I was at Goodwood (just go, it is as amazing as you think it is) a few years ago and MB was the feature make. I spent some time oggling the streamliner. There were little windows on the inside that gave the driver a view of the tires. At AVUS the cars ate tires and those windows were vital for the safety of the drivers.

The also had the 300SL's transporter at Goodwood that year. Dead sexy. #silverarrows

I'm just afraid that Brawn won't be as good under direct Mercedes leadership. Hopefully Button will stay and they'll lure another great driver for the other spot. At least they've got the brain of brawn to lead them. #silverarrows

@cityag: Agreed. Why did Button win the championship? 33% 2x diffuser, 33% strong Merc engine, 33% was slightly better driver than Rubens, 1% raw talent. #silverarrows

With Jense going to McLaren, I think Kimi's only option is Merc. He knows Haug and they chat a lot. With Merc behind Brawn at a factory team, Kimi would be stupid not to give it a go, its his only chance at a possible winning car. Timo went to Manor to develop the car, best of luck Timo...Come on Kimi go to Merc, you don't NEED 25K... #silverarrows

@günter macbeetle, codename: chrystlubitshi: Well I have worked for 3 F1 teams over the years including Ferrari, I can show you some pictures of me with Michael, Jean, pretty much anyone who has been in the paddock since 1997, even Mr. Sauber ect... at many GPs in many different seasons. Sorry English is my 2nd Language so I might mistake some words. You think Kimi has a better chance at a winning car next season than a Mercedes backed Brawn team?? The real contenders are filling up cockpits and Kimi won't settle for a lower team. McLaren won't take Kimi because he asked for too much and Jense is going to McLaren so....? Unless the Jenson rumors are not real, and he isn't signed. Norbert Haug is a decent man and likes Kimi from his McLaren days and I could see a Merc deal happening, but Kimi may still have to come down in price, which he may not. Can you tell me any other team Kimi would want to go to that is open and will pay him? I think you are being kind of an ass, I like this site because it has a wide range of topics and people but there is no excuse for your behavior. I have helped develop electrical systems of many kinds in F1 and other types of vehicles including aircraft, I am from Sweden. So what kind of experience do you have? #silverarrows

@Jono: Well I actually have met the people he is talking about and I know how all that political stuff works in F1, I was shuffled around 3 times with teams and all that. It is not an easy business and its frustrating, so I guess I had some frustrating memories! I am mostly retired now so I do look at the web a bit more than I should! Cheers #silverarrows

Kimi Raikkonen will not participate in the 2010 Formula One campaign according to reports in the Finnish press.

Local newspaper Turun Sanomat has quoted Raikkonen's manager, Steve Robertson, as saying that following a breakdown of talks with McLaren the Finn had decided to sit out the 2010 season. The former World Champion would seemingly prefer not to race at all rather than race in a car in which he had no hope of challenging for the title.

"The options in F1 were with McLaren next season or not at all," said Robertson.

"Kimi and McLaren were unable to reach an agreement, so he will not drive at the F1 level - at least not next year."

"A gap year means nothing for Kimi. He is more interested in fighting for wins and the world championship. F1 will miss Kimi. He worked hard over the summer - doing things in a Ferrari that only the best drivers are capable of," he added.

The sabbatical could see the 30-year-old focusing his efforts on the World Rally Championship. #silverarrows

@F1Morgan: i'm sorry sir, i seem to have mis-spoken. i respect your experience and wish i could have the same. i'm sorry if i offended you... i tend to go for the cheap shots.... because they're kinda funny... sometimes the breakfast scotch, brunch gin, lunch rum, afternoon snack vodka, and dinner brandy get to me a bit. so once again...

my apologies.

(i have no experience... other than ripping it up for cash around local drag strips (Indiana))

@F1Morgan: thank you for sharing that. i haven't been able to keep up with off-season-madness as much as i would like. i am glad that he is taking a bit of time off and not showing any hard feelings what-so-ever...

i would love to see him in the WRC... i think he would be a very prominent driver there... but i can understand wanting some time off...

But I am not working except for a couple projects I can do from home now. Yes Kimi is a character, I worked around him for 2 seasons, he really doesn't care about certain things so its not a surprise. Why he was so firm about getting more cash when he was paid of by Ferrari is a mystery to me. Santander was the reason for Alonso, Kimi didn't really upset anyone at Ferrari. Kimi has his own junior level racing team you know so maybe he wanted to build up some cash for those guys, its hard to say. I think he should take a pay cut and go to Merc, but I'm sure he will be back...

Now that I'm studying for a year in Berlin, I made a pilgrimage out to AVUS. There's a 125 meter high mini-Eifel Tower a block from where that title photo was taken, and from the top you can see the endless grey line of what used to be the straight fade off into the flats of Northern Germany. If you don't mind walking along the edge of the autobahn for a few hundred meters, you can get out onto what used to be the track itself. The whole experience, especially at dusk watching lights flicker by and hearing the howl of superbikes piercing the cold November air, was utterly unreal. #silverarrows

What a year for Ross Brawn! His team, the old Honda F1 team, was on the brink of extinction less than one year ago, and it secured world and constructors' championships under its belt before being swallowed by Mercedes Motorsports! No one could have ever written a script like that!

I'm still trying to get my head around the idea of Jenson Button defecting to McLaren, which seems to be imminent according to various sources. I cannot imagine him being content playing second fiddle to Lewis Hamilton, which any McLaren driver must resign himself to doing given Hamilton's long-term relationship with the team. Also, their driving styles are completely different, which will make car setup, well, interesting.

It will be interesting to see how Mercedes GP does in the 2010 season. What kind of impact can the new parent have in the coming months? Since BrawnGP didn't dominate the grid in the second half of the season, will their early investment in the 2010 car pay off? And while the team may do just fine with drivers like Nico Rosberg and Nick Heidfeld, among others being considered, what about the most-prized driver, Sebastian Vettel, who won't be free from RBR for another year? #silverarrows

And totally terrifying. Those tires are, what, 5 inches wide? Tops? And the only 'driver aid' was Rudolf's big toe...
