"However, no one saw the crash because no one watches open wheel racing and it isn't covered on TV. But the drivers are glad that five guys on Jalopnik.com wished them a speedy recovery."
First, our sympathies to the two drivers who, I am sure, are glad it wasn't a lot worse... it could have been.
I am old enough (61 years) to remember when any accident on the track was a probable fatality or serious injury. It was rare for a driver to survive a bad crash and if he did, it was usually with carrer-ending injuries.
So our hats are off to the designers and engineers who have worked diligently to make racing safer. It will never be perfect but there was a time when this kind of crash might have brought out the black ribbons.
@aSoundofSleep: Yeah, I actually really dig it. The song's popularity had me listening to it ironically at first, but after I'd say the fourth listen I was pointing my gun hand in the air...
A friend of mine and I listened through it for the first time simultaneously. We enjoyed it more than the Billy Ray Cyrus we ran with the next weekend (yes, we're a bit masochistic) but not by virtue of the music - no, there was just more to make fun of, while Cyrus was just sad.
@strllng plyr: It's the sort of song you either love or you hate. I love it, though I can't explain why, and I know that it's technically not very complex. But it doesn't matter. That shit is catchy.
M^2, my brother is working on whittling down the hours and hours of footage obtained at 24HoL South Spring '09, I'll keep you posted when that video is ready.
Incidentally, we brought our LeMons racer to our company's annual cruise-in yesterday, and it was pretty much the hit of the show, outshining the rows of perfectly polished Corvettes and Mustangs. And as a bonus we even got it running again long enough to make a very loud lap around the field and then throw a rod.
Even though I don't have sound at work, I was compelled to watch the entire thing. Best part was in the middle of that montage, around 1:30, there was the perfect shot of a PBR-totin' arm

/Will Powers Dad, Pure, speaking after the accident.
//jokes aside, hope they recover fast and back behind the wheel soon.

Also, it's a bit of a bummer after the headline made me expect a car with so much power, a good jab at the throttle might crush vertebra.

"Me."
"Ah, yeah."
"We're keepin' the hood, though."
Also: So glad to see "Paper Planes" being spread by someone other than myself. It's so wonderfully rubbish.
And of course Clapton is the only appropriate non-country music for driving a hilarious beater pickup to the races.

That whole cd actually isn't too bad. It's kind of a breath of fresh air, if you enjoy middle eastern techno pop.

I think I could do this LeMons thing, you know!
