It's funny how this car looks dowdy and lumpy at certain angles (front quarters, say), but almost sleek from others (side/rear).

The incongruous Continental kit makes it even better, I think.

I'm curious: does the spare wheel go up with the trunk lid when it is open or does it stay down?

    As usual: nice find Murilee!

The body, the dash, the seats, the continental kit, and the creamwall tyres. All matching.

That's what's missing from cars these days. Where are the old-Benz-style body-colour wheel covers? I'm hoping for a comeback.

@Ambiguously Strolling Player: I'm with you. I don't understand why modern cheap cars have black-painted steel rims with hubcaps that try to emulate alloys. YOU'RE NOT FOOLING ME! I say bring back wheels painted the body color and chrome dog dish hubcaps.

It would be interesting to try out those colors on some modern cars. Not everything needs to be irridescent metalflake whatever. Or maybe some of them do, to distract us from the ugliness.

Buick tried it in the late 80s, teal and silver on an 88 Leseber. not a great idea.

Ramblers are some of the best AMCs. And, I especially love the 58-60 MY wagons. Flathead 6 engines are definitely awesome.

@Ambiguously Unfunny Serial Killer: In May, my small town has an incredible car show....400 cars & something for everyone. The car show today is smaller, but a wide variety. There was a GT 40 replica there which was done nicely. I'm not big into street rods, but have a lot of friends who are. I like original bestest.

Gotta love that painfully accessible screw at the top of the tail light. And, remarkably, there's no big rusts cancers in that area, which is the one place you would expect it, even in Alameda, where they rust top down instead of bottom up.

This is a sincere car, nay, an earnest car. Plain and determined, except for that small flashy grille and subtle color coordination. What a beauty.
