Brings back fond memories of the Renault 12 wagon my Dad had when I was kid, in the U.S.! Seriously, I think I only ever saw maybe three other Renault 12 wagons on the read in the U.S. EVER! Then again, my Dad is famous for owning cars that only ten of were sold here. I think these guys have a good chance of making it. Our wagon, aside from one incident with a sticky carburetor linkage and contrary to American stereotypes was quite the workhorse and went on forever.... #renault

8 months in and they're still in Mexico, eh? I guess it probably does take a while to get replacement parts for a Renault that breaks down once per fueling stop. ;)

Makes me think of 'O Brother Where Art Thou' where they are told they'll have to wait till the replacement part (and his preferred hair pomade) ships in from out of town. His response, "Well, ain't this place a geographical oddity. Two weeks from everywhere!" #renault

This is going to completely show my lack of knowledge about South America and I am sorry for my ignorance. Does there exist a decent paved road with enough businesses like petrol stations, repair shops, etc nearby that is also safe enough to travel on from Argentina to the Southern U.S. of A border? Looks like a hoot and please visit Ithaca, NY! #renault

@87CapriceEstate: Yes. The Pan-American Hwy goes from Alaska all the way down to South America. There is the Darien Gap between Panama and Colombia where there is no road. These folks shipped their car from Colombia to Panama. #renault

Carlos y Samanta, you are my heroes. If you swing over our way, I'll put on a barbacoa for you!

And I thought driving a couple of hundred miles to look at a few houses yesterday was an accomplishment. Safe travels out there. #renault
