Does anyone else remember how gorgeous the Boxster concept was? I think Porsche's stylists committed mass suicide when the production model appeared (which would explain a lot).

@jark: I don't understand how they built so much sterility into the production model. There's no doubt the Boxster drives wonderfully but it is die-cast from a big bucket of the purest blanditude.

To be clear, these pictures show the regular Boxster windshield and fascia, correct?

Also, as automotive enthusiasm is overwhelmingly male-dominated, can we get a more manly word to use than "fascia"? I feel like Krewson and his lumberjack beard could put some time in on this.

A red lightning, potent, flashes past,
Two watchful eyes, menacing, stares fast.
    Three spoked-wheel held steadfast,
Four wheels and no roof, a modern recast.

    Ellipses, circles, curves all abound,
Engine's roar projects fear all around.
No silicon chips to strain the beast,
    One-seven-five on roads not policed.

One part excitement, one part art,
Pure driving pleasure, served a la carte.
"The most beautiful car ever made",
    Enzo remarked, petrolheads swayed.

    The Jaguar E-type, O holy E-type,
No Jalop dare call it Crack Pipe.
See it for yourself on Fifty Third,
Its beauty surpasses all of my words.

Very nice, but it needs a grill and a front bumper. The opening looks weird the way it is, sorta goatse*-ish.

*If you don't know what goatse is, for the love of Xenu do NOT google it.

I like the whole modern design, blah blah blah, but I'd rather have the original. This is like those people who make "resto-mod" muscle cars and hot rods with power windows, leather interiors, and big chrome wheels. Old cars aren't meant to have those things; they're meant to look and feel old.

Another thing: it looks like they ditched the convertible top altogether and made it a roadster. While this may look nice, I would rather have a car that I can drive every day, rain or shine.
    /rant

On the other hand, a 300 hp hemi straight-six does sound nice. I'm under the impression though that if I have to ask, it's too expensive.

@discontinuuity: In essence, you want a car that is less reliable, less comfortable, more expensive (?), slower, and less luxurious.

    I completely understand.

    @discontinuuity:
I largely agree. Fantastic automobile, to be sure. Yet, ultimately, they took a car whose quirks factored greatly into its appeal and in their place fashioned, what can I can only imagine is, psychotically expensive sleekness. I'll set aside my annoyance that the photos are accompanied by a description that includes the word "luxury" and state: "Wonderful car, but give me an original." And as far as price (as mentioned by Mobius); I could trade in my new Mazda3 for an original, this one .... well, good bye early retirement or hello second mortgage.
However, count me in if they they create a more authentic front end ... perhaps the orignal chrome bumpers would do the trick.

@wjfreemont: I think an original E-Type in good condition runs about $65,000. This is probably quite a bit more. I'm sorry, but I don't think your Mazda is going to cover it.

@discontinuuity: If you scrounge around you can still find some coupes and, if in even worse condition, convertibles hovering around or below 30K. I see what you are saying though, having just looked around ... 60 - 100K for a restored car. But good god, a complete XKE restoration? There must be well over 100k in parts and labor in many of those.
