seriously, kill the W-body Impala and put the Chevy badge on a slightly redesigned G8... the Impala and Malibu share far to many similarities, size, power, interior appointments.

that would make me a happy man.

Leave the outdated floaty-boats to Toyota and Buick.

Nope, this is a dead issue. It will not come over until GM is forced to offload Holden. Then, and only then will we start seeing Australian Imports in their natural form.

GM will need to unload all of their foreign subsidiaries (with the exception of GM China, and GM Korea) in order for their "surgical" bankruptcy to ever get off the ground. Goodbye Opel, so long GM Middle East, nice knowing you GM Australia.

It started with Saab, and Fiat is looking at taking a controlling share in Opel, so we shall see.

As awesome as it would be for awesomeness' sake, I don't see enough of a market to justify porting the G8 ST to GMC or Chevy.

Others have already said it. Chevy G8. Or rename it Caprice/Impala/Chevelle/whatever. Christ, just call it the Chevy Awesome and be done with it.

Would it really be so awful/difficult to bring a few midsize platforms back to RWD?

I know fuel economy is a big deal, but I'm willing to bet they could get a Zeta-based Malibu to within a few MPG of a FWD Malibu.

Save the RWD for the Impala.

Two doors, AWD, six-speed, and maybe the DI V6 out of the Camaro.

    That would be bitchin'.

A Chevy Caprice (V6 and maybe V8 for the SS) is my guess. Shortly followed by a Buick and Cadillac and Saturn and Oldsmobile and... Oops, sorry I thought this was 1989.

GM would be stupid if they don't rebadge it as a Chevrolet. That and it would would be a dick thing to do, hanging Holden out to dry.

Oh god no don't do it. You just have to know that GM is planning a 4 door Camaro on the full length Zeta.

Actually either a Zeta based Impala or STS/DTS seem to be the most likely. GM had stopped future work on the Zeta platform. I thought they would hav just continued on with EpII and W in the future at this point. Actually why is there still work done on both W and EpII?

Too bad they didn't actually, y'know, do anything under the surface of the turd.

@FuzzyPlushroomanyte: That is why they should abandon W at this point and focus on EpII. They probably will not though since GM Europe is in control of that platform. I really don't see the place for both and the W has been around for what 20-25 years at this point.

You do know that the W platform is essentially dead, right? After this year, only the current Impala will be based on it, and probably not for long.

I saw a beautiful G8 GT today on my lunch break and it just made me sad. What a fantastic car and now its gone. If the idiots pooting around in their ugly and BORING Accord/Camry/Altimas had a clue I think the ending would be a different story for Pontiac.

    @TampaRon:

Seeing that when the G8 was released, the V8 was stuck with a slushbox, and the base was too underpowered to be fun to drive(comes with a stick? can't remember), only those too sissy to drive stick would go for the V8 GT. Yeah they finally got GXP out late last year with a proper tremec 6-speed, but by then everyone knew GM was on the brink of going bankrupt, and who in their f'n right mind would buy a car that might not have parts available very soon??

@chrnochime: It's an LS engine (there's, what, a few dozen of them in every junkyard in America), there are lord knows how many Holdens, Vauxhals, Chevys, etc. out there that share the platform... there will be parts. Even if GM goes tits up tomorrow I don't see parts obtainment being an issue... at least not by PCH standards.

Ok let's stop the wet dreams...the market for the ute would be exhausted in about 60 days. I say improve the interior and call it a Caprice...it would add some polish to Chevy and get some decent volume. It could make a nice Buick, but too close in market/size to the LaCrosse..nor does sit fit in the Cadillac line-up with the CTS.
