I had a 1990 Galant GS that was a lot of fun but it was way too expensive to maintain and about the end of my Asian auto buying run and went back to "domestic" branded vehicles.
I traded it in for a $2K loss six months after I bought it because it needed more than that in just standard maintenance work at 50,000 miles.
I remember a GRM $200X entry had a colt with this engine and AWD drivetrain swap. I would love to do that or the same to a Mirage.
Through the magic of wikipedia, I learned today that this engines cousin, the 6G72, powered the 1989–1991 Chrysler TC by Maserati which Murilee featured yesterday. Coincidence?

Sweet. I love this little block of iron-topped-with-aluminum more than what is healthy. Sure, some have mentioned the dreaded crankwalk, but most versions of this little monster are ridiculously solid.
I've put 90,000+ miles on the one in my Evo and it runs like a f*cking champ. Of course, they demand a consistent amount of upkeep, but the reward is lot's of boosted giddiness with stout longevity to boot.
@evoCS-Hench-Minion to the stars: The interference valves and timing belt scare me more than crankwalk. Besides the latter has more to do with uprated clutches that cause the crank to wear out the thrust bearing and pushed the crank into the crank position sensor, not a specific design flaw.

TWO Engine of the Day features in one weekend? I feel like I just spent ten hours in the smokiest, sausage-festiest dive bar in the Tenderloin and somehow went home with millionnaire 18 year old twins. That know cars, even. Such a win.

@johnnylafontaine: Yes, it's included in the hand cranked manual starter/drum brakes/3 on the tree option package. Will you want the optional 78 rpm turntable too?
I kinda like it, there's a whole lot of much uglier cars out there, many of which have already been mentioned. I'd have to add the Pagani Zonda to that list, though.

But it was fun while it lasted.
