Only 350 of the 2009 Mercedes SL65 AMG Black Series supercars will ever be made, but that hasn't stopped one from appearing at the Pebble Beach Concours. The $320,000 Benz has a staggering 661 HP, but that's topped by the 6.0-liter V12's 738 lb.-ft of torque.

<![CDATA[ Pagani Zonda And Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Palling Around ]]> Derek D and the boys at Fast Lane Daily have scored an interesting pic of the next-gen Pagani Zonda buddying up with the Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black for high-altitude testing in Colorado. This, of course, sets up rumors the new Zonda will have the same 6-liter V12 expected in the Blackest of SL's, instead of the anticipated V8. We're pretty sure nobody in the supercar world will complain about a frenetic 600 HP V12 making noise in the new Pagani. Check out the Fast Lane Daily video below the fold for details, and the shout-out to yesterday's shocking BMW F1 news.

<![CDATA[ New Mercedes SL65 AMG Black Series Dances Around Track On Video ]]> With twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 under the bonnet blasting out 661 HP and 738 lb-ft of torque, the newly-revealed 2009 Mercedes Benz SL65 Black, the pointy-star brand has really upped its game when it comes to tweaking out production platforms. In fact, as the video below the jump shows, watching it in action is nothing short of automotive pornography.

Now that is one spicy German monster of a meatball.

<![CDATA[ At 661 HP, The 2009 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Is A Very Magic Woman ]]> Mercedes has finally revealed the new 2009 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series. Based on the recently revised Benz SL65 AMG, the newly blackened version will now be Mercedes most powerful production car ever. With the finely tuned and double-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 under the hood, power is up to an astonishing 661 HP with torque remaining at the already staggering 738 lb-ft. Expected to be priced in the range of $320,000, the SL65 AMG Black Series hits the Benz lineup as an indirect replacement for the McLaren-built SLR coupe. Want one? They won't be easy to find.

That's because we're told to only expect a limited run of 350 over a 12-month period. Luckily, 200 of them are slotted to hit U.S. shores, so there's at least a shot of seeing one of these amazing monsters of Deutschland on the streets.

Jalopnik Snap Judgement: Although we totally dig the styling, and those horsepower numbers are through the roof, at that pricepoint, we'd rather wait for the 2011 Mercedes SLC gullwing supercar. Of course, if we had the money to play in this price range, we'd probably just buy 'em both. You know, to have one for the missus. [via Edmunds]

<![CDATA[ SL65 Black Series Spotted, Will Match SLR's Performance ]]> Autocar reports that the 2009 SL65 AMG Black Series will feature performance to rival the 206mph SLR, but will cost around $200,000 less. That means 0-60 in 3.8 seconds and a top speed in excess of 200mph from the twin turbo, 650bhp V12.

To achieve this level of performance, 300kg has been taken out of the SL's body, largely by replacing the folding hard top with a fixed carbon fiber roof. In fact, the only body panels shared with the standard model are the doors. This is made additionally necessary by the widened tracks front and rear.

The SL65 Black Series will make a track appearance at this year's Grand Prix of Germany in July, followed by an official unveiling towards the end of the year. [Via Autocar]

<![CDATA[ RENNtech Reveals 695 HP Monster Mercedes Tuning Package ]]> Not wanting to get left behind in a world of 500 horsepower Euro-bruisers, RENNtech announced today its new "stage 3" kit designed to squeeze an impressive 695 horsepower and 895 lb-ft of torque out of the twin-turbo AMG V12. The kit uses a revised ECU, revised cooling system and other goodies to get as much usable power out of the V12 as can be reasonably gotten. The addition for 65-series AMG's is $18,900 plus installation and is available on the S65, CL65 (pictured) and SL65 AMG. Full press release below the jump.

RENNtech PKG365

Lake Park, FL - 28JAN2008 - RENNtech PKG365

The last few years have seen a flood of 500 horsepower sedans almost
pouring out of Germany from BMW, Audi, and Mercedes-Benz. Earlier
this month, however, representatives from Mercedes and AMG announced
that the "horsepower wars" were over, saying that outright power would
no longer be the "main focus" for future sports sedans.

Apparently, no-one sent that "war over" memo to RENNTECH.

This morning, RENNTECH announced a new "stage 3" tune for the 2008 65
series AMG models, which makes use of what RENNTECH calls
"next-generation ECU software" to get 695 hp and 890 lb-ft of torque
from the AMG's twin-turbo V12.

"Power will always be important to many customers, especially torque."
explains Hartmut Feyhl, RENNTECH's president and ex technical director
of AMG North America. "Our cars have always been able to make
considerable torque, and have been praised in magazines for their
drivability. Still, we are constantly trying to improve our product."

Commitment to constant improvement is one reason RENNTECH has become
known as one of the world's premier tuning firms, and America's
foremost authority on Mercedes-Benz. RENNTECH believes their new
software will further cement that knowledge in the public mind. "We
now have two in-house engineers that are doing software full-time, and
others that work with the software on a part-time or contract basis.
We are always looking for improvements. The latest software takes
advantage of the increased power of the new engine computers, and
offers a number of small improvements that add up to a big 'overall'
improvement," Feyhl explains. "It really is that 'next-generation'
sort of product that is much more advanced than what we were capable
of offering before. Compared to earlier versions, our new software
gives customers more power and better drivability in a way that is
more reliable, smoother power curve, and even improves emissions and
gas mileage."

In addition to the software upgrades, RENNTECH adds a larger
intercooler pump and secondary heat exchanger, as well as a pair of
carbon fiber airboxes to improve the flow of cool air into the big
AMG's V12. The intercooler system upgrades reduce air intake
temperatures by more than 20 degrees, delivering more consistent power
compared to stock and allowing RENNTECH to more safely increase boost
throughout the rpm range.

RENNTECH's stainless steel sport mufflers (also part of the new
package) produce a deep, distinctive growl that is suitably aggressive
for a high-end luxury car. Feyhl suggests that his mufflers "let the
car sound the way it is supposed to sound."

With almost 900 lb-ft of torque available from the engine, RENNTECH's
upgrades deliver a real, noticeable improvement in terms power and
acceleration compared to the already impressive performance of the
stock 65 series AMG cars. MSRP for RENNTECH's new performance "PKG3"
for 65 series AMG is $18,990 (plus installation). PKG365 is available
for S65, CL65, and SL65 AMG. Contact RENNTECH for more.

<![CDATA[ Jalopnik Holiday Gift Guide: Exotic Car Rental ]]> We're getting closer to Christmas Day, so it's probably time to start considering gifts that don't require that much shipping. What if you could get your significant other an Aston Martin Vanquish, Murcielago Spider, Ferrari F430 or a Benz SL65 AMG without having to get a 400 month lease? If your pockets are slightly swollen, may we recommend an exotic car rental certificate?

There are companies all over the company country that offer this service with varying rates and fleets. One of the larger companies is Gotham Dream Cars, which offers fleets in Florida and the Northeast. If you're in the NYC area, prices range from a somewhat reasonable $695 for a full day with a BMW M5 to an outrageous $11,950 for a week with a Lamborghini Murcielago. It's not the most original gift, but it might be nice for someone who has an important event coming up and feels a little insecure. [Gotham Dream Cars]

<![CDATA[ eBay Auction of Lindsay Lohan's Mercedes Now Sanitized For Your Protection ]]> Lindsay_Lohan_Mercedes.jpgLooks like the lawyers may have gotten to the auction of Lindsay Lohan's former 2005 Mercedes SL65. The original eBay auction for the dinged up and now apparently fixed Mercedes was very clear as to the pedigree of the former owner. Mysteriously the car was pulled down from auction a couple of days after we reported on it, but It would now seem the seller has re-posted the item — only this time it's been wiped of all traces of the LiLo stain. No word on whether it's now been wrapped in one of those "sanitized for your protection" wrappers often found at budget motels, although perhaps that would decrease the value for the true collectors out there. One thing's for sure, our sources are telling us the seller remains true to their commentary the coke-sprinkled vehicle at auction is the former property of the celebutard — and we'll continue to stick by our "Cokeat Emptor" issued before. <![CDATA[ Federline Asks Britney Not to Drive Kids in New Mercedes ]]> kevinfedpic.jpgWe're getting a bit tired of celebrities and their automotive follies, but there's been an interesting twist in the ongoing saga of Britney Spears, cars and K-Fed's surprisingly high level of parenting competency... and we're hypocrites. Possibly after hearing about Britney and her new SL65, K-Fed had the audacity to ask that she not drive their kids in the massively-powered convertible just because she's had a little history with bad driving and has been dodging her drug tests. What a crybaby. [Brisbane Times]

<![CDATA[ Britney Spears Buys SL65, Who Will She Hit First? ]]> mercedessl65.jpgBecause being a bad mother is a full-time job, we don't blame Britney for taking time out of her busy schedule of chandelier shopping and court appearances to buy a white Mercedes-Benz SL65. As with everything involving Brtiney Spears, it was chaos at the car dealership and she had to have a police escort to test drive the 604-hp beast. Here's an idea: have a police escort anytime she drives the car to protect herself and others. I guess she doesn't read Jalopnik, because if she did she'd know where to find another SL65 on the cheap. [TMZ]

<![CDATA[ Lindsay Lohan's Coke-Sprinkled 2005 Mercedes SL65 On eBay? ]]> Lindsay_Lohan_Mercedes.jpgFor you auto-lovers of the celeb-obsessed variety — who also happen to have $110,000-plus to play with — we've got an eBay auction just for you. There's a Mercedes SL-Class on eBay which the seller claims to be none other than the SL65 Lindsay Lohan smacked into a tree back in May of this year and in which police supposedly found a cute li'l bag of coke. So is it LiLo's Mercedes-Benz? Well, the license plate in the pictures does seem to be the same as that found on the back end of the tree-bashing German drop-top, but we also did a quick AutoCheck vehicle history report on the VIN and the only reported accident on the report comes from February of 2006. So is it the same Mercedes? We're not sure, but you know what they say — Cokeat Emptor. That's what they say, isn't it? (Hat tip to Travis!)
