Combining the height of an SUV with the blandness of a Korean mid-size, it could even cure my insomnia.

The new Sorento will be the first vehicle equipped with Kia's exciting R-Diesel engine. Displacing a scintillating 2.2-liters and making a fiery 200 HP, the four banger delivers a positively overwhelming 33 MPG. For less frugally minded Korean crossover enthusiasts, there'll also be a 2.4-liter four-cylinder gas engine and the ubiquitous Hyundai/Kia 3.8-liter V6, although a 6-speed auto should ensure that you don't have too much fun.

Expect more earth shattering details from the official unveiling at next month's Seoul Auto Show. [via Kia World, Omnimoto, Autoblog]

<![CDATA[2010 Kia Sorento Sketches Revealed]]> Check out these official 2010 Kia Sorento sketches. Fascinating? Yeah, we're not overly impressed either. Not about the car per se, but teaser sketches in general.

We got to show you the Geneva Motor Show-bound Kia No 3 concept earlier this week, but that's not the only thing the South Koreans are letting out of the bag. These two teaser sketches of the 2010 Kia Sorento popped up on Kia-World late last night and they give us a pretty clear look at what's in store design wise for the upcoming small SUV.

Details on the upcoming SUV are scarce, but we do know that the next-gen Sorento will get slightly bigger overall due to a shared platform with the Hyundai Veracruz, making the SUV quieter, giving it a more compliant suspension and much better fuel economy. It's expected that the Sorento will carry on with the current model's 3.8 liter V6 and a collaborative effort with Hyundai will net a 3.0 liter diesel V6 with both engines swapping gears with a six-speed automatic transmission.

The 2010 Kia Sorento will make its official debut at the 2009 Seoul Auto Show in April and is expected to go on sale in the U.S. later this year.

(Hat Tip To Mike!)

<![CDATA[2010 Kia Sorento, Unmasked, Leaks Onto Web]]> It looks like AutoWeek.nl got their hands on some undercover shots of the 2010 Kia Sorento in a state of disrobement, making it the most recent of many new Kias spotted in similar states of nudity (joining the 2009 Kia Sportage, 2009 Kia Soul and 2009 Kia Forte). Full details on what to expect from the new Sorento below the jump.

The buzz is that this Sorento, slated to be built in Kia's Georgia plant, is going to ditch the old body-on-frame setup for a unibody platform also used by the Santa Fe. From the looks of it the new Sorento also goes further towards the crossover end of the spectrum, which seems like good timing given the planned introduction of the 7-passenger 2009 Kia Borrego. More information as it leaks out to the web. [AutoWeek.nl via The Car Blogger]

<![CDATA[Obama Likeness Selling Kia Sorentos, With Bonus MLK Pontiac Bonneville Pitch]]> Obama-mania is spreading like a virus into advertising as Comedy Central's "The Daily Show" found in this Dallas Area Kia dealer ad for the Sportage. Of course John Stewart ridicules the spot, which features not only a likeness of the Illinois Senator but a rip-off his "Yes we can!" catch phrase. If this is the kind of stuff we have to look forward to during the closing months of this agonizingly perpetual presidential election, we eagerly await the "Bob Barr 'No Federal Regulations' Killdozer" ads. As a bonus feature at the end of this clip, Stewart and the boys make sure to chop up the "I Have a Dream" speech to help sell 1964 Pontiac Bonnevilles, now with free Simonizing! Clip below the fold.

<![CDATA[Kia Bringing Mid-Size Pickup To U.S. Market By 2011]]> 2011-Kia-Pickup.jpgOur truck-loving friends at PickupTruck.com are telling us this morning Kia will be bringing a mid-size pickup to the U.S. market by 2011 and they've even put together a pretty little rendering of what they think it might look like. The unnamed new pickup is reportedly based on the next-generation, front-wheel-drive Sorento and will use the same unibody platform and V6 engine. There's even talk of offering an all-wheel drive version like the Honda Ridgeline. The truck will supposedly be built at Kia's soon-to-be-completed $1.2 billion assembly plant in West Point, Georgia, on the same line as the Sorento and a to-be-determined third vehicle. We're hoping it'll be a Kia-mino form factor — but we won't be holding our collective breath. [PickupTruck]

<![CDATA[2009 Kia Sorento?]]> Tom "DJFriar" Craft, an eagle-eyed Jalopnik reader and tipster, ran into what appears to be the next-gen Kia Sorento while in Orange County this week. Tom was on the way down the CA-22, just before Euclid — when he caught the egg-like covered shape heading down the highway beside him on his iPhone camera. The cladding looks like the kind of cladding we've seen on recent kim-chee flavored test vehicles we've seen around town and since he caught it just before he passed the Hyundai-Kia development center out there and since it looks vaguely like a Sorento, that's what we're gonna say it is. Also, we're really enjoying the level of camera shots we've been seeing lately coming from iPhone users — they provide just the right level of graininess to make the shots look so totally, umm, amateurtastic. So keep those car spy shots coming!

<![CDATA[Psychic Subtext Command]]> Directly north of the Grapevine the two paths of State 99 and Interstate 5 diverge. While we were supposed to head north on the 5, psychic power steered us towards the walmart in Bakersfield. The reason? We needed a 12v AC inverter so we could broadcast from the 58, heading west.

<![CDATA[Escape from LA: Gorman Edition]]> Johnson and Bumbeck have made out of the basin and are in Gorman - the gem of the Tehachapis. Here we have witnessed a forgotten limo, waving flags, french fries, salt, and a rolled Montero. The mystery bucket revealed itself in the form of a Kia Sorento, which is still rolling. <![CDATA[Kia Sorento Rocks!]]>

Hey guy, check out this totally cool Kia Sorento. Your math teacher will be so jealous when you roll up to soccer practice in one of these bitchez. (Maybe the coach will even let you play.)
