Is it just us, or is the 2010 Range Rover Sport starting to look awfully dated?
It's just you. Why fuck with something that's already beautiful. You're probably one of those loonies who said that the XJR looked dated when it was first released.
@Deartháir celebrates Anti-Pants Day: Just like the Porsche 911, you don't change a winning combination in the looks department. Despite their questionable reliability and watered down purpose, the Range Rover Sport is undeniably one of the best looking SUV's of all time.
@Deartháir celebrates Anti-Pants Day: The RR Sport looked outdated when it first came out. I always thought it never lived up to the Range Stormer's expectations.
We all know the only pretty Land Rover is the proper Range Rover.
@Miscellanea, 1-800-CASH-4-JALOPNIK-GOLD: That's pretty much my thinking too. The Range Rover looks like a proper sport-ute. It looks like a truck, but it manages to look sporty and powerful and sexy as well. I really dislike the bubbly over-inflated jellybean look that's infecting the SUV (sorry, what are they now, crossovers? multipurpose multipassenger all-weather cross-functional familial utility vehicles?) genre right now. They're not going to be sports cars, I fail to understand why carmakers keep trying to make them look like them.
@c0de DEMANDS layabout's return: I am in awe of our glorious leader. He is worthy of praise. He brings us luxury and offroad capability. I want to have Land Rover's babies.
@c0de DEMANDS layabout's return: Hasn't the Defender only been available as a kit car since the early 90s? Something about emissions or certification...
@Ash78: Probably only in the USA, I'm pretty sure it's still manufactured and sold overseas. At least i know for a fact i've seen one in the Land Rover showroom a year and a half ago in Lebanon.
I have been in numerous Defenders (sadly even the back seat of a police defender but that's a different story) and i must say, they are QUITE offroad capable in stock versions
@c0de DEMANDS layabout's return: Yeah, I've seen them in just about every other country pretty regularly. But here, it seems like you have to have really deep pockets to get your hands on one. (Defender)
My favorite comment/quote about the Defender is that it's the most common "first motor vehicle ever seen for the first time" (by indigenous people, etc).
You mean the exception to the Defender stereotype? I think this stereotype only exists in places (like the US) where the Defender is VERY hard to find--it hasn't been sold here in something like 20 years, except for imported kits. VERY expensive.
@Ash78: yeah, but I have a RR. Most Defender owners here use that butterfly chaser outfit, you know? Like Steve Irvin. But then, they use it while doing this:
/David Attenborough and Jeremy Clarkson bastard love-child
"The Range Rover Sport, with its new, evolved V8 Supercharged engine, is commonly spotted at night in urban landscapes with its xenon headlights prowling on helpless, smaller species such as the Toyota Prius and the Honda Civic. The Range Rover shows no mercy at all when it comes to its prey and has no regard for onlookers...
Here, we can see this fine example of a predator sneaking up s-l-o-w-l-y behind a smart car, clearly angered by its attitude. Now watch! As it goes straight for the neck of its prey and sink its teeth violently into the poor, helpless animal..."
The sad part is that the Defender meets your RR stereotype where I live. It's the "work 60 hours a week at the law firm and need something unique to take the kids to the Zoo on the weekend"

@zacarious: If you think that's bad wait till you see how that LRX thing will appear. The Stormer was one of the best things they could have made. Instead, they rolled out the same old thing.
At first glance, I thought the "NYC Auto Show" badge was the "Jalopnik Gold" badge and figured it was appropriate. Then I realized it wasn't, and I was saddened.
The ePRS (US Patent No. c11077983) translated the press release to this:
The 2010 Range Rover Sport with LR-V8 5.0 liter Supercharged making 510 hp and 461 torques.
Really, does anything more need to be said? Sure, there's another more budget-friendly version. Sure, they tout their greenness with reduced friction internals. Sure, there's some interior appointments that make it nicer than my house.
But really, they could stop at 5.0L Supercharged making 510 hp and 461 torques and people would not notice.
