I was ready to come in here and say "in her defense I've driven with my headlights off without even realizing it". Then I remembered she was driving a Mercedes, not a '91 Prelude with mis-aimed headlights (they were aimed like three feet in front of the car) that you couldn't tell were on, on nights with a clear sky and a full moon.
@Turbineguy: Paris Hilton has been in Benzes long enough to know how to turn on the headlights-- then again other people drive her when she's wasted now.
You know what? I have decided something. Mercedes-Benz should only sell vehicles to people who know how to use them. All these coked-up celebrities are fucking up the reputation of a legendary carmaker. AMGs are amazing cars. Most of the hate applied to them comes because of the driver. So, now to drive a Benz, you must be able do the following:
1. Be able to start the car.
2. Be able to drive without texting.
3. Be able to use your turn signals.
4. Be able to not hit pedestrains.
5. Be able to drive at the speed limit.
(I didn't include turn on headlamps, because on Benzes, that is automatic.)
So now, you can walk into your local Mercedes-Benz dealer and not be surrounded by people like her.
When was she planning on figuring out how to work the headlights? Why does the R-class even exist? And if Toyota has had automatic headlight technology for 10+ years now why doesn't MB have it figured out?
@leavethegun-takethecannoli: Automatic headlights... that you have to activate? Seems like a pretty loose interpretation. My Silverado's headlights automatically turn on every time you flip the switch.
@TimTim: My '92 Buick Roadmaster had automatic headlights. What was very cool about the feature, though, is unlike all of the GM's with automatic headlights / DRLs I've driven since, you actually COULD turn off the headlights in the Buick (you had to flip a switch to disable them, otherwise the light sensor would turn them on when it got dark out). Very useful feature if you've ever gone to a drive-in movie and got there a little late.
@nataku83: My Olds had that as well, they called it the "Twilight Sentinel". I prefer the Volvo system the best, where the headlights are wired through the key so that you can leave the switch on and the lights come on when you turn the ignition on, and shut down when you switch it off.
My parents have also had various Chevy products with completely automatic headlights for some time now.
If you can't figure out how to drive your car, YOU SHOULD NOT BE DRIVING THAT CAR. I'd think that lesson is pretty simple, but I suppose that would make me wrong.
@TimTim: Cadillac has had automatic headlights since the mid fifties. Yes, you read that right, the mid-nineteen-fifties. They don't do much for improving the attentiveness or competence of motorists, though.

1. Hotter then
2. Hotter now
3. She has nicer "headlights"
5. She can turn me on
6. She can turn on her vehicle's headlights.
7. Did I mention "Hotter"?

My sister built something similar at school the other day.

For Mercedes, you have to set it to automatic. The Mercury was the same way.
