It's a shame about the timing of this one, because I like the Toyota brand, and would love to own an MR2, but instead, I looked at Subaru and Mazda, and ultimately chose Hyundai (well, we'll see once they have a supply to try out - they keep selling out...) or if that falls through, Mitsubishi for my sports car needs.
I'd have loved a modern spiritual successor to the AE86... hopefully the GenCoupe will fill that niche well enough and then some.
"Toyota planned to develop an affordable, fun-to-drive sports car in the next few years but did not elaborate. "
As opposed to somewhat expensive, boring, family cars???? What's he implying???
Toyo builds all kinds of fun to drive cars, wait....... Nevermind!
Hm. Not the most flattering pic of Toyoda-san. It looks as though he's off his tits in a karaoke bar somewhere trying to make out the lyrics to "Private Eyes".

@tempesjo: Ah. I was looking for that but the comment page navigation for that post is broken. I used the comment link and found it.
I can't wait for the next Wes list...
@mr_dude: It's like tryouts for Verbal Kint in the Kevin Spacey's stage adaptation of "The Usual Suspects"
Kevin Spacey sidebar to director: "can we use a Japanese guy for this part? I think we can, might help us reach a wider audience. OKAY, Please continue."

Anyway, I think cars are much cooler when you own them: you can only rightfully show off what you've earned. Sure buying is a lot more expensive: depreciation, insurance, tax etc. but the whole idea of owning a supercar is to show off that you can afford it all!
@Dhillaz: Sometimes it's not about showing off. I'd be willing to bet with most Jalops that it's all about the experience. Everyone deserves to experience an exotic car at least once in their lifetime, even if they can't afford to own one.

I'm disappointed by how the future tense is used. If they're planning to develop it, we've got a few years to wait.
On the plus side, I woke up to find a star on my name. Yays!
He only got the job because of his name.
Edit: Added line breaks.

Congratulations on your star, Mister Mr. mr_dude. (Did I get your name right? I believe that's how you told me to do it.

It does have a lot of power for a mid-sentence candid. Weird.
