Bugatti Veyron Ticketed In California Going 210 MPH+ |

Typical young rich kid with a sense of immortality going for kicks on public roads. I really want to see the Judge's reaction to this one. I hope he gets Judge Judy!

I am NOT at all surprised that this occurred on the 73 tollroad in Orange County, what I'm surprised at is the fact that there were CHP on the 73 FWY at all. I've never seen a chippie on that particular stretch of road. Back in the day, I used to go out there at 2 or 3 am and do my "autobahn" runs since the freeway was dead empty. He obviously wasn't doing his speed run late enough at night.
Idiot.

Can't get much more juvenile than this....

A $500 fine is merely the entry fee. Here in Ontario, I'm fairly sure you get the death penalty for going that fast.

23103. (a) A person who drives a vehicle upon a highway in willful or wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property is guilty of reckless driving.
(c) Persons convicted of the offense of reckless driving shall be punished by imprisonment in a county jail for not less than five days nor more than 90 days or by a fine of not less than one hundred forty-five dollars ($145) nor more than one thousand dollars ($1,000), or by both that fine and imprisonment, except as provided in Section 23104 or 23105.

To start with, if he really was going that fast, he's an idiot for pulling over. He could have been off that toll road and off the freeway safe and sound before the CHP officer could have called for backup.
Also, I have never once seen a CHP officer on any of the toll roads around here. The only way this makes sense is if he didn't have an electronic toll pass, decided to blow through that lane anyway to skip the toll and traffic, and was unfortunate enough to get his license plate snapped by the cameras there, and get the ticket mailed to him later.
In any case, something tells me that this is a fake.
No matter which way you look at it, this guy's an idiot, and if the ticket is real, he deserved it.
Also, driving at speeds of over 100mph qualifies for reckless endangerment, which is a much more serious penalty.

That or some awesome cop wanted to see if his superiors were actually reading the tickets they were writing.
Somewhere in Europe, Prawo Jazdy just got a ticket.

If you've got the money to buy a Veyron, you've got the money to pay just about any speeding ticket that might be coming your way. Why seek out the extra headache from not pulling over?
But yeah, all that aside, I would be completely unsurprised if it turns out to be fake.

You can't outrun the radio, son.
Or at least that's the most appropriate quote I can remember that summarizes why he likely pulled over for the ticket.

This is certainly true, but there are cars that can outrun the CHP. Assuming this is real, and the guy really was going 210mph, then there is no way that the CHP officer that first saw him caught up to him.
In order to catch him, the first CHP officer had to send a radio message in to control, which control relays to other cars that are in the area. Included in this message is information not only on the vehicle and speed, but also estimated direction, destination, etc.
Unless there was another CHP officer that coincidentally happened to be at the end of that toll road at just that moment, then he could very easily have slipped off the freeway out of sight, laid low for a while, and then went about his merry way.
While there is no car that can outrun the old motorola, there are a fair few that can outrun the reflexes of whomever is operating the motorola.

i think this snap from his own flickr profile answers your questions:

I got pulled out in the middle of nowhere at like 1 am, I was doing triple digits, over double the limit, but because I pulled right over when I saw the distant lights in my rear view rather than darting off onto the side roads where he wouldn't have had a chance of catching me, I got a ticket for 19 over ($120), instead of a reckless driving, 90 day license suspension, minimum $1,500 fine, and a night in jail.

And he's lucky he dosen't live in Finland, where a percentage of your income is taken away for tickets. Yeah Scandinavian Socialism!

It's not that they take a percentage of your income. Every fine, even a $10 one is taking a percentage of your income, albeit tiny. What they do is calculate your fine based on your income level. The more you earn the more you pay. And I think it's a good idea.
In some countries, like Portugal, if you get fined you have to pay the ticket on the spot. Needless to say it makes getting pulled over a huge inconvenience.

Anyone know a place where I can pick up a slightly dinged up 200mph supercar? I feel the need to beat this guys ticket.
