I thought they meant that the transporter was "light and fast, with great driving dynamics". That would've been cool. Defy physics while hauling race cars.
There are a vast many things that I'd rather spend $600k on, but I am forever grateful that there are people in this world for which that does not hold true. Thank you, Mr. Orosco.
Not one of my shots - this is 1 of 2 1957 Fiat Transporters used by Ferrari in Europe. It's in Jon Shirley's collection at his "Garage Mahal" in Bellevue. He'll bring ity out every once in a while to vintage race events. I've got my own shots archived - need to get them online. No decals or transfers on it - all hand painted logos, etc. Restored to exactly as it was in 1957. Very impressive when it rolls up with the 333 SP on it.
@Vintage Racer needs a new schtick....: Are you going to the Portland Historics? I can't decide which day(s) to attend, thinking about taking the train down from sEattle or some sort of Train/Bicycle combo trip.
@jimmythefly: As far as I know we'll be there. We haven't run the July Portland race for a couple of years, but the driver want's to make a run on the points championship this year. So that means the Historics in Seattle on the 4th of July, Portland the following weekend, and the BC Historics up at Mission Raceway the following weekend... pretty solid stretch of racing.
If I won the lottery, this would come into my hands, along with the transporter that carried the P156 Sharknose, and others. Then I would make a full on replica P156, and call it a day.
In other news, I'm still mourning the loss of David Carradine. Anyone else had this on their mind all day? He was such a great man. I met him once in Toronto, in Chinatown as a child. He had a timmies donut, and my mom was getting his autograph while he was filming for The legend continues.
I was eyeing his donut, and you know what he did? It was on the timmies bag on the counter, and he said "You want the donut?" I was like 4, and I nodded and smiled. And he gave it to me.
I ate Carradine's Donut.
I'm proud to say, his politeness, and his heart, it's something I will never forget.

One of my faves is the Cheetah, built by Norm Holtcamp back in the early '60's.
Then there is the Mercedes Benz RennTransporter... That is one sweet hauler.

Why are modern car transporters so bleah.
