Well he tried it at 1:35am and I'm guessing passed a speed trap or a cop coming from the other direction. I'm really surprised they didn't arrest him for reckless driving, endangerment, or some other charge.
Typical young rich kid with a sense of immortality going for kicks on public roads. I really want to see the Judge's reaction to this one. I hope he gets Judge Judy!
OK, I have a problem with this ticket. You can be arrested for exceeding 100. 210 is JAILABLE.
I am NOT at all surprised that this occurred on the 73 tollroad in Orange County, what I'm surprised at is the fact that there were CHP on the 73 FWY at all. I've never seen a chippie on that particular stretch of road. Back in the day, I used to go out there at 2 or 3 am and do my "autobahn" runs since the freeway was dead empty. He obviously wasn't doing his speed run late enough at night.
@philibuster: Yes. I can probably manage 90 on the way to work in the morning (granted I leave at 4:30 am), and I usually average 65 going home at about 6:30-7:00 pm.
If you are a "Social Media Mogul" that recklessly breaks the law and posts the photgraphic evidence of same on the web, perhaps you should take the time smudge your address sufficiently to avoid jerks like me figuring out what street you live on. Dumbass!
You guys are forgetting that usually any speed over 100 mph is considered reckless driving and can get 90 days in jail and a $1000 fine. Oh and if you notice on the top of the ticket it is marked as a Misdemeanor.
23103. (a) A person who drives a vehicle upon a highway in willful or wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property is guilty of reckless driving.
(c) Persons convicted of the offense of reckless driving shall be punished by imprisonment in a county jail for not less than five days nor more than 90 days or by a fine of not less than one hundred forty-five dollars ($145) nor more than one thousand dollars ($1,000), or by both that fine and imprisonment, except as provided in Section 23104 or 23105.
@mytdawg: yeah. but he did get written up for a Misdemeanor instead of an infraction. And with the state's budget crisis, they may push for max fine and minimum jail sentence.
To start with, if he really was going that fast, he's an idiot for pulling over. He could have been off that toll road and off the freeway safe and sound before the CHP officer could have called for backup.
Also, I have never once seen a CHP officer on any of the toll roads around here. The only way this makes sense is if he didn't have an electronic toll pass, decided to blow through that lane anyway to skip the toll and traffic, and was unfortunate enough to get his license plate snapped by the cameras there, and get the ticket mailed to him later.
In any case, something tells me that this is a fake.
No matter which way you look at it, this guy's an idiot, and if the ticket is real, he deserved it.
Also, driving at speeds of over 100mph qualifies for reckless endangerment, which is a much more serious penalty.
@pauljones: I'm with you, I bet the guys dad or firnds dad is a cop and he snagged a page from his ticket book! There is no way any cop would have let that guy go after that sh*t.
@pauljones: Can't say that I have spent much time on Cali highways, but if that toll road is anything like the ones in Dallas there is absolutely no way in hell he was doing 210+ without some sort of wings. Btw, does social media "mogul" = trust fund d-bag?
@djthekidd: The term "media mogul" could mean any number of things. As far as speeding on CA toll roads, though, it's quite common. They aren't usually very heavily patrolled, and even when they are, the cops are usually less concerned with your outright speed than they are with your pattern of driving. I once passed a CHP car doing 80, and nothing happened, but I have seen them pull over countless people doing 70 while weaving in and out of lanes.
@pauljones: Must be nice. Here in the D/FW, my dad got pulled over the other day on one of the tollroads for doing 55 in a 60. And yeah I know it could mean any number of things, but Veyron + 23 years old + 210mph on the highway=......
@pauljones:My theory... Charity Event. Where they block off the road and set up the radar, run their cars as fast as possible, and make a donation based on their 'speeding ticket'.
That or some awesome cop wanted to see if his superiors were actually reading the tickets they were writing.
Somewhere in Europe, Prawo Jazdy just got a ticket.
@pauljones: I'm not saying it's real, but I can absolutely see why he pulled over. If the cop had a decent chance to make out the license plate (OK, not much window of opportunity at 210 mph), then I doubt he could escape consequences by simply not pulling over. If there are few enough silver Veyrons in California, it may've even been enough for the cop to see that it was a CA plate.
If you've got the money to buy a Veyron, you've got the money to pay just about any speeding ticket that might be coming your way. Why seek out the extra headache from not pulling over?
But yeah, all that aside, I would be completely unsurprised if it turns out to be fake.
@area_educator kids...: Not in California. It doesn't matter that it was an extremely rare silver Veyron (possibly the only one in the state) or that it had CA plates. Without the exact plate identification, nothing sticks.
@racin_g73: I believe the quote is "there's not a car in the world that can outrun the old motorola."
This is certainly true, but there are cars that can outrun the CHP. Assuming this is real, and the guy really was going 210mph, then there is no way that the CHP officer that first saw him caught up to him.
In order to catch him, the first CHP officer had to send a radio message in to control, which control relays to other cars that are in the area. Included in this message is information not only on the vehicle and speed, but also estimated direction, destination, etc.
Unless there was another CHP officer that coincidentally happened to be at the end of that toll road at just that moment, then he could very easily have slipped off the freeway out of sight, laid low for a while, and then went about his merry way.
While there is no car that can outrun the old motorola, there are a fair few that can outrun the reflexes of whomever is operating the motorola.
@pauljones: When you're driving a car that they know is faster than anything they've got, and you pull over, they're going to be very lenient, at least with what they do on the spot.
I got pulled out in the middle of nowhere at like 1 am, I was doing triple digits, over double the limit, but because I pulled right over when I saw the distant lights in my rear view rather than darting off onto the side roads where he wouldn't have had a chance of catching me, I got a ticket for 19 over ($120), instead of a reckless driving, 90 day license suspension, minimum $1,500 fine, and a night in jail.
@something_unique_and_descripti...: There's something to be said for manning up (or wo-manning it up, I don't know) to it. Fuck it you caught me. Heart click for that.
That's realllly fast. And dangerous. I would first punch him in the face, then kindly direct him to the nearest motor sports track/extended length runway.
And he's lucky he dosen't live in Finland, where a percentage of your income is taken away for tickets. Yeah Scandinavian Socialism!
It's not that they take a percentage of your income. Every fine, even a $10 one is taking a percentage of your income, albeit tiny. What they do is calculate your fine based on your income level. The more you earn the more you pay. And I think it's a good idea.
In some countries, like Portugal, if you get fined you have to pay the ticket on the spot. Needless to say it makes getting pulled over a huge inconvenience.
Wait a sec...Born in 1986.....I am a failure at life. I don't have a Veyron. All I have is a harem of hot supermodels and my 3.8 million square foot mansion.
Anyone know a place where I can pick up a slightly dinged up 200mph supercar? I feel the need to beat this guys ticket.

What!? The cop should have yanked his license right then and there! I don't know this seems fishy to me, just a Misdemeanor for eceeding the speed limit by over 145mph? What do you have to do, actually kill somebody?
The 73 usually has one cop with radar gun on northbound and one southbound, usually just south of the toll booths on a hill. And yes you can drive 210 on the 73 because its a toll road and usually wide open with 4 lanes each way.
Notice that his address is still visible in the ticket?
Here is a picture of the perp...err...accused.
@Slowlane: I find it hilarious that his Flickr photostream mostly consists of photos of himself. I suppose when you own a Veyron the hyperinflated ego comes standard.
