I have a soft spot in my heart for the Pontiac Fiero. It pushes all the right buttons: rear-engine, rwd, light, coupe and ease-of-swapping-in a v8.
To see one reduced to LeMons duty makes me sad. But not half as sad as looking at that 300zx. That thing looks like it was gorgeous prior to getting the LeMons Day Spa Gift Certificate.
Poor nice cars. Drive fast and win the race, not the People's Curse!
When I said that the MkIII Jetta "appeared to have feces smeared on its hood", I wasn't being serious. Nice. Seeing that in the Top 10's a bit of a surprise given their hit-or-miss build quality, but the MkII's no real shock.
I'd rock that 300ZX as a daily-driver. Beautiful.
It's seeing the Escort and 80 Quattro (get in mah dictionary) here that were pleasant surprises. Good on 'em.
@A strolling player is: Gold Member!: Nearly all of the MkIII Jettae for the US market were built in Puebla. That factory started building the MkIIs in '92 or so (forget exactly).
Thus, most of the MkIIIs running 'round here are from Puebla. The only exceptions are the Wolfsburg Editions (though the MkIV Wolfsburgs were build in Puebla...) as far as I know.
@F*ckingPlushroom: You are right. Well, if its a manual, at least its got the same transmission as the 1984/1985 T/Ts. Even later Escort's used Ford IB four speeds, but thats about the only similarity between it and the older CE14-based models.
That's right. A car built in one of the most liberal nations on Earth, sold to yuppies and wealthy free-thinkers, winning a beater race in South Carolina.
@A strolling player is: Gold Member!: I didn't say "liberal" like it was a bad thing. I just thought it was humorous considering the venue of this race.
Besides, the not-quite-so-quirky E30 and A2 carried the day in the end.
I love all forms of racing. Nascar, F1, even some cycle and Grand Prix. I can put up with bad camera angles and bad commentary.
I will say this. I watched the video coverage off and on and it was B-quality porno at best. Awful, rubbish, with interruptions and blackouts of important bits.
Which means I enjoyed it.
With my pants off.
It was like watching Spice channel. Without paying for it. All the audio and a general idea of what is going on, in between all the squiggly bits.
But to be leading a LeMons race? They sure do drive heck of a lot better than Jeremy Clarkson. And it's always great to see these "minority" brands win over the field of stencilled E30s and "$500" Miatas.
Finally, all those virgin sacrifices have paid off! And here I was about to doubt the value of all that effort.
But before I get too cocky, I'll wait to see what the FIA stewards do after reviewing the tapes. They'll probably find a way to award first to some Fierrari...

Although kudos to the old Saab. Saw one of those 900 Turbo's yesterday.

I see two or three old 900s every day. I love this state, even if the really cool old stuff has all gone to shit.

And we got to see the judges in action.
I did not get one damn thing done today. And tomorrow is not looking too promising, either.
