    I never understood the use of the term "Rallye" when used in conjunction with American Muscle cars. Until I see Camaros, Mustangs and Challengers yumping through Finland, rolling on 165 series studded tires in Sweden or kicking big clouds of dust through Dakar I will always chuckle when I hear "Rallye" for Yank Tanks.

    I love the look of the new Challenger, but I can't afford the SRT, and I wouldn't enjoy it without a manual...Sadly manuals are becoming harder to find in many cars...even if they are technically available with a manual, the Manufacturers are making precious few of them. It's really unfortunate, because that can make a huge difference in the character of a car...the most poignant example I can think of is the current Subaru Legacy 2.5i. In an auto it is a slow, boring car, but w/ a manual it is peppy and fun.

    I'm willing to bet dealers would be happy to cut a deal, knowing that most people are going to want the slushbox.

    That's like the fat kid dropping his summer job money on Air Jordans, thinking he's gonna revolutionize gym class on the first day of school, only to show up and realize that he paid full price for last year's shoes, and all the cool kids have the Reebok Pumps (read flappy paddle dual-clutch 7-8 speed semi-manu-autos, with no actual clutch pedal to speak of).

    Five, six, twenty seven...it's still an automatic.


    Give me a manual trans, and reconfigure that six so all of the cylinders are inline, and we'll talk.


    Until then, the only acceptable way to get a Challenger is with the V8 and the six speed.
