But he does have a Yellowbird, so he's definitely faster than me.

So, $233 large in '87 money is $435,981 in 2008-bux, according to the official inflation rates. What's a Yellowbird go for these days? I'd say $7-800k would be Nice Price.

But I digress. I'm more concerned with those videos giving me perma-pants-tent lasting more than four hours.

For browsing at work, that is. The pants issue is yours alone to resolve.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, but there's something that's being lost, year after year, as we insist on making cars bigger, heavier, softer, more comfortable, safer and more refined. It's the older cars like this that are my personal car pr0n.

Simplify. Then, add lightness.

I was watching Bullrun this morning, and contemplating how the VW Bus, with a ~150 hp engine, could be competitive with, say, the Lexus, with 350 hp. Yeah. Pound-for-pound, the VW is actually more powerful, there is that much of a weight difference. That's sad.

When doing the math, I just used the stated specs on the first episode, and then the listed curb weight I could found using the Oracle. I can't remember what the stat was, but I think they said it was a IS350... and I thought they just had a tiptronic. But I didn't pay that much attention.

The closest I've come to "cooking" anything in my car is just making Cup o' Noodles by parking a water bottle on my (black) dash and leaving the windows and top up for a few hours. It actually gets it to about the same temperature as two minutes in a microwave, so my noodles didn't even end up crispy or anything. I think I'm going to try poaching an egg in a muffin tin next.

I remember Jamie Oliver or similar trying to cook in the back of a Westfalia or something going around the track, but I feel like they wrapped something in foil and put it under the bonnet... hmm, looks like I have a lot of Top Gear to rewatch!

Closest I got was when a friend left a McFish sandwich under my passenger seat, completely unbeknown to me. I then proceeded to leave the car in the sun for a week...
...that was unpleasant...

And the picnic talk is really tempting. English Jalops, fancy descending upon Hyde Park? Or Top Gear Test Track?

Also, they mentioned a book on Volvo Club, although they got the name wrong. It's actually called "Manifold Destiny" and it should be required reading for every true Jalop. I'll have to see if I can dig up my copy for anybody who wants to check it out :)

Pffft, sticky tires...

That is an awesome car. Back when Porsches were raw and proper, and AWD was for pussies.

I'm too lazy to go all the way to our lab to grab a PS3 but I have a PS2 and GT4 (plus 2 copies of GT3 for some reason) handy at my desk :-)
