@EffieGodinka: Ok, you tell me why this car is better than a $31K LS3 Camaro SS? The obvious one is MAYBE looks. People seem to like the Challenger's styling over the Camaro.
@Illegal_Machine:Seems rather funny to me that the Challengers are selling like hotcakes but are being compared to an overhyped unavailable vehicle, can you say GTO.
@EffieGodinka: Over hyped like a 425hp Hemi that can barely pull a 13 second quarter mile....for $42 grand....PLUS mark up?
It's easy to get a car out if you just take an existing car (Charger SRT-8, etc) shave 2 doors off and keep the same interior, auto slush box and motor in it.
The Challenger has been a huge perfomrance let down, it's too fat and is wayyy too expensive.
@Illegal_Machine: From all the SRT cars, I haven't seen much consistency in back to back runs.
I saw an SRT 300 make a 12.9 pass, then make a 13.2 Then watched an SRT Magnum run a 13.2 then a 13.6
So far, Ive only seen the one SRT Challenger at the track, and it ran the 13.2 at 100something mph. So I wouldn't be surprised to see posted times of a few tenths above that or a few tenths below that.
It was an automatic car too, so the 6-speed version will offer up some opportunity to shave down the times as well.
In all, the car performs to what I expected it to, similarly to the SRT 4-doors.

@jimclarkfan81: Be a real rebel. You Americans with your Drag Strips and Nascar, get some real automotive experience. Drive something British. You'll be the king of the road in a Triumph. Or better yet, pay your local towing firm to drag around something British, which would be the closest thing to a drag strip you'd actually see.
How much of a premium over the regular R/T are you paying for the stripes and the hood scoops? Because unless it's only a couple hundred bucks, it's not worth it.
@elwood: That was my first thought too...I think the base R/T stickers for just above $30k, which makes a $4k premium for low restriction exhaust, hood scoops, and pretty stickers seem kind of ridiculous
Great, they've put a striped shirt on the fat girl. Please note that stripes really aren't slimming, people are just telling you that to make you feel better.
@pres: The Black paint works a little, but yes. Its still a fat ass when she stands next to her hot Mustang freinds. Even though she would still give a great ride!! HA!
@jduffy13: I agree. It looks good until you park it next to something a little less portly. I was sitting at a red light on Outer Drive the other day next to one and my Mustang felt downright puny next to it.
@jduffy13: I watched one park in Jersey City on Tuesday night and was amazed how ginormous it was. When I think muscle car, I don't think this kind of excessiveness.
@graverobber: Fine Corinthian Pleather: I actually thought the opposite. It's a car that photographs well, but in person looks ridiculously huge. They need to try again. Same car, make it again, set photocopier to 75%, do that.
I've seen a whole bunch of them now, and they are massive, hulking beasts... and they're way too heavy to be a sports car. I chased one on the highway at least once a week during September and October, and with, what, 1.5x my horsepower, he can't get away from me. I'm not a big fan of a Shelby GT500KR, but credit where credit is due, that sucka can get away from me, no problem whatsoever.
@graverobber: Fine Corinthian Pleather: No, this car just looks like a marshmallow. I'm not threatened by fatty when I look at the edgy Camaro, lean and mean.
@racerx: Agreed. I have video proof somewhere that my VW will do 0-100 km/h in 5.5 with a bad launch. I can't get too tingly in my naughty bits for those numbers, particularly considering I could pull a U-turn at speed at the end and come back down the strip, where the Challenger would just slide, roll and crash.
@racerx: I freely admit I should proofread before hitting "submit". Should have read 6.5, not 5.5. Big difference there.
But what have I done? Upgraded "Stage IV" supercharger and pulley kit, including a port and polish, resulting in a boost increase from about 8 lbs to about 15. I've got a Porsche fuel-pressure regulator, a Neuspeed boost controller, port and polish on the head, upgraded fuel injectors, an Audi intake and racing cam I know nothing about (previous owner bought them), a custom remapped ECU chip, H&R sport springs and Bilstein shocks, and a Quaife LSD. I tried an upgraded ignition system, but it actually made things worse, not better. So far, probably around $11k into the engine.
Still a lot of bugs to work out. New boost hoses are step one, because if I push it too hard, they tend to come apart. Not something you want to have happen on the highway when you pull out to pass.
@crewcutkid: Don't jump to conclusions. Some of us actually do spend a significant amount of time and money on hot-rodding cars. Although I should have typed 6.5, not 5.5, which kind of destroys my own credibility
I think the video is on my photobucket, but photobucket is blocked from work. I'll check when I get home.

376 HP 402 ft-lb to get under a 6 second 0-60? That's pathetic, and not worth anywhere near $35k.
This needs to be 30-32k, and the RT (which can barely keep up with a Mustang GT) should be $24-27k.
I'm willing to bet the V6 Camaro could give this thing a run for its money. That would be the $24k V6 Camaro.

Shit, that UN-friended you. That's not what I meant... no... no, come back... crap. Javascript error? What? Jezebel? How'd I get back onto Jezebel?
DAMN YOU CHRYSLER!
01/16/09
Uh oh, we've lost him to Jezebel again.
I hate it when that happens.
And on that note, I think we ought to send out a search and rescue team for Ash; I haven't seen him return since his incursion into Jezebel.

But when I was riding beside it, it looked odd. Not terrible, just weird.
When I was behind it, I thought it was awful.
