies need to be reigned in some how, so Mitsu decided to give us some bigger rear brakes. While you're back there admiring the new pipes, take a peek at the new diffuser-style rear fascia too.

Porsche Boxster RS 60 Spyder Limited Edition

The kiddos from Stuttgart have something special in mind for the Bologna Auto Show. Unlike some automakers we could think of, Porsche doesn't come out with special editions every other day so it's kind of special when they do. Inspired by Porsche's victory at the 1960 12 Hours of Sebring, the Boxster RS 60 Spyder Limited Edition pays homage to the winning Type 718 RS in a number of ways. The Silver Metallic paint and Carrera Red interior is your most obvious hint, unless you're sitting in the passenger seat and you notice the plaque on the dash. You might also notice the 19-inch SportDesign alloy wheels and a unique front spoiler. Internally, the modified Boxster gets a new exhaust with unique dual tailpipes that boost the output of the flat-six to 303 horsepower. Porsche's Active Suspension Management is included and will help you fling all that extra style around the track (or country club). Fittingly, just 1,960 of these cars will be available at a price of around $78,000. Press release after the jump.

LA Auto Show: Spykers

You know what's hard? Having just one favorite supercar maker. Go ahead, say Ferrari and I'll park my Murcielago next to your 599 GTB, making the latter look like nothing but a shiny red Corvette with yellow horse stickers pasted all over it. Luckily we write about cars for a living, guaranteeing that not only will we soon be able to afford all the hot Italian metal we want, but our yacht will totally be able to handle a helicopter. Wow. We just went insane for a full minute. Well, a little mental slippage is to be expected. Seriously, you try hanging around this many Spykers and not getting your mind blown just a teensy bit. Surprisingly, we liked the relatively sorta sane C8 Spyder more than the howlin' at the moon C12 Zagato. But again, making rational decisions in this lofty realm is the stuff rich people have to worry about. We will say that the Aston Martins parked next door to Spykerland were absolutely invisible by comparison. A curiosity follows should you choose to jump.

The Penske Porsches Are Coming! The Penske Porsches Are Coming!

The Corvettes aren't the only ones heading out the paddock. With the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix ALMS race just 45 minutes away, the Penske Racing Porsche RS Spyders have up, revved and run their 480 horsepower engines out of the paddock just the same as their yellow brethren. These are the same Penske Porsches that seem to be running rather well this morning during the practice sessions.
