Okay, that guy in the top video is NOT a very good driver. That much steering input and that much oversteer is not good technique.

But he does have a Yellowbird, so he's definitely faster than me.

@long_live_the_E36: On a 911 of that vintage, without Porsche's electronic nannies of the last 2+ decades, the degree steering input used is necessary to keep it on the track.

Unreal. His hands were moving non-stop. Even on the straights.

So, $233 large in '87 money is $435,981 in 2008-bux, according to the official inflation rates. What's a Yellowbird go for these days? I'd say $7-800k would be Nice Price.

Damn. I need a smoke. About 100 lbs less weight than my car, but about twice the horsepower. Do. Want.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, but there's something that's being lost, year after year, as we insist on making cars bigger, heavier, softer, more comfortable, safer and more refined. It's the older cars like this that are my personal car pr0n.

@FLB: Aside from Lotus (obviously), it seems like Audi is the only one making any kind of effort in that regard.

I was watching Bullrun this morning, and contemplating how the VW Bus, with a ~150 hp engine, could be competitive with, say, the Lexus, with 350 hp. Yeah. Pound-for-pound, the VW is actually more powerful, there is that much of a weight difference. That's sad.

@NewbiusMaximus: Maybe you haven't followed the news for the last year or two. Audi is the only major manufacturer who are undergoing an intensive program to decrease the weight of each successive generation of their cars. I believe their goal is for the next generation of each of the A4, A6 and A8 to be 10 - 15% lighter than they currently are.

When doing the math, I just used the stated specs on the first episode, and then the listed curb weight I could found using the Oracle. I can't remember what the stat was, but I think they said it was a IS350... and I thought they just had a tiptronic. But I didn't pay that much attention.

The Yellow Bird. This was an amazing car. Light and fast. This car had p***y magnet paint, and it really did attract p***y. This car was and is pure tuner at it's best. RUF did a great job on this car. 212 mph? Absolutely insane compared to a F40. This is one of my favorite cars in history. I leave you with a picture of this icon of car history.

@Gutpunch McRodbender, a strolling player's understudy: another thing we must do for this epic picnic - cook the food on the engine! Well, depending on the length of the drive, at least heat it up. I have a 42 mile (each way) commute, and I've always wanted to cook my lunch on the way to school but haven't gotten around to it so far. I think it would just be so appropriate for the picnic, right? :)

@Gutpunch McRodbender, a strolling player's understudy: I'm pretty sure they did in one of the earlier seasons. I believe their guest was a celebrity chef of some sort.

The closest I've come to "cooking" anything in my car is just making Cup o' Noodles by parking a water bottle on my (black) dash and leaving the windows and top up for a few hours. It actually gets it to about the same temperature as two minutes in a microwave, so my noodles didn't even end up crispy or anything. I think I'm going to try poaching an egg in a muffin tin next.
