Arguing whether the M3 or CTS-V is better is like arguing whether you'd rather have sex with Megan Fox or Jessica Alba. Sure you might prefer one over the other, but if the other one showed up on your doorstep you sure as hell wouldn't kick them out. #cadillacctsv
I was taking it fairly easy as it was my second time on a track and I wanted to make sure I could drive home in one piece. I was there just to have some fun, maybe learn a little more.
Also, my run got the checker flag after only 2 hot laps for some reason which really screwed me up coming to the finish line.
I wish I had let Baruth drive my car. I think he would've had a much different result. #cadillacctsv
I wasn't particularly a Mitsubishi fan, and certainly could never see myself owning a Cadillac, but these past few days have, if nothing else, brought about a major shift in my opinions of both (and certainly changed my opinion of Jaguar & BMW), and in particular Lutz and Jalopnik/Wes.
Thanks to everyone involved, that was great.
Now I must excuse myself and continue my shopping for a used CTS-V..... #cadillacctsv
This is what's great about today's batch of performance cars. You've got big cars, small cars, V8s and fours, forced induction and normal, American, German, and Japanese, and when you throw them all on a track they are all within spitting distance of each other--almost certainly within the margins of varying driver skill. If you had pre-conceived notions going in about which car was the "best," you'll find evidence within these results to back up your claim. If you didn't, you can just sit back and enjoy the notion that such a wide range of carmaking philosophies can arrive at roughly the same performance conclusions. I'll take one of each. #cadillacctsv
@theeastbaykid: I've been preaching this very thing for a little while now to people who are constantly trying to argue this car is better than that car.. blah blah.. And if you can't drive it, the argument is even weaker. #cadillacctsv
I really think the whole thing was over-hyped. The outcome should not have surprised anyone. I still think a multi-car comparo in a magazine would be more representative of how the cars stand-up. #cadillacctsv
Give me a CTS-V to drive when the weather is good and an EVO to drive when the weather is bad and i'll be pretty damn happy. The rest of those companies that can't deign to respond to a challenge from a 77 year old man in a Cadillac can go screw.
Kudos to Mitsubishi for bringing a car they knew couldn't win but having the stones to stand by their product anyway. They certainly have nothing to be embarrassed about here.
Kudos to GM for doing something FUN! As Paul so elequontly stated already, fun has been sorely lacking in the automotive industry of late.
Finally, Kudos to Wes, and what appear to be, his vacuum sealed pants. #cadillacctsv
It really bugs me how Inside Line and others are trying to spin it as if BMW won.
If it were the original challenge and Wes beat Bob in a BMW, yes but they forget that the entire challenge concept changed. From Bob vs. Blog to an expanded CTS-V vs. World. And in either of those concepts the CTS-V still won hands down.
That kid Michael has amazing skill and potential. Yes this young guy beat nearly 80 year old Bob Lutz but he did not beat the CTS-V. I hope he does get some timed laps in the CTS-V. And by the sounds of his posts on the M3 Forums, maybe his next car will be a CTS-V. #cadillacctsv
Here's my favorite quote from his posts, and one that should be repeated more to help settle any "disputes" on what's the faster car.
"I can say one thing for sure I got to drive the CTSV and the M3 is NOT the faster car on the track. I am hoping to get some timed laps in the CTSV on monticello in the near future." #cadillacctsv
@BigEngineSmallCar: I have tremendous respect for the CTS-V, and my feelings haven't changed, but GM opened themselves up to the "M3 won" crowd by challenging all comers, and then by restricting professional drivers and handpicking the private owners who were allowed to participate. #cadillacctsv
@mentir: On the other hand, it also imbued the whole exercise with bonafide cred. Thanks to that M3, nobody can claim the competition was fixed. And the way it actually went down, Lutz failed to beat "all comers", but the Caddy didn't. #cadillacctsv
@beercheck: True, and don't get me wrong, the whole reason why this stunt had legs was because of the underlying virtues and competency of the CTS-V. #cadillacctsv
We need to know how much should be attributed to driver skill vs. the car.
Wes, how about you take a CTS-V out for a spin at Monticello and compare the time to what you got in the Evo.

It also makes me sad that the RS4 came in last... I'm hoping the driver was too nervous to push it. #cadillacctsv
