1.75 light-seconds, you'd expect it to leak some oil.

I wanted to fucking bludgeon the guy to death.
This kind of over-the-top abuse and negligence is tantamount to beating your dog in my book.

As someone else pointed out here recently, a lot of people equate car washes with car maintenance. I, for one, haven't washed my car in 6 months, but I actually do mechanical maintenance BEFORE I end up stranded. Go figure.

So my 16 year old butt was driving around at high RPM with no oil pressure. Replacing that motor learned me good, always buy dry sump lube systems. Or if necessary don't drive like a hoon.

That's the beauty of the old Saturns (SL, SC, SW, L-series, Ion). They are completely anti-hoon driving. They just can't do it. And if you try, you will likely kill yourself and the car due to their sloppy suspension set up.

These kids and their new fangled engines.. See the problem is that it's one of them chinese engines. if they put a proper american iron block engine in it they wouldn't have had this problem... probably crap chinese oil too.. made of lead and ground up children.. blah blah blah blah..

She bought it with 100k on the clock and ran it up to about 250k in 8-10 years.
Never changed the oil. She said she just added more when it was low. So apart from the filter, she was sort of changing the oil on a continuous basis. I'm sure the lack of filter change wasn't helping with the consumption. But hey, it ran.

The ES is the Camry with leather and gold badging. The LS is the V8 powered S-class fighter. The original LS is widely reported to be "overbuilt."

I had a friend that used to work for Saab at their call center for the 1-800 number. He would occaionally get calls about warranty problems for people that went 20-40k miles with NO oil changes.

Yeah, I'm sure that Astra in there WITH THE WINDOW STICKER is because of a major breakdown, not just prep or anything.

But as a fun side project, I'd like to go tour local Honda and Toyota dealers, count how many '08s are in the shop.

These are the voyages of the Failboat Enterprise, its continuing mission to explore a strange new service intervals, to be the sole renter to the under-25 crowd, to boldly fail where no rental company has failed before. Except maybe Fox.

Makes me want to engage all phaser banks!

Doesn't surprise me one bit. Every couple years when I have to take the vee-dubs in for pro service, my indy doesn't offer that. But he used to give me a ride to work when I worked closer to his shop. We've been fortunate, knock on wood trim (two Audi-derived B5 2.8 models with all the options, half of which work!)

I guess this means that, just to be safe, I'd better change my oil every 25,000 miles.

@Matt Britt: You're new here, but our refusal to bow at the altar of Toyota kinda makes us sarcastic bastards.
