Nice, but needs to be narrower for to cut through dark forests. And also 2-cycle so you don't need separate jerrycans when you refuel your ice auger and chainsaw, and 9-5.

This was designed and built under GM management, right?

What if it was actually a Saab-badged G8 Sportwagon and they weren't telling us?

In completely unrelated news, I think they're putting something in the coffee at my office to help keep everyone thinking positive.

I love Saab, but it needs to transition to a strictly AWD brand, as does Acura. I can not see paying premium $ for a FWD car, regardless of how nice it is.

@blue-coupe: Like hell it does. SAAB was very cheerfully dedicated to the cause of driveshaftlessness from the beginning. If you can bolt your propellers to one end of the crank, why not do the same with your drive wheels? And therein lies a history, with a moment of silence for the intervening transaxle.

AWD is fine - if you're Subaru. SAAB used to have an utterly distinct philosophy when it came to cars, and now it's just another spurt in the gene pool. Not a big spurt, either. God willing, Koenigsegg will change all that.

I saw a commercial the other day for the new CTS wagon, and in the middle of telling a story (Me? Storytelling? NEVER!) I audibly gasped and let out an "Ohhhh."

The girl I was with asked if I'd just soiled myself, then asked which car I'd just seen. Not which girl, which car. It's nice when your friends know you so well.

@Deartháir - Now with more SingoFinger™!: That was interesting... it submitted all by itself! Closing statement -- and consequent relevance -- was supposed to be, "As a historical fan of Saab, expect a similar reaction if this wagon is as pretty as it could be. Expect an opposite reaction if it ends up looking like a rebadged Malibu MAXX."

Meh. Take out the dash, then you'd have a Saab I'd be interested in.

@jdoubleh, aberration roulante: What a depressing species us humans are.

Tangentially related- when I was a kid, we had a largish number of "barn cats". Once, a large grey tom needed to go the vet. When the paperwork was being filled out, the vet asked "And what is the cat's name?"
"Oh, he doesn't have one," my mom replied, and the form was marked " / " in that space. From then on, that cat was called "Slash".

Bring back the EV-1 - eat it, GM - call it the Sonnet, and attract the driving enthusiasts back from Starbucks.

@pauljones: You're not thinking about the right EV-1.

    This EV-1:
It was a fully functional design study. Windows rolled down, new carpet smell, the works.

And it went like stink. 0-60 in 5.8 if I recall correctly, and that's pretty damned good for a front-driver.

Someone got a COTD from mentioning BurlappCars and their lack of sources, right?

They took the photos in Saab's Showroom Of The Future at the Saab Museum in Trollhattan. There's a pic of the 9-4X as well:

@Ambiguously Unfunny Syrax: I still think that the 9-4X is redundant in light of the 9-5 wagon sitting right next to it, but even so, I do still look forward to seeing the new Saabs.

    Dammit Saab, quit teasing me!

As the maker of my second most favorite wagon ever (The 9-3X Turbo SportCombi), Saab holds a special, if small, place in my car-loving soul. I am curious to see what this thing finally looks like, and I hope that it truly is good, as the current 9-5 pretty much blows when compared to its much newer contemporaries.

In my opinion, Saab needs to aim the new 9-5 squarely at the new Acura TL. A technology and gizmo-laden car that is fast enough for the average car buyer (and the TL, even in base FWD form, certainly is) and is actually stylish (the TL certainly isn't).

    Don't let me down, Saab.
