After hacking the little trucklet into existence, Leung also massaged the engine with upgraded valves, valve springs, new cam, a port and polish on the head, performance header, new clutch and nitrous system. It debuts on the floor at SEMA this week. [TruckTrend via PickupTrucks.com]

Curb Weight: 2315 lbs
Engine Displacement: 1.0 liter inline-three

Curb Weight: 4400 lbs
Engine Displacement: 3.8 liter V6
HP: 250

Cost To Insure: $840
Curb Weight: 3230 lbs
Engine Displacement: 2.0 liter inline-four
HP: 140
TQ: 136

Driver Stereotype: High school band geek

Jalopnik Insurance Cost Analysis: Typically the Sportage is doing exactly the opposite of what its name implies, instead it spends its life carting tubas and other brass instruments between Mom's house and band practice which coincidentally is just down the street. Also, the lack of party invites virtually eliminates any sort of under-the-influence driving.

1.) Hyundai Santa Fe
Price: $21,695

Engine Displacement: 2.7 liter V6

<![CDATA[Scion-Driving Crazy Lady Forces High Speed Chase, Gets Out To Flip Off Cops]]> A lunatic in a Scion xB took California police on a bizarre 40 mile high speed chase, at times stopping to get out of the car to hurl obscenities and "gestures" at officers.

An unnamed woman attempted to ram a patrol car in Long Beach, CA. The car, responding to calls of a woman screaming in an intersection, then followed the Scion on a 40 mile chase at freeway speeds breaching the 100 MPH (xB's can go that fast?) barrier. The chase included moments where the Scion and officers drove against traffic, in circles in the median and most impressively, included a couple seconds when the woman exited the car to scream at the cops and flip them off. She was finally boxed in, pulled from the car and taken into custody, but seriously, that's a whole lot of crazy right there. [Huffington Post]

<![CDATA[2010 Nissan Cube Unveiled Early]]> Tomorrow comes a day too soon in Japan as Nissan has already released a load of pictures of both the USDM and JDM Cube, which is to be "unveiled" tomorrow at the LA Auto Show. This eccentric little box is vying for the same niche as the polarizing Scion xB. Japanese Cubes are powered by a 107 Horsepower, 109 lb-feet Torque 1.5L fourbanger fitted to a CVT transmission. Drive setups include front and all-wheel drive. The configurations coming to the States currently remains unknown. Check back tomorrow for the official US specifications and more photos as they roll in from our guys in the City of Angels.

Check out more on the Nissan Cube from CarandDriver.com

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. today revealed the all-new, third generation of its highly successful Nissan Cube in launch events in Japan, the United States and Europe. The fully redesigned Cube continues the iconic "cubic" styling of the previous generation, adding a higher level of refinement and polish inside and out. Sales of the new Cube begin in Japan on Nov. 26, followed by North American in the spring of 2009, and Europe and other global markets in fall 2009.
Originally launched in 1998, the Cube has sold nearly one million units to date in Japan. The latest version maintains the distinctive exterior styling that is instantly recognizable as the Cube, such as the asymmetric rear end, while pursuing a simpler, more universal design for its debut on the world stage. It offers greater comfort, a larger cabin and a host of innovative interior details such as sofa-like seating, a large glass roof panel that extends over the driver's seat for an open, airy view of the outside environment, and a shoji-style roof shade that fills the cabin with gentle light. Despite its increased roominess, the new Cube remains less than four meters long, providing big utility within a small physical footprint. With its excellent visibility and maneuverability, along with smooth performance and high fuel efficiency, the new Cube is a high-performance daily driver created to be enjoyed by value-conscious buyers worldwide.

"The new Cube is designed for people who imagine a life less ordinary, who have grown tired of the never-ending pursuit of faster, more powerful, more outrageously styled cars," said Yosuke Iwasa, Segment Chief Product Specialist. "The quieter, more harmonious qualities of the Cube have attracted interest not only among young people, but for those in every walk of life. While carrying forward the concept of the original Cube, this latest edition has advanced significantly, including offering far greater comfort."

"The new Cube is a refined car of universal quality and appeal, that can compete without 'makeup' or excessive decoration," said Seiji Watanabe, Associate Product Chief Designer. "The development concept took the approach of 'purifying' the Cube design, rather than "evolving' it. A jagged rock, for instance, loses its edges and takes on a polish as it travels down a river. This is the sort of refinement we wanted for the new Cube. We worked to simplify its exterior, using fewer lines and widening certain areas. We allowed the Cube design to refine itself, moving closer to nature and suggesting human warmth. The resulting 'purer, more peaceful' design is just what we wanted. It is a vehicle for people who are not being influenced by others, who go their own way, and enjoy interactions with friends in a welcoming atmosphere."

<![CDATA[Toyota Resorts To Building Taco Truck Scions Ahead Of Financiapocalypse]]> It takes a certain kind of genius to combine two seemingly disparate products like tacos and paint into one business venture. It took Toyota to do 'em both in this Scion xB modified for duty as a taco and paint truck. See, now that you've seen it, the imaginary palm to forehead moment is inevitable. This particular Scion Hako xB was customized under the hand of Louie Contreras and painted by Kenton Parker and contains complete facilities for the cooking up of tacos and the selling of paint. We absolutely love the picture of the anthropomorphized taco and spray paint can. If SEMA was made up of cars like this, it would be a heck of a lot more fun.

<![CDATA[Grandma and Grandpa Go Ghost Riding, Ghost Riding Officially No Longer Cool]]> We knew ghost riding was definitely on the downward trend after being all the rage with rappers and military convoys for going on two years now. But, after seeing this video of Gran and Gramps gettin' jiggy with their Scion, we know it wasn't yet dead. Now it is. However, we find it amusing and sad that these two have better moves than any of the Jalopnik staff — even at Wert's mythical weekend wedding. (Thanks for the tip Richard) [Youtube]

<![CDATA[Dealer Sets Scion xB On Fire, Destroys It]]> A forum member over at ScionLife took his Scion xB to the dealer for a technical service bulletin issue this past week and got a call no car owner ever wants to receive. Somehow, the dealer managed to set his car on fire. The customized xB was totaled in the blaze and the Scion dealer has promised to replace the xB. Although there's no word on the aftermarket parts destroyed in the fire, we're assuming they'll be replacing those as well. We knew the xB was a hot little car to Scion fan-boys, but this is ridiculous.

<![CDATA[Scion Gets Its Assy McGee On For Youth Marketing]]> Scion sure does know its youth demographic. Is there anything a kid enjoys more than faux graffiti designs and a talking ass cartoon character? No, not really. Scion's latest outreach to the youth market comes with a mock commercial featuring Assy McGee as a Scion xB slinging salesman—Assy is the gun-welding main character of the same-named Adult Swim cartoon. The commercial is featured within the actual show, and not as its own entity. If you're still curious what this Assy McGee guy is all about, check out a video after the jump.

Personally, Assy McGee is a fantastic and hilarious show and I don't blame Scion going that way to reach out to the youth it desperately wants to appease. Not surprisingly, this is Scion's second cameo in Adult Swim programming. The Scion tC was featured in Frisky Dingo. [Winding Road]

<![CDATA[The Chevy 350 V8-Powered Scion xB Defies Stereotypes, Logic]]> As we become a more automotively diverse culture you're bound to see dozens of modded Scions and JDM Nissans with Fairlady badges on one side of town, and some good old boys in their Camaros and small-block powered Novas on the other. Rick, of Whitemarsh, Maryland, has found a way to roll with both crews by dropping a stroked 350 V8 good for 450 horsepower in his 2004 Scion xB.

Oh, and to make things better it's also been converted to RWD (so it's theoretically drivable). There's no telling how much money has been put into this car, but according to his estimates there's been at least 10 months worth of work done on the car to get it converted, painted and ready to drive. Wouldn't it have been easier to just use a Hayabusa? [CarDomain via CarScoop]
