Obviously, someone should buy a 'KR and sell the special parts at exorbitant prices on eBay, then repanel it as a Mustang GT and go smoke some Civics and Camaros.

Someone with an intact Shelby hood should be making a damn mint by loaning it out to have molds pulled for making knockoff replacements.
Hello, I've got friends in the composites fab business. They usually do aerospace and industrial applications, but if someone with a GT500KR wants to loan me a hood, I'm sure we can work out a profit-sharing arrangement and make big money selling something compatible while STILL undercutting those ridiculous prices.
@MikeHerbst: Much as I love the idea, the sad fact is that Shelby doesn't have to sell very many hoods to pay for the lawyers to come after you if you were to show such excellent entrepreneurial initiative.
put a dollar in the middle of a steel cage and put Shelby and Ecclestone in, and my guess is that you've got the makings of a GREAT fight.
I don't understand. It's a limited production car with a bespoke carbon fiber hood made for a $80,000 car. Of course replacement parts are going to be pissy expensive.
I'm not sure about you guys but I'd totally buy a Replacement Carbon Fiber Hood for a Shelby GT500KR for the current price of $9700 then buy 24 more of my 87 Camaro and have $100 left over.
I know a guy who put a Viper back on the road as his personal touring car after it had been badly wrecked. The door skins were $5k each. Luckily, he is also an awesome fiberglass guy, so he ended up doing it all himself and I can't tell a difference. The hand-built part of the Viper leads to its expensive parts though, from my understanding (hand-made means that they are all slightly different as far as fit goes).
@Ash78: Yeah Shelby is known for suing every chance he can get, it would have done using multiple fake front companies and misspelling Shelby on the hood with "Shelbey" or some such variation or leaving it off altogether. I'm sure it would be easy to find some Chinese importer that is good at that sort of thing.

Could I get a $20k discount if I'd drive it without the hood?
