I follow the news on the SSCs pretty close, they're built about 45 minutes drive from where I live... I've driven the road they used to make the record run.
This area of Washington is not an engineering or manufacturing powerhouse, I haven't actually visited their "factory" but I would be willing to bet it's an industrial shed. The road they ran this thing out on is nowhere near flat (I can think of several that would have been better suited). What they managed to accomplish is truly astounding.
You know, what this car really represents is the ultimate test of Ford Focus headlamp ballistic endurance. Go Ford!
This being the case, FoMoCo really ought to fire up that PayPal account they've left dormant ever since the drunken buying spree they went on several years ago, which ended up with them waking up next to Volvo in their bed the next morning. Ford has spent the ensuing years trying to make an excuse to get her out of the house without some sort of committal cuddle first.
Is it bad that when I read the headline I immediately thought of the Mclaren F1? I know it has been de-throwned for a while now, but my mind still goes there.
@Leeeeena the Jalopchick: Just searched "McLaren F1" on Google Images and CorporateFelon's version is the first one that popped up. Weird. Anyway, here's what you were looking for:
@Leeeeena the Jalopchick: Yeah my bad, I was sort of in a rush this morning. I had picked it becuase it was the first result. I realized after I posted it what I had done. I had hoped no one would notice, but I should have known better.
@engineerd is functionally ЯetardeD: Galley? Sure it does. The window will easily roll down to obtain food items at purveyors of rapid comestibles. Latrine? Also an affirmative. You just have to save the super ginormo-sized soft-drink cups from the aforementioned nourishment vendors.

"I have spoken with several gentleman who own the Bugatti Veyron and have had the opportunity to drive the SSC Ultimate Aero and all felt this car delivers a much comfortable ride as well as giving the driver the complete feeling of being in total command of what they wanted the car to do."
I thought the Veyron was an incredibly luxurious GT that just happened to be blindingly fast. I'd have to see some of these "testimonials" myself, or else I'm calling shenanigans.
@Leeeeena the Jalopchick: I guess the big difference is that when you buy a Veyron you stay at a chateau in Strasbourg near where they build the car...which is also at the chateau.
With the SSC, you meet some dude behind a Vegas casino and swap briefcase with keys while some muscle backs you up.
@brandegee: Not pictured in aforementioned scenario: hired muscle bashes both parties over head with briefcase full of money, takes keys, attempts to take car. Realizes he can't drive stick, tries anyway, grenades tranny with the power of 1183 horses. Gets stuck in bucket sport seat, awaits inevitable arrival of police and eventual mockery on internet.
@OldeEnglishD: There's only one of these that holds the Guinness record, though. History, rarity and performance are what command top prices, so I bet the investment isn't as stupid as you think. It's bound to be better than buying a house right now.
@Leeeeena the Jalopchick: Well as luck would have it I bought my current home in October of 2005, right at the height of the bubble. So yeah, a much better investment than a house. I will now go cry over a bottle of breakfast scotch as I think about all the money I have lost on my house...
@OldeEnglishD: I'm sorry the market went to shit and your house lost a lot of its value :( Here, let me help you drown your pain with the fully stocked Jalopbar!
@JCWhitless - I'm totally Re-Starded: That's one option, but I noticed that a strolling player managed to get them all small while still using the original image sizes. I guess I better just wait for him to wake up and ask.
P.S. Bourbon coming up shortly :) I have a lot of schoolwork, though, so it may take me a day or so to get around to making it.
@Leeeeena the Jalopchick: I think you can do "width=" at the end of the image source code, but without the preview button that Roy stole, you'd be risking it.
Since there aren't any close brackets, putting each on a new line seems to place them next to each other. Oh, and check the URLs, I did yours from memory!

Recaro? Pssht. Barcalounger or nothing.
Could I get mine in grey? Two-tone is hard to maintain.

I wouldn't exactly call it a Veyron-slayer. You win some, you lose some.

1) The roads by me have larger and more numerous potholes than the warzones in Beirut and Iraq, therefore I would be replacing wheels/tires daily.
2) I am in constant fear about that I may lose my job, so this may not be a wise investment at this time.
