Usually you don't see acceleration figures like that outside of the Pro Modified brackets, or maybe the Nimitz portside catapult. I'm willing to give it a spin.
1000 hp per tonne does not equal 1000 hp per ton. British tons are wonky, last I knew. Besides, with 500 HP and a curb weight of 500 kg, that equates out to about 900 hp per good ole American ton. Expressed in a way that we Yanks can comprehend, thats roughly 2.2 hp per pound.
And how do you get "much, much faster" than a 3 second hop, skip, and jump from 0 to 60? At some point you approach "instantaneously".
@AES: Mazdaspeeding Canuck: Let me introduce you to my little friend, the asymptote. He says, the closer you get to him, the harder you have to work to get any closer!
@Ash78: I came into this thread thinking I'd be so clever with a comment about the Atom and Clarkson's face. And, behold, I've been beaten to it. Multiple times.

I was out at the autocross a couple weekends ago and one of the guys had an atom 1, I start chatting to him about them and he tells me that it's not legal for road use in Canada due to the DOT regulations.
WHAT A FUCKING PISS OFF!
I meen seriously, a guy can buy a kit cobra and put a 1000HP engine in it and kill him self cause he only has a lap belt or a Caterham 7 and do the same thing. But they won't let us buy a full car from a manufacturer because there arn't enough of them to get DOT approved.
Atoms are the most stunning cars ever built, with their modern minimalist design and we can't have them.

What would yield a roughly-equivalent power:weight figure? An Escalade with a top fuel Hemi?

And damn the preview for showing most replied instead of most recent.
Jalop is like gas prices. I love to bitch, but there's not much I can do. I can't just "use less Jalopnik," dammit. THIS IS AMERICA!*
