Actually, you're going to take a ride on board a Ferrari 330 P4 through the eyes of a child, the way we best remember it. When we couldn't have it for real, we always resorted to the next best thing. Making zoom, vroom and wah wuuuuuuh! noises through our parent's house was that next best thing, but this clip shows that with a little improvisation, a lot of imagination, a nicely set up slot car track and a glorious 330 P4 soundtrack; you really can have whatever you dream.

What goes down when you put a bit too much wonga in the pockets of a couple of yobs and then let 'em loose? Why, they drop 10,000 quid on building the world's longest Scalectrix track at Dunsfold Airfield (is there a more famous 747 in the world besides Air Force One or Pan Am 103?) and invite the people from Guinness to officiate. The racing action isn't exactly heart-in-throat-inducing, but what we wouldn't give for that amount of track and a couple of scantily-clad corner marshals. The mind? It boggles. – Davey G. Johnson

Our parents sponsored our Tyco slot-car hobby when we were youngsters, but apparently Toyota's taking this, "We support cars that run on electricity" thing pretty seriously, having signed on to sponsor Slot Rally GB, a 1/32nd-scale-car rally that runs on a number of different surfaces, including loose ones. Featuring 20 stages, it's only six quid to enter a car, and we have to say, if we were in Blighty, we'd totally have a Jalopnik entry ready to go by the 23rd of September. Plus, it's for charity.

Some clever soul in New Zealand wired a 1:32 scale slot car with a video camera to record driver-view footage, thereby fulfilling the promise of our 1980 selves. Of course, we'd considered our dream ended after dad's steel-bodied Super 8 camera smashed one of our AFX car bodies into dust, killing the imaginary driver instantly. The video clip is more than 11MB, but the feelings of vertigo seemingly never end.
