Wow!
I can see why though - I just bought a GenCoupe 2.0T GT and it's fantastic. Everyone I've shown it to so far loves it. It's obvious they're really trying to get it right and make a good impression, just laying on the features too.
Rhys Millen set a new record for 2WD time attack at Pikes Peak with a race-modded GenCoupe too, so it also looks promising in motorsport so far.
Shocked, just shocked. It's almost as if they make small, inexpensive, fuel efficient cars and the government was handing out thousands of dollars in cash incentives to folks wishing to reduce their fuel consumption.
Kidding aside, Hyundai has really impressed lately. That number is enormous compared to the other figures coming out today, but not entirely surprising based on CARS and their recent push for quality improvements.
What cars does Chrysler have that actually qualify for C4C? I can only think of the Caliber. Does the Compass qualify? Either way, there you go. No surprise here.
"A survey of nearly 1,000 participants in the program found 17% say they have some doubt or serious doubts about having bought a new car, says CNW Market Research. Most said they regret now having a $275 to $350 per month car payment they didn't have before the purchase. Typically, buyers' remorse hits roughly 6% to 8% of new vehicle buyers within a month."
Despite Cash for Clunkers, Chrysler still went bankrupt, called do-overs on lifetime power-train warranties, has an entire lineup of universally hated cars, and is lacking the fan-boy base of a 40 year production history to support the lethargic new Challenger... yeah, sales are still down.
@TimTim: Yup, a no brainer. That's why I'm excited that Fiat owns them now. Perhaps they can bring something to the line people actually WANT to buy. At the moment the only reason I'll ever drive a Chrysler is if I'm renting a car.
@UGAdawg: I really hope to god they don't screw up their re-entry this time! It better be well planned and executed perfectly. Americans don't like to get bent over twice. Especially since they got into bed with that dull excuse of a company called Chrysler which is out of all excuses.

I disagree with your analysis. The Camaro outselling the Mustang for a month is indeed a very small, insignificant feat. GM has hyped the crap out of the Camaro for the past three years, and it's finally out. It will certainly sell well for the first year. But is it sustainable? The Mustang is an old, hoary, low-tech design which hasn't seen much R&D funding over the years. Strong Camaro sales for the rest of 2009 are a foregone conclusion.
The Mustang is an old, hoary, low-tech design which hasn't seen much R&D funding over the years.
Really?
I think that it has gotten quite a bit of R&D money over the years, unless the GT500 and the 2010 Mustangs came free of charge from the engineering department at Ford. The refinements made to the 2010 Mustang vs the 2009 Mustang alone cost quite a bit of dough. And despite the live-axle rear suspension, there is nothing old, hoary, or low-tech about the Mustang.
I think someone is just a little bitter towards GM.
As a Camaro fan (I've owned 4 over the years) I'm glad it's back and makes 100hp more than the Mustang! I really like the look of the Ford, but the lack of power is embarassing for them. Anyway, as much as I'd like to plunk down cash for a new SS, I can't believe people are paying premiums or even full MSRP for any car in this economy. What's the point of being the first on your block to have a Camaro when there will be so many around next year or two? I'll wait for some rebates or a nice used one.
I would rather bide my time and wait for the demand to cool a little so that I can get a reasonable price on one.
Also, if rumor is correct, and all goes well, the 2011 Mustang that we should start seeing stories on in a year or so is supposed to get the new Coyote engine, which should make things interesting. If that happens, I wouldn't be surprised if the base V6 also gets replaced by the Ecoboost V6.
When that happens, us Camaro guys might be in just a little bit of hot water. Hopefully the Camaro engineers are already cooking something up.

Could it be because Chrysler doesn't make the Camaro? C'mon, Wert, you can tell us, we'll keep it a secret.

I think a significant drop is expected, maybe on par with last year's numbers...

But, then, I also hold out hopes for an AWD V6 Malibu coupe.
Yeah, I know. I'm weird.

Of course, the 4th gen F-body was supposed to be so much better, too, but the Mustang absolutely killed it in sales. Heh.
