”GM To Shrink Future Saabs, Reverse Brand Bloat
According to Automotive News, GM will be shifting the direction of Saab by shrinking the dimensions of future products. Every project manager in the automotive world will lose their minds at this revelation, given that traditionally, across all brands, bigger is always better. Yet forthcoming mid-size Saabs will be underpinned by the Delta platform rather than the larger Epsilon-2. Delta, keep in mind, is what will also be beneath the 2010 Chevy Volt and the 2010 Chevy Cruze, among other vehicles. More »

UPDATE: We used the "GM Buckles" line for purposes of humor. They really didn't "officially release" these pictures. They're from the same video presentation we saw earlier in the week. Just a wee bit more clear than the last set.
The clamor of every auto enthusiast outlet on the face of this earth was apparently too much for GM. They've just released slightly less grainy shots of what we showed you first Tuesday afternoon — the vehicles "Slick" Rick Wagoner revealed at Tuesday's press conference. Apparently none of the assembled outlets were able to figure out how we got our mitts on those shots of the 2011 Chevy Cruze, 2010 Cadillac SRX, 2010 Chevy Equinox, 2010 Saab 9-4X and an unnamed Buick sedan for 2010 — and of course we're not planning on revealing our slightly silly source. But, thanks to their demand for access, we now get an ever-so-slightly better look at the purported saviors of the GM sales world. Have a gander.

Saab 9-3X Wagon Spotted Cuddling Next To New 9-4X
The folks over at Trollhattan Saab have dug up some images of another new Swedish surprise, the Saab 9-3X lifted from a presentation also showing off the 2010 Saab 9-4X. We're told to expect this new Saab 9-3X to debut at the Paris Motor Show later this year. More below.More »
Rick Wagoner Unwraps First Shots Of Chevy Cruze, Cadillac SRX
In the now-infamous press conference from General Motors this morning, Chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner not only spelled out GM's strategy to save itself from impending doom, but also revealed pretty much every upcoming GM vehicle that hadn't already been shown to the public. This includes the first photos of the 2010 Chevy Cruze, 2010 Cadillac SRX, 2010 Saab 9-4X, and the 2010 Chevrolet Equinox. This comes in addition to official confirmation of the 2010 Buick LaCrosse, 2010 Cadillac CTS Coupe and 2010 Cadillac CTS Wagon. So basically, along with GM's own downsizing, they're also putting plenty of enterprising spy photographers out of business too.GM Wants More Money, Fewer Employees; Cadillac CTS Coupe, Saab 9-4X Get The Green Light
GM announced in a press conference this morning that its turnaround progress was proceeding so well that significant layoffs were needed. Oh, and please, send money. But the more pressing concern this week is to come up with $15 billion through cuts to the cost of salaried employees, particularly among white-collar staffers, along with spending in areas like health care costs and dividend payments. As part of its second restructuring this year, the company also announced that the 2010 Cadillac CTS Coupe and Saab 9-4X have been green-lighted. Details on where the job cuts will hit hardest were absent, but if our job description had the word "truck" in it anywhere, we'd be dusting off the resume quick-like. More analysis after the jump. The Saab 9-X BioHybrid has been crowned as the coolest car to never actually exist by 25 professional auto journalists at the Automotive Hall of Fame. The award, better known as the "Specialty Concept Car of the Year," was bestowed upon the 9-X BioHybrid due to its ultra-efficient 200 HP 1.4-liter BioPower turbo hybrid engine. Not only were the underhood goods touted, but the panel of journalists also loved how purty the 9-X BioHybrid looks, with its electronic power-sliding floor, ambient light design, instrument panel and more. The 2010 Saab 9-4X was caught running round the Nurburgring today just like the big boys and while we're pretty certain the Audi (both of them) is (are) a pinch quicker, the 9-4X is definitely more economical. Word on the street is the new 9-4X will not only be replacing the porky Oldsmobile Bravada Saab 9-7X, but will be doing it with some form of "biopower" like the original show car. The crossover of Trollhattan is expected to be on sale some time in 2009 for the 2010 model year, but that didn't stop our KGP spies from spittin' words about this one — which you can read after the break.

2008 Saab Turbo X Hits The Track, Goes Head-To-Head With The Subaru WRX STi, BMW M3, BMW 3-Series And Audi A4
We'd read somewhere that at the height of the Cold War, the U.S. locked in the struggle against the evil Commies, Sweden was considered as a potential candidate for location of a Northern European base for F-117A Night Hawk Stealth fighters. Obviously that didn't happen as the decision was made to base all 59 of the arrow-headed black-as-night fighters stateside at Holloman Air Force Base after testing completed at the Toponah test range. And now, well, now they've all been retired. But we're going to imagine for a moment that maybe a couple of them were sent over to Sweden for some leave time. It's the only way we're able to explain the 2008 Saab Turbo X — because if Saab claims they're born from jets, we're of the impression this jet-black baby meatball's daddy has to be an F-117A. Earlier this week our intrepid Editor-in-Chief and I were invited over to Gingerman Raceway on Michigan's western coast to watch as Saab attempted to prove that pedigree by taking on the limited-edition Turbo X's competitors — the Audi A4 3.2 Quattro and the BMW 335 Xi. In addition, and just to see how it stacked up, the Swedes also brought along a new 2008 Subaru WRX STi and a brand spanking new 2008 BMW M3. So what happened? Well, hit the jump.More »

Saab has just announced that the 2008 Turbo X — the new range-topping version of their 9-3 sedan — will start at $54,995 — just shy of 55,000 loonies. Do the math and that's $53,898 in real money, $11,388 (USD) more than the car will start at south of the Windsor-Detroit line. Yet vehicle sales in Canada remain strong, despite continuing price disparities and in contrast to US sales, which are on the decline.

Saab Reflective Eco-Clothing
We don't really understand what the point of the Saab's "Reflective Eco-Clothing" fashion show was last night. Though come to think of it, Saab has had a recent habit of making fantastical concepts which hold little regard for reality, so maybe these dolphin-safe reflect-o dresses fit right in with Saab's image after all. Oh yeah— the 9-4X BioPower and 9-X BioHybrid concepts were there too, but we've seen those plenty by now.

Saab 9-X Is A Hybrid Of Concept And Reality
The Saab 9-X BioHybrid Concept is allegedly more than just another far-fetched yet stylish show car. Actually, this vehicle is supposed to hint strongly at an upcoming 9-1. For now, GM claims the car is powered by a 200HP 1.4-liter turbo four-banger, with magical Swedish hippie hybrid trickery. GM also feels the need to tell us that the engine can run on E85— as if that's even newsworthy anymore. No word on where the ignition key will go. But you know how Saab loyalists are about that extra-special quirk. Press release after the jump.More »

Joining in on the small hybrid party, GM is showing off this Saab 9-X BioHybrid Concept. The styling is familiar, and similar to the 9-4X BioPower. But what's underhood is new; a turbocharged 1.4-liter 4-cylinder engine that can run on either gasoline or ethanol, making 200 HP on the corn juice. This is mated to GM's next generation hybrid system, which we still don't know much about. Other interesting features are a solar panel on the roof used to help charge the batteries, and an active rear spoiler that elongates the body and reduces drag. For now, the small Saab is a concept; but expect to see it in showrooms before too long, positioned in the same segment as BMW's Mini. And even if this Saab doesn't make it to US shores, this platform will be the same used on the Chevy Volt. Full press-release after the jump.

As part of its Ethanol extravaganza, GM showed off its Saab 9-4x BioPower concept, a preview of a small Saab SUV. Set up with a 2.0-liter four producing 300 hp on E85 Ethanol, and driven by the same four-wheel gear as the Turbo X, the 9-4x is a thoroughly non-Saaburu, sharing a platform with European Cadillacs. Piloting the concept to stage left was a blond-on-blond family of winter sports enthusiasts. It's like they're Swedish, get it?
