Well off center stage where the Roush 427R was unveiled there sat a bright red 2010 Mustang with a snazzy new nose. Since it wasn't even hinted at in the main presentation we sought out some Roush folks to key us into this other car. According to Roush designers, it's a car made up of bits which were considered for the 427R but axed as a matter of cost constraints. Just because the parts on this car didn't quite make it doesn't mean they won't be available, they're testing the market to gauge interest on the black billet grille and scooped and louvered hood.

The replacement of those two parts act to clean up the nose of the Mustang and give the whole car less heavy appearance. The scoop eliminates the power dome and pulls the shape of the nose forward, serving to more evenly distribute the visual heft of the car. Seeing as how they look so at home on the 2010 Mustang we wouldn't be surprised to see these parts available as options on the 427R or standalone aftermarket parts.

<![CDATA[2010 ROUSH 427R Mustang: Live Unveil Of The New 435 HP Boy Racer!]]> We're live-blogging the 2010 ROUSH Mustang 427R reveal here in Livonia, Michigan. Hit the jump for the first pictures of this svelte new boy racer.

The day is finally here: The 2010 ROUSH Mustang bows it's pointy head and shows itself to the world.

The notable features of everyone's favorite custom pony includes 435 HP, 400 lb-ft o' torque, no gas guzzler tax for manual transmission cars, a ROUSHcharger available at launch and a very functional aero package. The Stage One starts at $34,847, Stage Two begins at $36,221 and the Stage Three 427r kicks off at $43,051.

We recently reviewed the 2009 ROUSH Blackjack, which represented the top of the line as far as ROUSH customs go. While our final impression was ROUSH did the best they could with a failing platform and ultimately left with a reasonably good car - the new ROUSH promises to be a whole different beast; especially now that the interior is fit for real, live adults. The production volume for the 427r is estimated to be 2,000 units per year - and the first two months are already sold out. Look for our First Drive of this latest iteration of a legend in the coming months.

Full press release below:

The ROUSH 2010 427R™ Mustang will be the first in the lineup of new ROUSH® 2010 Mustangs to have a ROUSHcharger® installed which boosts the horsepower to 435 and offers 400 lb.-ft. of torque. This is the first time that ROUSH has been able to offer a supercharged vehicle at the launch of a new body style.

Under the hood customers will see many differences in the ROUSH 2010 427R Mustang compared to previous years. One of the biggest changes is that the long air induction tube that wrapped around the engine was eliminated making a much cleaner appearance under the hood. The intercooler reservoir has more than twice the volume of previous generations, and the intercooler itself is a single core cross-flow radiator which means more efficient cooling. It is substantially larger than on prior model years, and is now raised higher off the ground which should offer much less potential for road debris damage. Even the hoses on the ROUSH 2010 427R have seen an upgrade; they are all now 100 percent molded rubber with abrasion resistance and have imprinted markings for things like the clamp locations. This makes for even more of a true OEM appearance under the hood, and ROUSH has taken this factory appearance to the degree of matching the Ford grain on the OEM radiator reservoir and duplicated it on the one used by the intercooler. Although much of the 4.6L, 3V powertrain components are a carryover from that used on the 2005-2009 ROUSH Mustangs, customers will notice much more refinement and OEM-level quality materials and appearance on the new ROUSHcharged™ engines. This new 427R™ is be covered by a 3-year/36,000 mile warranty.

The 2010 427R™ includes an appearance package which is comprised of several components such as a new front fascia and front splitter, rear fascia, side splitters, and a three-piece rear wing. The new rear fascia is a one-piece design which improves the fit and finish; the part is injection-molded by ROUSH Manufacturing in an OEM-level TPO plastic which, in the black color with decorative grain, will help reduce rock chips. The vehicle rides on 18-inch cast chrome wheels with high-performance Cooper Zeon tires, with a new 20-inch cast chrome wheel as an available option.

This package also includes an all-new suspension package to greatly enhance the handling of the vehicle and turn that daily commute into a slalom course. The ROUSH chassis engineering team has driven tens of thousands of miles on the streets and tracks to create the best blend of comfort and handling, and claim that this is the best suspension package they have come up with yet for the Mustang. A ROUSH wheel hop reduction kit will be included with all vehicles that have the upgraded ROUSH suspension package installed at the factory.

"I've driven every generation of ROUSH Mustangs and there is no question that these cars keep improving over the years. Our engineering teams never sit back and say,'That's it. We are done working on this now.' They continually refine the components, whether it is in the engine, suspension, or any other part of the car. They are always thinking and testing and improving and creating the ultimate Mustang for the muscle car enthusiast. I think that there is no doubt that the ROUSH 2010 Mustang is our finest effort yet," Roush stated, adding that he will shortly be using one as his personal vehicles while traveling the NASCAR circuit.

<![CDATA[ROUSH Propane-Powered Ford E-250: Econoline Gets Gassy]]> Like the idea of the ROUSH Propane-powered Ford F-150 and F-250 but need better compatibility with playgrounds and free candy? We give you the ROUSH Propane-Powered Ford E-250. Prepare to jam Econoline with propane.

Just like the F-150 and ROUSH F-250 Propane, the E-250 uses Ford's 5.4-liter V8 and a retrofitted propane tank. Running the van on propane results in 18% fewer greenhouse gas emissions, 20% less nitrous oxide, 60% less carbon monoxide and no performance compromises. Of course, none of that matters if you're running a fleet of work vehicles and just want to cash in on cheap propane. We also hear young girls dig environmentally friendly vehicles, just sayin'. You know, if they don't want the candy.

The conversion carries a $8,995 premium, but qualifies for a $4,500 federal tax credit. Propane is typically cheaper than gas, especially if your fleet is buying it in bulk and fleet users can qualify for a further 50 cents per gallon tax credit on that fuel. Check out our review of the ROUSH F-150 Propane for full details on how all this works.

The press release follows:

PROGRESS TOWARD DETROIT'S "GREEN-COLLAR REVOLUTION"
ROUSH and PERC Shift Focus to Existing Green Technology to Make Biggest Impact Now

ROUSH® Performance, with support from the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC), today introduced two new alternative fuel vehicles available through Ford dealers in the United States and Canada.

The 2010 ROUSH propane-powered Ford F-250 and 2010 ROUSH propane-powered Ford E-250 both achieve lower carbon and greenhouse gas emissions due to the use of propane as an engine fuel. On average, propane fleet vehicles reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 18 percent; create 20 percent less nitrous oxide; produce up to 60 percent less carbon monoxide; and fewer particulate emissions, compared to conventional gasoline. These vehicles follow the introduction of the ROUSH propane Ford F-150 in 2007.

In development for three years, the new low-carbon, propane-powered vehicles will meet strict Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and California Air Resources Board (CARB) certifications, ensuring availability in all 50 states.

The introductions put ROUSH at the front of the "green-collar revolution" in Detroit, namely because of the decision to focus on propane which, as an alternate fuel, is available right here, right now.

"By focusing on propane, ROUSH has been able to engineer green technology that is proven to reduce emissions now," said Jack Roush, chairman of ROUSH Enterprises. "And the upside is that we are hoping to add nearly 100 new green-collar jobs."

According to PERC CEO and President Roy Willis, propane is already the most widely used alternative fuel on roads today, powering 10 million vehicles around the world. "Of all available alternative fuels," said Willis, "propane offers the best mix of vehicle range, durability, and performance. And the nationwide propane infrastructure can readily and affordably be expanded to provide easy access to refueling stations for fleets and the public."

The Ford F-150, F-250 and E-250 are based on the 5.4L, 3-valve Ford V-8 powertrain, each using a ROUSH liquid propane injection fuel system, including new fuel rail assembly and fuel injectors. The propane trucks sustain no loss of horsepower, torque, or towing capacity as compared to a comparable gasoline-powered vehicle.

With F-250 deliveries anticipated to start in the third quarter, ROUSH will make this vehicle available in two forms. Customers can choose either a complete ROUSH-assembled 2010 F-250 with a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty or conversion kit that fits the 2009 and 2010 trucks. The additional cost for a ROUSH-assembled F-250 is $8,995 and qualifies for a federal tax credit of up to $4,500. At the pump, propane prices per gallon are normally lower than gasoline or diesel, and with the proper infrastructure in place, a fleet user can qualify for a 50-cent tax credit per gallon consumed.

<![CDATA[2010 ROUSH Mustang Coming March 18th]]> ROUSH Performance wants you to save the date of March 18th. It's the day they'll reveal their 2010 ROUSH Mustang, but for the moment, they've decided to tease us.

This video, which eerily reminds us of the video at the entrance to Biff's Casino in Back to the Future 2, tells of the history and future plans for Jack Roush's favorite car, the Mustang.

By the time the 2010 Mustang hits showroom floors, ROUSH Performance expects to have a total of 35 performance aftermarket parts available; from their ROUSHcharger supercharger system that helps awaken the stock Mustang GT's output to a nightmarish 445 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque; full exhaust systems; brake upgrades; suspension systems and lower springs; larger wheel and tire packages; and interior/exterior accessories including a light bar for the convertible models.

After our own ROUSH Mustang Blackjack review last year, we're sure this one will attract a lot of unwanted attention.

Press Release:

ROUSH® Performance has always been a leader in the high-performance parts industry, but never before in the history of the company have they been this far ahead on developing parts for a new model car.

Starting in early March, ROUSH® will have 35 different parts available for the new 2010 Ford Mustang, right around the same time that initial deliveries of the vehicle begin showing up on the Ford dealer lots.

"I am very proud of how quickly our engineering teams have been able to develop these new products for the 2010 Mustang," said Jack Roush. "Ford has created a beautiful new car, and with the addition of the ROUSH® parts an owner can have a vehicle that performs just as nice as it looks. Its simply amazing to think that a customer can buy a ROUSH part for his new car the same time it is being driven off the transporter at the dealer lot."

Among the initial parts that will be offered by ROUSH®, are:

* Suspension Packages
* Brake Kits
* Resonator Exhaust & Tips
* Lowering Springs
* Interior Accessories – floor mats, sill plates, pedals and more
* Wheel / Wheel & Tire Packages
* Convertible Light Bar

The famous 445 horsepower, 400 lb.-ft. of torque ROUSHcharger® is expected to be available just a couple of weeks later in mid-March. As before, installation of this supercharger will not void any Ford factory warranty on the new Mustang. For those who really want to make their new pony gallop with the maximum horsepower, a non-calibrated version of the R2300 ROUSHcharger® will also be on the shelf around this same time.

For customers looking to enhance the exterior styling, the ROUSH® body kits and other painted components will be available for purchase in mid-April.

The ROUSH® high-performance parts program has been one of the highlights for the company. Even in the face of a challenging economy, the sales of ROUSH® parts still grew and had a record year. It is anticipated that the early availability of the 2010 Mustang parts will provide another boost to the program this year.

<![CDATA[Roush Propane-Powered F-250: Hank Hill-Approved]]> You've seen us cover the propane-powered Roush F-150 in all of its tire-shredding glory. Now, they've upped the ante with a medium duty F-250 running on the same BBQ fuel.

The Roush Propane line of F-series trucks is all about zero compromises, saving green and being green. Delivering no reduction in horsepower or torque, the kit actually saves companies a ton of cash through clever tax credits available to those who are chill with Mother Earth.

Starting at $7,995, the plug-and-play package lets you burn straight propane, exactly the same kind found in your BBQ 'round back behind the shed. Reports estimate a slight 10% to 20% nick in fuel mileage, but that pain is quickly eased by a massive $5000 federal alternative fuels tax credit per kit alongside a 50-cent-per-gallon tax credit on any propane purchased. With propane hovering around a dollar a gallon on the wholesale market, things start making sense mighty quick.

Full press release for you below:

ROUSH® EXPANDS PROPANE VEHICLE LINEUP WITH UNVEIL OF LIQUID PROPANE-INJECTED F-250 PICKUP

LAS VEGAS (January 22, 2009) - Hammering home their success in offering
a propane-powered truck, ROUSH® Performance unveiled yesterday at the
2009 International Builders' Show the next product in the lineup - the
2010 ROUSH Liquid Propane Injected F-250.

The ROUSH propane-powered F-250 immediately received considerable
interest among the attendees who had been looking for a medium-duty
truck that could offer both lower operating costs and greenhouse
emissions.

According to research provided by the Propane Education and Research
Council (PERC), propane is the most widely-used alternative fuel today,
with more than 10 million vehicles around the world using it as a fuel.
Operating costs typically range from five to 30 percent less than those
of a gasoline-powered fleet, and on average create 20 percent less
nitrous oxide, up to 60 percent less carbon monoxide and fewer
particulate emissions.

"We have had tremendous interest in the ROUSH propane-powered F-150
and sold several hundred vehicles and conversion kits, but more than
that we had people tell us that they would be much more interested if
there was a medium-duty pickup available," said Joe Thompson,
vice-president and general manager of ROUSH Performance. "With that in
mind, we went to PERC who has been our strong supporter in developing
propane vehicles and took the next steps to expanding the ROUSH lineup
with the F-250. It is gratifying to see that the response has already
been so positive."

With deliveries anticipated to start in the third quarter, ROUSH will
make this product available in two forms; customers can choose either a
complete ROUSH-assembled vehicle which will have a 3-year/36,000 mile
warranty, or a conversion kit to fit existing trucks in the field which
also carries the same warranty. The conversion kit will also fit 2009
F-250 pickups that may be in service.

The order banks for both the vehicle and the conversion kit, both of
which are true OEM-quality in terms of engineering and materials, will
open on January 26. Among the components changed are the fuel tank with
multi-valve fuel pump, stainless steel fuel lines, billet aluminum fuel
rails, an upgraded custom ROUSH PCM calibration, and all necessary
wiring, hardware and instructions.

The kit will have a retail price of $7,995, and qualifies for a federal
tax credit of $5,000. There are also a number of state, regional and
local tax credits and rebates available for the purchase and
implementation of alternative fuel vehicles. Additionally, propane
prices per gallon are normally significantly much lower than gasoline or
diesel, and with the proper infrastructure in place a fleet user can
qualify for a 50-cent tax credit per gallon used.

The ROUSH propane-powered F-250 will come standard with an in-bed tank
offering 62-usable gallons of fuel. This will allow a range of
approximately 500 miles depending on the chassis and driving habits. A
under-bed propane tank will be available (with a range of approximately
250 miles) for users where range is not as important as bed capacity.

There will be no loss of horsepower, torque or towing capacity on the
ROUSH propane-powered F-250 as compared to the truck's gasoline-powered
equivalent. The truck will have all federal, CARB and Canadian
certifications.

ROUSH has long been considered as Detroit's foremost Tier 1 advanced
powertrain engineering company and well known for producing massive
horsepower from gasoline engines. Now this same company has turned their
resources towards helping fleet customers save money and reduce
greenhouse gasses by utilizing propane as an engine fuel. The company
launched a propane F-150 in 2007 and has plans for several additional
vehicles over the next few years.

<![CDATA[2009 ROUSH Mustang Blackjack: First Drive]]> Driving the 2010 Ford Mustang GT, we discovered it was basically a tuner version of the old model. So how does the latest ROUSH Mustang Blackjack stack up to the factory version? Let's find out.

For 2010, Ford’s taken the old Mustang and bolted on nicer suspension, a new intake and exhaust, given it a more svelte body, a nicer interior and called it day. ROUSH has taken a slightly more aggressive approach, adding huge amounts of power, heart-stopping brakes and the blackest black-on-black paint scheme ever. But it’s the suspension that really makes a difference.

Cruising down I-94 at paralegal speeds, we slide over to the interchange onto I-696. The little yellow sign warns us to knock it down to 35 MPH, but everyone knows those are simply warnings. We toss the car into the left handed banked sweeper, but I get an immediate pucker-moment and my heart jumps into my throat. My sense of speed must have been off, we're rocketing around the embankment with the g-forces doing their best to pull our faces clean off. Surely, we've overcooked the turn and my time on this cruel planet is over. Can someone remember to feed my goldfish? But wait, nothing bad happened. No tire squeal, no crunch and I'm not eating dirt through the convertible top. The Blackjack took what seemed like a kamikaze corner without even sweating. Maybe Blackjack is code for black magic, as there is seriously some kind of witchcraft going on in the undercarriage. What seemed liked a simple spring/strut/swaybar hop-up package actually acted as a total revamp of the pony car's driving dynamics.

The ROUSH Mustang Blackjack is no mere sticker-and-fiberglass-only pretty kit. The engine is a supercharged 4.6-liter V8 producing 430 HP. The Stage 3 suspension, available on the entire line-up of ROUSH Mustangs, is a complete replacement, including reimagined struts, much tougher and lower springs, gigantic swaybars front and rear and a wheel-hop elimination kit. The brakes are a lesson in pure ridiculousness: the fronts are two-piece 14" rotors and four-pot calipers with a smaller slotted rotor and pad upgrade in the rear. The tires are absolutely massive BFG KDs, rivaling the rubber fitted to the 2008 Dodge Viper in both size and composition. The exterior is fitted with a seven-piece body kit and a mile-wide flat black racing stripe. The interior is the only place we find to be gravely lacking compared to the 2010 Mustang - The Blackjack only received some minor suede inserts and a shiny dash appliqué. For $62,000, we would've liked to see some grippier sport seating, as we flew into the center console and door panels many a time. The gun-bolt-like shifter was one of the best we've ever had the pleasure of rowing through, albeit a bit too tall.

The proof of this laundry list of go-fast parts comes in the driving experience. It's easy to sit street side and bullshit about who's got the bigger supercharger or the suedeist seats, but it is on the pavement where the Autozone customs are separated from the engineering masterpieces. Where the 2010 Mustang GT has picked up a couple of extra horses, a solid suspension upgrade and a cabin that doesn't make you bleed from the ears, it's still just an improved version of an aging chassis. For the Blackjack, this goes double. There are certain things you can't easily ignore, like the improperly geared 5-speed, far too soft clutch, portly sheetmetal and Fisher Price interior. Although these shortcomings can be remedied with cubic dollars, the price tag would be shot right past the already shocking $62,000 entry fee. If you're looking to buy your way into exclusivity, there are only 100 Blackjacks slated to be sold, so you've got the 2010 GT on that front.

The question you ask yourself is, "Do I really need 430 HP and a track-ready suspension in a silly, old chassis?" The answer is a resounding yes. This obscene ride is what American tuning is all about: Take a slightly apt set of wheels, remove all of the fluff while saving cost on the bits that don't make you go any faster and set it forth to destroy some namby-pamby ricer ass. Although there are some aspects we'd change in the pursuit of greater and greater speed, it's nothing the common enthusiast wouldn't be capable of taking care of himself in his own driveway. So if ridiculous is your middle name, the Blackjack may be the car for you.

<![CDATA[ROUSH Propane-Powered F-150: First Drive]]> Our gratuitous burnout ripping the tires to shreds demonstrates this ROUSH F-150 burns petroleum-based rubber. However, this very special pickup doesn't fuel up with pedestrian dinosaur juices like gas or diesel. Instead, it's powered fully by propane, the same thing powering a backyard grill.

Recently, ROUSH gave us a shot behind the wheel of an F-150 converted with the first ever propane kit system —a new complete plug-and-play propane conversion kit for 2007.5 and 2008 model years equipped with the 5.4-liter V8 engine. The installation kit includes a fuel pump, fuel injectors with matching fuel rail, a reprogrammed ROUSH ECU, all of the proper fluid lines and wiring and either an under-bed 25-gallon tank or the one pictured here that sits in the bed and holds 59-gallons. Installation can be accomplished at home with a reasonable set of tools in about eight hours.

So how does driving the propane-powered F-150 differ from the gasoline or diesel-powered model? It doesn’t. ROUSH's earth-friendly Ford drives, stops and steers exactly like its conventional cousin. Since this truck runs off liquid propane, starting the engine is as simple as turning the key. This is vital, as models from other manufacturers burn gaseous propane, resulting in issues with turning over in the cold; that wouldn't cut it up here in the Dirty Glove (Michigan, for the uninitiated) with our freeze-your-ass-off winters. Horsepower and torque numbers are supposedly identical to the gasoline-fed model, but we noticed a bit more pep. Cargo loading and tow ratings remain unchanged.

Mother Earth is all "Hell Yeah" about this truck as much as Hank Hill would be if he got his hands on one. Propane touts a much lower carbon footprint than gasoline, diesel, heavy fuel oil and even ethanol; the exhaust contains virtually no toxic compounds. Safety actually improves over the gas-fed truck: The propane storage tank is tested at six times the usual pressure to ensure you don't turn into a mushroom cloud on your way back from Best Buy. Try saying that about the fuel tank in your Camry.

All this namby-pamby greenwashing is fine and all, but let's talk economy. With propane producing fewer BTUs per gallon than gasoline, it's only logical to expect a hit in fuel mileage. After 615 miles of mixed driving, our truck returned a calculated 9.6 MPG, albeit with significant and prolonged hoonage practiced. Reports from other drivers agree highway mileage sits around 12-14 MPG when driven gingerly. Fuel is astonishingly easy to come by on the open road as every U-Haul, Airgas and the like all have the proper nozzle to dispense some clean burnin' goodness.

So, if it eats a bit more fuel than its conventional brother per mile, where are they hiding the savings? The cost of the complete kit starts at a suggested retail price of $8,595.00. Obviously, nobody's saving a buck there. Well, propane must be mighty cheap, right? Not quite: We paid $2.11 a gallon from the local U-Haul, which offered the most competitive pricing in the Detroit area. The simple fact is that, just like voting Republican, this truck doesn't make sense for Joe the Plumber and it isn't supposed to. If you take a look at the math from a fleet perspective, the numbers start lining up in attractive little rows. First, propane rings in at about $1.00 a gallon once you start purchasing at the wholesale level. Then, factor in the $0.50 per gallon tax credit offered by the Fed for using propane as a fuel in a road-going vehicle. The cherry on top of that financially-delicious sundae is the whopping $2,500 maximum tax credit allowed for each ROUSH Propane-fueled F-150 purchased. Suddenly, this mathematically-approved messiah brings the promise of flipping your bottom line from red to black while Joe gets to keep his job fixin' the pipes. [viaROUSH]

<![CDATA[NHRA Approves Roush Mustangs For Straight-Line Competition]]> The National Hot Rod Association has granted its approval to the 2008 Roush supercharged 4.6-liter V8 in the Stage 3TM and P-51ATM Mustangs. This marks the first time the NHRA has given the nod to an aftermarket powertrain; previous competition powertrains had to be as-delivered by the manufacturer. Depending on configuration and bodystyle, the Roush Mustangs will be classified between AA Stock and B Stock or SuperStock A and F. Look for the first Roush car coming from Haas, Carrothers & Wagner Racing; the team won three consecutive NHRA Division 3 championships from 2004-2006, and they're currently building a Roush Mustang with a Stage 3TM powertrain.

<![CDATA[Ford And Roush Sued Over Mustang BlackJack]]> Drew Connor has filed a class action lawsuit against Ford Motor Company and Roush Performance, claiming the companies defrauded buyers by building more Ford Mustang BlackJacks than originally advertised. Remember the Ford Mustang BlackJack? No? We didn't either. As one of the million or so Mustang variants, we had to go hunt down the details on the thing too. The car was a limited production run of 100 all-black 430 HP 'Stangs with a price tag of $58,000. Turns out the limited-edition run of 100 was per year over two years, so there's 200 of the cars running around. That's where the rub comes in.

Connor's class action is seeking damages of, get this, $11.8 million, or $1000 more per car than the value of all 200 cars sold. We're thinking Mr. Connor probably just didn't read the fine print well enough. That, or he just realized he bought a $58,000 Mustang — or maybe his wife just realized he bought a $58,000 Mustang. <![CDATA[Roush Mustang Stage 3 Suspension, Now Sold Separately]]> Good news for 2003 through 2009 Ford Mustang owners that don't want to throw down $21,000 on a complete Roush Stage 3 kit: The suspension alone is now available separately for just $1,449, meaning it's now affordable to make your 'Stang handle. The complete kit is a direct replacement for the spongy stock suspension, lowers the car 1", and includes springs, dampers, jounce bumpers and anti-roll bars. Full details follow the jump.

ROUSH® STAGE 3™ SUSPENSION AVAILABLE TO ALL MUSTANG OWNERS WHO WANT TO PULL Gs

LIVONIA, Mich. (July 31, 2008) - One of the things that sets the ROUSH®
Stage 3™ Mustang apart from the competition is the road-hugging,
highly-tuned suspension package. Previously, this vaunted suspension
package was only available as part of a ROUSH Stage 3 vehicle build, but
now anyone with a 2005 to 2009 Ford Mustang can feel what a 1G lateral
skid pad rating can give you on the daily drive.

Developed by some of the top chassis engineers in the industry, the
ROUSH Stage 3 Suspension Package is the result of hundreds of hours of
testing and thousands of miles on both the street and racetracks across
the country. Tests, including slalom, lane change, skid pad, and were
performed on a wide variety of road surfaces to provide the best
combination of ride comfort and road handling. Data was captured and
evaluated using a DIVAS Data Acquisition System, the same equipment used
by the Ford vehicle engineers. Overall, it took more than six months of
non-stop research and development to create one of the finest
suspensions available today.

The complete kit includes springs, dampers, jounce bumpers and
anti-roll bars which work together in harmony and provide optimum
performance on the street or track. The suggested retail is $1,499.00
(part number 401761), and when installed will lower the car
approximately one inch for a more aggressive stance. All instructions
and necessary OEM-grade hardware is included.

The front anti-roll bar is more than 45 percent stiffer than the stock
unit and is a solid material, unlike most others on the market which are
hollow. This helps to significantly reduce body roll, and ROUSH takes
the additional step to forge and machine the bar ends so that all the
joints are parallel and surfaces match for joint integrity. The rear
anti-sway bar is also solid and is heavier to help balance the vehicle
and remove some of the understeer that is a characteristic of the
Mustang.

The twin-tube shocks have a unique valving and will keep the maximum
tire contact patch on the ground, even while driving over uneven
terrain. They were developed in part with an advanced 7-post shaker rig
like many of the NASCAR teams now utilize to hone their chassis setups.
Like all the metal components in the Stage 3 Suspension Package, the
shocks are powder coated for corrosion resistance. The springs
themselves are cold wound and made from high chrome silicone steel. They
are pre-set so they won't sag.

The ROUSH engineers paid particular attention to the bushings and
jounce bumpers, areas other companies tend to overlook. The bushings,
though stiffer than OEM, are a bit softer than other third-party pieces
which allows for more compliance over low speed bumps. There is a unique
spiral groove cut in the front and rear bushings which helps to keep the
grease in place and quiets the unit. The jounce bumpers were actually
designed to act as a spring assist, and are constructed from an
OEM-quality, micro-cellular material.

"ROUSH has always been known for being the best in powertrain
components, but we also have some of the most knowledgeable chassis
engineers in the auto industry on staff," said Jack Roush. "I
continually challenge them to design suspension pieces that offer
tremendous performance enhancements yet don't make sacrifices when it
comes to ride comfort. With the ROUSH Stage 3 Suspension Package they
have met this challenge, and even exceeded my expectations for what a
performance enthusiast would want on his Mustang."

The Stage 3 Suspension Kit works with any type of wheel combinations,
but for optimum performance it is suggested that the ROUSH RR03 forged
wheels (part number 402422) and ROUSHcharger™ be utilized as well. The
suspension was specifically designed with the weight of these components
in mind.

efficiency, higher volume capacity, and higher operational speeds.

"The gloves are off for the specialty tuners to get really creative
with a ROUSHcharger now," said Joe Thompson, general manager of ROUSH
Performance. "We're excited to see what some of these guys can do
with the new TVS2300 ROUSHcharger and really explore the type of
performance that this new unit is capable of. We've heard some numbers
from a couple of exploratory installs already and I must say that they
are very impressive."

The complete kit with a ROUSH-backed 3-year/36,000 mile engine warranty

<![CDATA[Roush Crate Powertrain Provides Engine, Tranny; Crate Car Still Unavailable]]> For folks who want a high-po old-school ride with a minimum of effort, Roush will now sell you one of their crate engines matched to an aftermarket performance transmission — and they'll do all the fine-tuning and dial in for you. You'll need to be a Blue Oval fan in order to take advantage of the aptly-named "Ford in a Ford" program, but we're pretty sure this is exactly what your old Mustang needs. Or at least one of us does. Look for the first application, a 511SRFE engine in a 1963 Galaxie, to debut at the Goodguys PPG Nats in Columbus, OH this weekend. Full release after the jump.

ROUSH(R) NOW OFFERING COMPLETE CRATE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION PACKAGES FOR SEAMLESS INSTALLATION

LIVONIA, Mich. (July 7, 2008) - Street rod enthusiasts and car builders have traditionally had their share of issues mating the transmission to the engine in a project car; either one or the other would install smoothly, but rarely both would work in tandem without a lot of additional work.

ROUSH(R) Performance has solved this problem with the introduction of the "Ford-in-a-Ford" powertrain package which includes a powerful ROUSH crate engine perfectly matched to a complete aftermarket performance transmission. All hardware, calibrations, and everything needed for a seamless installation is included.

The first application was installed in a 1963 Ford Galaxie which paired a ROUSH 511SRFE engine with 525 horsepower and 575 lb.-ft. torque to a Ford 4R100 four-speed automatic transmission. This car, and powertrain package, will debut at the 11th Annual Goodguys PPG Nationals in Columbus, Ohio on July 11 to 13.

Bob Corn, a former Ford engineer who now works at ROUSH, is the project manager of the package development which will eventually include both short and tall deck small-block engines. During his tenure with Ford, which ran from 1962 through 1981, Corn was instrumental in developing several of the now-legendary Ford engines, including the 427 which is often heralded as one of the most instrumental in automotive history. His background and knowledge made Corn a natural choice to help ROUSH Performance bring a complete powertrain package to market, a product offering unmatched by anyone else.

"As we looked around there was nobody that offered a complete engine powertrain package that was just 'plug and play,' to borrow a computer term," said Corn. "What ROUSH is offering the car builders is a complete kit with a recognizable and proven engine, mated with an industry-leading transmission. All the parts are included in the ROUSH kit - things like the calibration, electronics, throttle position sensor, torque converter and everything that will be needed is already part of the package and all designed to work together and drop right into the chassis. ROUSH is doing all the hard work on the powertrain so all the customer has to be concerned about is the actual car build itself."

Although the 511SRFE engine was the model used to develop the concept, ROUSH will soon offer a complete line of engine and transmission packages that can fit a wide variety of applications.

<![CDATA[Roush Horse Trainer Is A New Kind Of Pony Car]]> No, this Roush Horse Trainer isn't powered by the pony up front. It's designed to be a sort of mobile corral, allowing trainers unprecedented access to a moving race horse. Built for Kurt Systems, a Turkish camel and horse racing equipment provider, the Trainer encloses a horse in its booms, steering it in the same direction as the vehicle using reins connected to the front wheels.

The large passenger enclosure has space for a trainer and veterinarian in addition to the centrally mounted driver. They can monitor heart, blood, oxygen and fitness levels as the horse walks, trots or even gallops.

The vehicle itself uses Ford F-150 suspension and a Volvo five-cylinder turbodiesel (hey, that sounds like a good combination, Ford). It can safely control a horse at up to 37mph.

<![CDATA[Roush Vent Gauge Pods Makes Adding Gauges Somewhat Classy]]> Are you that guy? You know, the guy with big, gaudy and ugly gauges all over the dash and door molding? I don't judge you because the fact that you have so many gauges, sometimes people need to actively monitor other systems not included in the stock gauges, I just judge you because the placement of said gauges. Roush has a solution for owners of any 2005 to 2008 Ford Mustang or 2004 to 2008 Ford F-150. These gauge pods from Roush fit inside of the vents in the cooling/heating system of the Mustang and F-150 and hold any gauge you could ever dream of.

The vent gauges require no drilling and don't obstruct a substantial amount of airflow, either. The $30 price tag simply includes a pod that fits in the Mustang or F-150's vent. The pod can then hold a standard 2 1/16-inch gauge of your liking. [Roush]

<![CDATA[2008 Dodge Challengers Hanging Out At Roush With All The Cool Kids]]> A reader over at CarScoop managed to catch a pair of production-looking 2008 Dodge Challenger muscle cars hanging out at Roush, tuner of most things Ford. There are a couple of interesting things going on here. First, there don't appear to be any racing stripes, which could lead you to think these aren't SRT8's, though we think they are. Second, they're hanging out in front of Roush.

Is this a couple of engineers with Challengers paying a visit to mock Roush and their Mustang entrant into the Muscle Car Wars? Is Roush going to be tuning the next generation of Challengers? Did the drivers stop to take a leak? We don't know, but we're happy to speculate. Nope, unfortunately not. You see, this is Roush Industries, not Roush Performance. That's like an entirely different company and stuff. (UPDATE: The company pictures is not Roush Performance, but Roush Industries. Both are part of the same company, but the former tunes Stangs while the latter is a parts supplier)[Oot via CarScoop]

Press Release:

ROUSH CONTINUES THE HOMAGE TO FORD HISTORY WITH 428R* MUSTANG

LIVONIA, Mich. (September 24, 2007) - ROUSH Performance continues to pay tribute to Ford's legendary history with the 428R* Mustang, a limited edition pony car which follows in the tremendous success of their 427R* model introduced last year and which remains in the ROUSH product lineup for the 2008 model year.

"The 427R* is easily the most popular Mustang model that ROUSH has ever introduced to the market," said Joe Thompson, ROUSH Performance's vice president and general manager. "That vehicle will remain the cornerstone of our lineup, but to celebrate Ford's history of automotive breakthroughs we will build a 428R* in 2008 and a 429R* in 2009. These cars are intended to be a collector's edition with limited production that pays respect to Ford Muscle Car history."

The 2008 ROUSH 428R* Mustang is limited to 200 vehicles, each a potent street slayer with 435 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. of torque thanks to the famous ROUSHcharger* system, which, in the 428R* is a chrome powdercoat which glistens when the hood is raised. Each vehicle comes with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Jack Roush. The ROUSH 428R* is available with either a five-speed manual or automatic transmission.
