A lot of people are raging on it... let's see you do better. Yeah it's probably a deathtrap, but they built it... with what they had available. Let's see all the naysayers build their own car with crap they've got laying around without so much as a decent welder.
Just imagine what those guys could do with proper materials, proper tools, and access to CAD/CAM equipment.
@elwood: Engineering doesn't make for very watchable video. Even timelapsed it's just a bunch of guys sitting around crunching numbers and drawing lines.
BA, Hanibal, Face, and Murdock would be proud. Locked in the garage with only scrap metal and a welder the Brothers make a car to win the Tangshan GP and win enough prize money to save the orphanage.
BTW, are those DRUM brakes?!?! Is that a sliding pillar, ala Morgan, front suspension?!?!
SEVERAL RULES CHANGES WERE MADE FOR FORMULA 1 THIS YEAR. Including several meant to reduce the cost of entry into the sport.
Tyres: The move to slicks has already helped to increase passing and fan entertainment. For example, did you see all the cars spinning out at Malaysia?
KERS: No assessment has been made due to the limited use it has seen.
Engines: The move to using the engines for 3 rather than 2 races has cut development costs for entry-level teams. For example, Zhao Brothers racing has built an F1 car.
Aerodynamics: The new aero package has helped with passing some, and it has created the type of controversy that F1 loves.
Testing: Cutting the test allowance to 20,000 km has allowed entry level teams to be competitive. For example, the dominance of BrawnGP in its first two races.
Conclusions
While Zhao Brothers Racing must still pass the safety and speed tests for its entry, the very fact that a couple of hoons from small-town China are able to put together an F1 car from scrap proves how wonderful and insightful we are.
@Wankelin' For A Rotary: Jesus, dude. It's not like this thing is going for mass-production or something.
If your neighbor builds a t-bucket Ford while downing PBR, does that mean I'm going to stay the hell away from an American car?
Just because the Chinese build shitty cars as a whole doesn't mean there are still Jalop Chinese out there who have the balls to work on stuff like this.

I don't want to be anywhere near this thing. Especially not driving behind it. Rattled-off bits may puncture my tires. My nice, made in USA tires.

This article warms the cockles of my heart. I salute these brothers and wish them the very best.

Let's make a frame out of metals we have ZERO clue what the structural properties or purities are! BRILLIANT!
Let's drink while we're welding! BRILLIANT!
Let's drive our cars at 100+ MPH to see if the thing doesn't blow up! BRILLIANT!
All Hail Mao!
