The new electric supercar named after the guy who gave his name to the band who gave us Little Suzi was set for a proper unveiling tomorrow. The Internet being what it is, photos of the roadster — once reported to be based on the Lotus Elise — leaked a day early. No specs yet kids, but they'll be Cumin Atcha Live tomorrow. [UPDATE: LLN has news on the Tesla's funding.] [UPDATE 2: Wired has lots more photos.]

We've heard from a source with even more of a rep than our previous source that although Tesla Motors has a relationship with Lotus, the final product will not be the Elise, everyone's favorite psychotic supper, with the Toyota mill replaced with batteries and spinny electrical devices. Meanwhile, Tommy Skeoch and Frank Hannon are no doubt fighting over shop time at Marcos Garcia's place to see who can score the first car with "Edison's Medicine" emblazoned 'cross the bonnet. Watch as the great 'lectric semi-supercar controversy gets muddier...

<![CDATA[Is the Tesla Roadster an Electric Elise?]]>

What can $40 million in venture capital funding buy a prospective builder of upscale electric sports cars? According to one reader, who claims to have an inside track into the Tesla Roadster project, it's a straightforward formula:

1. Start with one Lotus Elise
2. In place of Toyota 4 cylinder, substitute a big 'ol stack of Li-on batteries and an electric motor
3. Hit 60 in 4 seconds

Simple, no?

<![CDATA[Silicon Valley's Electric Supercar: The Tesla Roadster]]>

A group of dot-com cowboys of the modern day are planning to stand the electric-car industry on its dainty, little ear. Actually, the group is covering similar ground as the Venturi F tish, Mullen GT and Wrightspeed EV — all big-bucks, performance-oriented EVs. They're building a new, high-tech — and high-end — electric-powered roadster, the Tesla, which they claim will be a "driver's car" that will handle like a Porsche and go from zero-to-60 in four seconds. Members of the Silicon Valley start-up, having recently secured $40 million in venture investing, say the the Tesla will be Cumin' Atcha Live on July 12 in Santa Monica, California. Our apologies to Little Suzi. [Thanks to Chris for the tip.]
