If you wanted to take the trouble to part this thing out you could probably finance a 2-3 car "normal" LeMons team, including all the safety gear and registrations.
For all of you wondering why no DMV will register this car: remember this car is from Paraguay. Which means the car is not a US market car. Chances are since it was brought in on diplomatic plates, there's no DOT, EPA, or Customs releases on it, and was supposed to be returned home when the 'owner' went home. The car getting caught up in a drug case brought all that to a smoking halt. The car being in a drug case isn't why it can't be registered, rather it's simply because, in the eyes of the Feds, it doesn't meet our regs, and cannot be registered. Sadly, Federalizing this one will cost far more than the car is worth.
Boy, these guys are going to have to run CLEAN if they want to avoid People's Curse... though it sounds like that may be their goal... just make sure the drivetrain isn't damaged.

Shocking. A car this nice for $500? Why couldn't dealers sell it? I don't get it. Even if they did find this car for $500, why would you destroy it in a Le Mons race? If some lunatic sold you a nice E-Type for $500 would you enter it? Also, proves yo have to be an idiot to buy a new car.
@superveloce: The claim is probably that it's not registerable in any U.S. state, probably because (1) its VIN says it wasn't sold in North America and (2) the cert plaque doesn't say it "complies with all Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards" which are the magic words to register an import (or any) car.
Except-- somebody didn't check with the NHTSA website, where the U.S. government keeps their magical list of vehicles that can be imported and registered in America, no questions asked!
This car could probably be registered in any state that doesn't require that you hold a "title" to a 10+ year old car -- just a "bill of sale".
Step 2 . . . profit!
When I was shopping for a new-to-me beater Benz, I was lured by a couple of S-class sedans, with the V-12, selling for less than $5K. More than I wanted to spend, but c'mon...it's a freakin' 12 cylinder S-class!
After little research I found, and talking to the "owners", um, while I like exotic sedans, V-12 power, high-end luxury, and all that, I also don't like to walk because the last few previous owners were complete and total idiots.
The fuel tanks on these are between the rear wheel wells, and are nearly untouchable in accidents. However, did they have to run a fuel cell, anyway?
@that ain't the way to have fun, son: You can run the stock fuel tank on pretty much any car in LeMons. They receive a lot less scrutiny than fuel cells. Even P71 Crown Vics can run the stock tank and there's a well-documented history of the explosive power of one of those if/when it gets rear-ended at a high speed differential.
@something_unique_and_descripti...: Most Zondas use the 7.3L AMG unit, but the original C12 used the 6.0L M120 the later engines are based on. The original C12S used a 7.0L AMG variant. The C12S 7.3, GR, Monza and Cinque all run the 7.3, but the Zonda R actually runs the 6.0L V12 originally used in the Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR.
To think, yesterday I felt lacking in my knowledge of obscure Italian cars.
Though I did have to double check on the Cinque.
@P161911 probably shoudn't have: I know this comment is probably too late to be seen, but here goes: at the time that DB built this one, it had a driver and front passenger bag, along with seat belts front and rear that had a stake to cinch the belts in place during an accident. The belts fired at the same time as the bags. The "all bags, all the time" approach wasn't until the '00 cars.
Edit- the doors on the later 140's did have side impact bags.
Impressive... could be the most comfortable LeMons racer ever - set the climate control, punch up your favorite New Age CD while you're driving so you can get all Zen-like, and cross your fingers that it doesn't get voted into the People's Curse.

Shame this one is only good for track duty in this country, because it looks like a really clean example.

I also hope the V12 badging ends up on Murilee's Civic.

Got it. I guess because I've been ogling the homebrew monsters...the Z600 is something I'll never forget, I figured a cell was required.
