    It looks good. Just like the Saturn Astra looked good. GM was just terrible at product placement and advertisement. And while it's 1-point-nothing litre engine may have been sufficient for all the poor saps in europe, here in AmericaFuckYeah, a car with those looks needed a bit more balls.

    No marketing
    High pricing for segment
    Lame cupholders (yeah, I know, but this apparently matters to people)


    I hate these stillbirths because they feed fuel to the fire against bringing rebadged imports over here. Same applies to Saturn in general, to a lesser degree.

    The GTC sketches make it look good and angry.


    The Astra looks more pedestrian.


    Any word on power? Or is this just a cosmetic change?


    I drove an Astra in Germany. It had a "Sport" button. More cars need "Sport" buttons.

    Not that this car's quality once it was Saturnized would have been any better than marginal anyway.

    There really wasn't any "Saturnization" involved in the Astra anyway. Aside from the badges and the ECU, the one we get in the states is literally the exact same car sitting on the floor of any Opel dealer in Germany.


    That was part of the car's problem, Americans aren't used to bolstered seats, tight suspension, no cup holders, and metric dash clocks.

    @ranwhenparked: Hmm, that's not how I recall it.


    I think the Saturn version got slightly silly bumpers, an American engine, piss-poor mileage and a price that was higher than its competitors.


    That's why it didn't sell. It lacked half of what buyers were looking for in the car, namely efficient, revvy euro engines and a cheaper price than a Golf/Rabbit. It had neither.


    I went, I looked, I bought something else.

    This is what GM should do. Instead of selling it as a Saturn, sell it as an Opel. I mean, people will think, "Wow this is a brand new car company with fresh ideas. I like their cars. Awesome." Then they find out that its GM. "Goddammit. This car is a piece of shit. Where's my Civic?"

    The Cruze could be sedan only and the Astra would be the smaller hatchback alternative. Like the Civic and the Fit for Honda.

    @philipmein: That approach is entirely too logical and will get you nowhere. No, this is GM we're talking about. You have to produce like 300 different models, with at least 5 competing against each other at all times (as well as competing with Ford, Toyota, Honda, etc.). It's a rule. And you know what sticklers for rules we can be.
