I don't think the design of those angular and flattish tires is going to catch on.

Okay, so it doesn't look like a Chrysler. It's got that over the Tribeca.

Uh, yeah, I think that's it. As long as this means GM's taking the Trollblazer behind the barn, I can live with it.

    Aha! Wikipedia sez:

The GMT360 platform and the 9-7X are not scheduled to be updated or continued after the 2009 model year. Its position in the Saab lineup was eventually to be occupied by the Subaru B9 Tribeca-based Saab 9-6X, however GM has divested its Subaru stock and 9-6X development has been cancelled. Instead, the position will be filled by the Theta-based 9-4X, a vehicle scheduled for production during the 2010 model year.

Sounds like good news to me! Small, sporty crossover! I can live with that.

I'm going to call shennanigans - do automakers PATENT their designs?
I know that they trademark names & derivatives thereof, but i thought that patents were reserved for new & innovative products and processes. (Though GM should have the patent on the process of Badge engineering)

@rexplex: Yes they do. Though these aren't full patents but "design patents" which basically just cover the exact look or ornamental design of the object as opposed to the technical features.

The design patent in question is real and can be found on the USPTO website [patft.uspto.gov]

Although published on November 4, 2008 is was actually filed June 29, 2007. So they have been floating around for a little while though not 3 years.

@rexplex: VW/Audi should have the patent on badge-engineering, as they're the company that actually does it right. In paying licensing fees to VW for following the process, GM should have to take classes from them on how to do it properly.

Almost kind of makes me want GM to go under...Stuff like this...What they need are cars that are going to sell and produce the capital they need to survive...stuff like this shouldn't even be a consideration right now.

Maybe after a century of mismanagement, they'll start to turn things around.

Also, someone already made a Bonneville Vmax Prius...I don't see why a drag Prius could be much stupider than that.

Its a bad idea for several reasons:

    1) Nobody needs another crossover.

    B) The same reasons the 9-2x was a bad reason, nobody's gonna pay 20 grand more for a Saab that is identical to a Subaru.

    III) I don't have a third point.

@wrx-tyrannosaurusWrx: From what I recall the 9-2x was only slightly more expensive than the Subaru version but it was also better equipped, had better interior materials and sound insulation. I'm not sure where you got $20k as a price difference, but that sounds completely unlikely.Saab desperately needs new models, and the Tribeca is a great car, just not quite a looker, so this might sell well.

@superveloce: So 20 grand more is an overstatement, as the 9-2x was only 3 grand more than the Subaru back in 04, but I'm sure this car would sell for more than 3000 more than the Tribeca if produced. And really, the Tribeca is already outfitted pretty well, so how much more upscale could it get? And its already pretty expensive, starting at around $37,000 or $38,000. Are there really that many people that are going to buy a Saab version of the Tribeca? Saab does need new cars, but I don't think this is it.

Um...okay. I see nothing to make fun of here. The Tribeca is a great little crossover. If GM can leverage it's platform, I see no reason why it shouldn't, so long as it does a little more to differentiate it from the Subaru than it did with the 9-2X

@pauljones: I didn't intend for my observation to be insulting, Jalopians usually reserve their vitriol exclusively for cars. Although in the case of the Nissan 350Z/Infiniti G37, the hatred is felt equally for the car itself as well as the douchebags that are prone to drive it.

So no hard feelings my friend, just wanted to let you know that most of us utterly loathe new cars as much as we completely worship old ones.
