It was a good year for Ford and no doubt, cost-responsible champagne will be flowing. However, we're definitely confused by this next part. Apparently TAWA also awarded the 2009 Dodge Ram "Full-size Truck of Texas," something which seems to directly contradict the idea of awarding the F-150 the "Truck of Texas."

The "Truck of Texas" award is given at the end of a juried voting process following an event lovingly referred to as the the Texas Truck Rodeo. Ford also took home awards for "Truck-Line of Texas," "Best SUV of Texas" with the Expedition King Ranch (which we didn't even know existed), and "CUV of Texas," (apparently a fairly new category) with the Ford Flex. But that's where things stop making sense.

Considering the F-150 is, you know, full-size and all, we're still confused with how Dodge towed away the full-size award. Then, just to pour gas on the conflagration of bragging rights confusion, the Dodge RamBox was awarded "Outstanding Truck Feature." So, we have a the F-150 as the "Truck of Texas" but apparently its not full-sized enough to be awarded the "Full-size Truck of Texas," nor does it have the best feature, both awards going to the Ram. Right. They sure do things strange down there in Texas, don't they? [Detroit Free Press]

<![CDATA[ 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 Likely To Get Five-Liter Cummins Diesel Option ]]> Rumors have been swirling of a new smaller-displacement Cummins diesel for the 2010 Dodge Ram 1500. But until now, nobody had any idea exactly what size the new oilburner would be. According to a sticker spotted under the hood of a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500, the new diesel will displace five liters. What we find particularly funny is that the sticker specifies the air-conditioning refrigerant charge for each of the Ram's available engines, but all the engines have the same charge specification, so the sticker doesn't really need to specify engine displacement in the first place.

The heavy-duty Ram 2500 and 3500 are currently available (and evidently will continue to be) with a 6.7-liter straight-six Cummins diesel; the new five-liter mill should be for light-duty Rams, to go up against GM's 4.5-liter Duramax diesel, Ford's 4.4-liter diesel, and maybe even a diesel V8 from Toyota. Whether or not Chrysler will be sharing this engine with Nissan as they are with the Hemi remains to be seen. Let the diesel muscle truck wars begin!

<![CDATA[ 2009 Dodge Ram, Reviewed ]]> We haven't had a chance in the saddle of the new 2009 Dodge Ram yet, but PickupTrucks.com guru Mike Levine had a chance to review and test drive pretty much every single version of the new hauler from the Ram-headed brand. Mike's put together a pretty exhaustive look at the whole lineup of all new Ram pickups, and what's his verdict?

"After driving several Ram models in a variety of scenarios, we're still as enthusiastic about the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 as we were when it was first reveled at the Detroit auto show. Most half-ton truck buyers don't need three-quarter-ton towing and hauling capability in their pickups, and we think most people will find the improved ride comfort a more-than-fair tradeoff for trailering and payload ratings that equal what the Ram could do in 2008."

Sounds to us like Dodge is making a laser-light-like move directly at the half-ton market — maybe the remaining engineers over at Chrysler have the right idea after all. Head on over to PickupTrucks.com to read all about it — and take a run through the gallery below to see it.

<![CDATA[ 2009 Dodge Ram Pricing To Start At $22,170 ]]> Chrysler's plan to move the 2009 Dodge Ram off lots in this era of high gas prices seems to revolve partially around lowering the starting price to just $22,170, which is almost $1,000 less than the current starting price for a Dodge Ram 1500 regular cab. That low starting price comes with an increase in features on the interior, a more aerodynamic design and the RamBox, a reflection of the Charmin-soft truck market. The Ram Quad starts at a competitive $26,225 and the Ram Crew 1500 is priced from $32,530. If you want all the toys, you can get the Dodge Ram Laramie Ram Crew 1500 4x4 with the 5.7-Liter Hemi for $44,140. We're still wondering whether a competitive price and the promise of RamBox will be enough to move trucks — especially considering the new F-150s right around the corner, and nobody knows what to expect out of pricing for it. Dodge's full 2009 Ram pricing below the jump.

Equipped with the new HEMI, the all-new 2009 Dodge Ram R/T regular-cab 4x2 model with a short bed and 4:10 gears blasts from 0-60 mph in less than 6 seconds - best-in-class performance.

An improved frame design incorporating high-strength steel supports an all-new, first-in-segment, solid axle, multi-link coil spring rear suspension that provides outstanding ride and handling characteristics without sacrificing payload (up to 1,850 pounds) and towing capability (up to 9,100 pounds).

<![CDATA[ Chrysler To America: "Please, Please Buy Our 2008 Dodge Ram" ]]> In two months, the all-new 2009 Dodge Ram will launch into the softest truck market in decades. In an effort to clear the store shelves and make way for the new truck, Chrysler is offering a whopping 6 years of 0% financing on the 2008 Dodge Ram to help motivate buyers into the showroom and help empty the lots. The deal, announced on a conference call today, seems to be part of an "oh crap, we've gotta move steel" trend at Chrysler these days. Who could forget the $2.99 gas incentive, or the "hey lets get cow crap all over downtown Detroit" stunt. Man, that one was the greatest. [Auto News via Pickuptrucks.com]

<![CDATA[ This Is Our Country, This Is Our Truck...And It Will Be For Quite Some Time ]]> General Motors is planning to extend the current product cycle on its full-size trucks and SUVs, the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday. New designs had been expected to come in time for the 2012 model year. However GM spokesperson Tom Wilkinson told the Journal that GM was "looking at the whole product portfolio" in an effort to bring more fuel-efficient vehicles to the U.S. market. While the change in product planning should free up much-needed R&D funds, there's little doubt the lukewarm launch of the latest Toyota Tundra and the gas prices-induced slow-motion 2009 Dodge Ram and 2009 Ford F-150 launch train-wrecks influenced top brass at the Ren Cen.

The report also mentioned cancellation of a future Hummer product and the potential shuttering of a brand, though no concrete evidence has emerged to clarify whether the Hummer product cancellation and brand closure were one in the same (Hummer) or whether Hummer might be allowed to die on the vine while another weak brand, such as Buick, was closed outright or moved off-shore. <![CDATA[ Careful With That Axe, Nardelli: Chrysler June Sales Plummet ]]> As further evidence that Cerberus bit off far more than it expected with its purchase of Chrysler last fall, an internal memo revealed to the Free Press shows that the last few months have been even worse than Chrysler expected. In fact, June numbers are showing an industry-wide disaster looming, with total U.S. vehicle sales down 7 percent in April, 8 percent in May, and on pace to drop 20 percent in June to an annualized rate of only 12.5 million. The memo didn't specifically mention any additional cuts at Chrysler, but CEOs don't generally send e-mails warning of a looming industry crisis just before announcing across-the-board raises.

Attempting to close on a high note, Nardelli said "We have great vehicles to sell. And keep talking up our products to your family, friends and neighbors." Unfortunately, most of Chrysler employees' family, friends and neighbors are grappling with their own layoffs and foreclosures, so putting a new Sebring in the garage isn't a top priority.

<![CDATA[ 2010 Ram SRT-10 Caught At The Track? ]]> What is this now? A blacked out new 2009 Dodge Ram with a manufacturers plate lurking around a Waterford Race Track in Michigan? Why it certainly is. Why would a truck already unveiled be all blacked out and at a race track? Perhaps it's the hi-po model. Oh how delightfully gossiptastic. We have very literally zero proof this is anything other than a run of the mill Ram, but we're going to throw it out that this may be the Ram SRT-10, maybe just the R/T, but it's being subjected to some laps around the track. <![CDATA[ Detroit Auto Show: 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 Revealed Amid Crowd of Cows ]]> Here it is folks, the crowd of cows has parted — more on that later — to reveal the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup. It's a double-horned blast of new truck-love from the car company owned by Cerberus. As we've told you before the new pickup's got all sorts of horn-y hotness like the RamBox cargo management system available in the crew cab which includes a weatherproof, lockable, illuminated and drainable storage bin built into each of the bed rails — with a total of 8.6 cubic feet of space. That's enough room to hold up to 10 cases of 12-ounce beverages — we'll let you choose which beverage in your RamBox, but we'd choose bottles of Bell's Oberon. But there's even more drink storage locations — like the "store in the floor" storage bins with removable liners, big enough for ten 12-ounce beverages and ice. But why are we still talking? Here's the live reveal and the official press release after the jump.

Dodge has been building trucks since1917. Throughout its storied history, Dodge introduced a number of innovative trucks - the original "Suburban," aerodynamic Airflow-model trucks and the ultra-capable Power Wagon. But it was in 1994 that Dodge introduced a revolutionary Ram in the light-duty pickup market, with its "big rig" styling and iconic crosshair grille.

"We put a truck on the market that tripled our market share," said Ralph Gilles, Vice President - Jeep®/Truck Design Studio, Chrysler LLC. "Our design was polarizing - people loved it or hated it. But the people who loved it, bought it. They still do, because Dodge Ram continues to stand out from the herd of 'me-too' trucks."

For the redesign of its all-new, next-generation Ram, Dodge pulled out all the stops.

"Our mandate was to make a quantum leap and add even more voltage to Ram," said Scott Kunselman, Vice President - Body-on-Frame Product Team. "Our all-new 2009 Dodge Ram is a game-changer in terms of capability, convenience, craftsmanship and safety."

Capability

In addition to the new-generation 5.7-liter HEMI which produces 380 hp (283 kW) and 404 lb.-ft. (548 N·m) of torque, the all-new 2009 Dodge Ram offers a 4.7-liter V-8 providing 310 horsepower (231 kW) and 330 lb.-ft. (447 N·m) of torque, and a 3.7-liter V-6 generating 215 horsepower (160 kW) and 235 lb.-ft. (319 N·m) of torque; a six-speed manual transmission and four- and five-speed automatic transmissions; part-time and on-demand four-wheel-drive transfer cases; and 3.21, 3.55, 3.92 and 4.10 axle ratios.

Equipped with the new HEMI, the all-new 2009 Dodge Ram R/T regular-cab 4x2 model with a short bed and 4:10 gears blasts to best-in-class performance of 0-60 mph in under 7 seconds.

The all-new 2009 Dodge Ram is offered in regular cab, Quad Cab® and crew cab, with three box lengths: 8-foot (regular cab), 6-foot-4-inches (regular cab and Quad Cab), and a new-for-2009 box length of 5-foot-7-inches (crew cab). Five trim levels are available, each with a unique appearance: ST, SLT, TRX, Sport, and the top-of-the-line Laramie.

An improved frame design incorporating high-strength steel supports an all-new, first-in-segment, multi-link coil spring rear suspension that improves ride and handling characteristics without sacrificing payload (up to an estimated 1,840 pounds) and towing capability (up to an estimated 9,100 pounds).

Convenience

The all-new 2009 Dodge Ram Crew 1500 features an available first-in-segment RamBox cargo management system that provides weatherproof, lockable, illuminated and drainable storage compartments integrated into both fender sides for effortless access and convenience. Each box holds up to 4.3 cubic feet of whatever - such as five cases (120 cans) of 12-ounce beverages.

The RamBox system includes a bed divider/2-foot bed extender for oversize loads and a rail system with sliding, adjustable cleats for infinitely adjustable tie-down capability. The 2009 Dodge Ram's tailgate features a standard assist feature that reduces the effort needed to raise and close the tailgate.

Another new segment-first innovation for the 2009 Dodge Ram Crew 1500 is a pair of "store in the floor" bins with removable liners that offer even more versatile storage - large enough for ten 12-ounce beverages and ice.

There are many other convenient storage locations throughout the all-new 2009 Dodge Ram including a large upper glove box, map pockets in door panels and a configurable center console. All in all, there are nearly twice as many storage locations in the all-new 2009 Dodge Ram than were in the previous model.

Technically sophisticated, yet simple-to-navigate electronic and infotainment choices include MyGIG Multimedia Infotainment System with 30-gigabyte hard drive, navigation system, and a rear-seat DVD entertainment system available in the Quad Cab and crew cab. Also available is first-in-segment live SIRIUS Backseat TV™ and segment-first surround-sound audio.

Other premium amenities include first-in-segment heated and ventilated front seats, available heated rear seats, first-for-Dodge heated steering wheel, one-touch up/down driver and passenger windows, automatic-on headlamps and dual-zone automatic temperature control - a first for Dodge Ram.

Craftsmanship

In addition to the exterior, the all-new interior of the 2009 Dodge Ram stands out with a renewed emphasis on craftsmanship expressed in premium interior appointments including six-ring instrumentation, redesigned controls, chrome accents, premium seating with improved bolsters and two-tone upholstery. An automatic-transmission floor shifter, incorporated into a configurable center console, is available for the first time in a Dodge Ram. All 2009 Dodge Ram interiors are significantly upgraded with "soft-touch" materials that feature industry-first two-tone technology and premium fit and finish. Full-width contrasting stitching is offered on soft-touch instrument panels for Sport and Laramie models.

On the exterior, the all-new 2009 Dodge Ram features a redesigned aluminum hood with a large power bulge and a forward-canted grille, imparting a "head down, ready to charge" attitude, while front and rear bumpers wrap around each body side. The rear bumper on HEMI-equipped models is radiused over chromed dual exhaust tips - a first in light-duty pickups. Attractive 20-inch wheels are available in three styles. Sills are pulled down to cover frame rails for a premium appearance. Badges are three-dimensional, rather than decals, and are designed to stand out. The sculpted Ram's-head badge on the tailgate is 250 percent larger than the previous badge.

Safety

On the safety and security front, the all-new 2009 Dodge Ram offers more than 30 active and passive safety features, including standard front and rear side-curtain air bags with Enhanced Accident Response System, knee bolsters, seat-belt pre-tensioners, Anti-lock Brake System, BeltAlert® System, and Electronic Stability Control; and available adjustable pedals, ParkSense® Rear Park Assist and ParkView® Rear Back-up Camera.

Manufacturing

The all-new 2009 Dodge Ram will be built in two locations: Quad Cab and Ram Crew 1500 models will be built at the Warren (Mich.) Assembly Plant, and regular cab and Ram Crew 1500 models will be built at the St. Louis North Assembly Plan in Fenton, Mo.

Dodge Brand
With a U.S. market share of 6.4 percent, Dodge is Chrysler LLC's best-selling brand and the fifth largest nameplate in the U.S. automotive market. In 2006, Dodge sold more than 1.3 million vehicles in the global market. In the highly competitive truck market, Dodge has a 15 percent market share. Last year, Dodge introduced the all-new 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan with 35 new or improved features including the newest innovation, the Swivel 'n Go™ seating system. Dodge is entering key European volume segments with Nitro, Caliber and Avenger. The all-new 2009 Dodge Journey will debut this year, and will be available outside North America in both left- and right-hand drive in mid-2008. And later this year, Dodge will introduce its modern muscle car, the all-new Dodge Challenger. For the 2010 model year, Dodge will offer the all-new Dodge Ram with an advanced two-mode hybrid system.

<![CDATA[ 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 ]]> Since those wily Mopar-lovin' bastards at Allpar and the never-lovin' Mopar aristocrats at the Times (who knew they were such trouble-makers!) have gone and dropped the cover on the new 2009 Dodge Ram 1500, we've decided to drop trou on our embargoed pictures of the new Ram-headed bull-dodging pickup truck. The newly hotted-up Ram (thanks to chief truck designer Ralph Gilles) gets a similarly new 5.7-liter Hemi V8 — giving it more horsepower than the previous generation, 380 hp. And a similar boost in torque up to 404 lb-ft. But it's not just under the hood where the Ram's seeing some monumental changes. There's also the RamBox cargo management system available in the crew cab which includes a weatherproof, lockable, illuminated and drainable storage bin built into each of the bed rails — with a total of 8.6 cubic feet of space. Also, check out that interior — suh-weet! All we've got to say is — well played Dodge. Your move Ford. Oh and yeah, we've also got a press release after the jump, but if you want the real skinny on the new Horn-y hauler, there's a pretty good site we know of with more detail than you can shake a horn at.

<![CDATA[ Man Dies Protecting Truck From Thieves ]]>
CNN is reporting on a story that could make any red blooded, truck driving guy feel a pang of anger. San Diego area man Richard Hoagland was sitting at home minding his own business when he heard his truck start up. Since he wasn't in his truck at the time, something was up. He rushed out to find two men attempting to steal his Dodge Ram and instead of letting them get away, he jumped into the bed and attempted to confront the scum bags. The thieves raced on for several blocks, careening across the tarmac and hitting parked cars. Unfortunately, Richard was killed when the truck crashed and he was ejected from the vehicle. One suspect was caught at the scene but the other escaped. Police are looking for tips, here's hoping they find the other slime ball and run them both up the river. [San Diego Union Tribune]

<![CDATA[ Indiana Man Buys New Dodge Ram With Spare Change ]]> It took Paul Brant 13 years to stash away sufficient coinage to obtain a $25,000 Dodge Ram half-ton pickup- this after he bought a pickup/Neon combo with $36,000 in change back in 1994. Sheriff's deputies escorted him to the Dodge dealership, which gives the whole affair the scent of a publicity stunt (in our no-doubt-excessively-cynical view). To make such a feat possible, Mr. Brant had to accumulate an average $5.27 per day in change, seven days a week; he stored his coins in coffee cans, piggy banks, and water jugs. [Associated Press]

<![CDATA[ Are You the 2009 Dodge Ram? ]]> This press shot was picked off the SRT Forums, where the poster claims it's the new 2009 Dodge Ram. We've no idea whether or not that's true, but what we do know is that since we didn't have access to embargoed press shots before the unveil expected to come at the Detroit Auto Show in 2008, it certainly wasn't us that posted it over there. Hey, maybe next time Chrysler will actually decide our readers are deserved of embargo access, eh? We're expecting the new Ram to be coming to market with a light-duty V8 Cummins turbodiesel will have about 260-300 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque, with gas mileage supposedly to hit 20 mpg city and 25 on the highway (compared with the Hemi's 13/17). Acceleration is about 1 second longer on the 0-60 (9.6 seconds rather than 8.6 seconds). Whatever, we look forward to watching the stampeding bulls make their way through the city of Detroit in January. What the up-charged Mopar forum fans have to say after the jump.

veritas: "I hope that's horribly inaccurate."

georgejetson: "I think it looks good. Way better than the hideousness that is the current truck."

<![CDATA[ Dodge To Ride Bulls Into Detroit Auto Show For 2009 Ram Reveal ]]> Cow_Car.jpgChrysler makes a champion effort every January to win the Battle of the Unveils at the Detroit Auto Show. In past years we've seen glass-smashing, journalist tar-and-feathering and sending cryptic messages via waterfall to name just a few. And while we're pretty sure Chrysler's winning dominating with the most Over-The-Top Unveil points (but what about the cars?), they aren't about to stop for the unveiling of the new Ram. Up until this point it's all been humans and inanimate objects. So what's next? Animals! Cows, to be precise.

The horned brand from the automaker traded more times than a 40-year-old linebacker is apparently seeking approval from the City of Detroit to run a herd of cattle down Jefferson Avenue as part of the 2009 Dodge Ram introduction. One person familiar with the plan said it could look like John Wayne's "Red River." Sure it might look cool, but it will probably smell pretty uncool too — either way, we'll be on hand to witness the mayhem PRgasm. [Freep via Winding Road]

<![CDATA[ 2009 Dodge Ram Quad Cab ]]> Looks like yet another enterprising amateur spy photographer's happened upon a heavily camouflaged 2009 Dodge Ram hitting the wide open expanses of I-75. We'll just add these shots we received from user "fordchevydodge" on the site all about the Inside News at GM to the ever-expanding list of horned hauler shots we've already seen. This time however, instead of circling the Auburn Hills Embassy Suites, this uncastrated male sheep was caught a little further South. This Quad Cab version of the Dodge heavy hauler was part of what appears to be a convoy (or is it a pride) of the trucks running the Michigan-Florida gauntlet. These particular shots show the team (or is it a pack) heading North near Atlanta. The new-for-2009 Ram's expected to be running with a few different upgrades under the hood including a new Phoenix V6 with supposedly greater power and better fuel economy, a 4.7-liter V8 or a revised Hemi — for more marketing mojo than ever before. We're expecting we'll probably see the new range of trucks grabbing life by the horns at the Chicago Auto Show at the beginning of next year.

<![CDATA[ Dodge "Grabs Life" By Going Bold And Killing Horns In New Ad Campaign ]]> The horn-y brand has got a new owner and now they've got a newly shortened tagline. Dodge is going from "Grab life by the horns" to just simply "Grab life" and now they've got a new ad campaign to sell it. They've done it on the cheap though, snagging images from old commercials, tossed together with images of sporting Americana — Red Wings and Nascar. All of that's re-mixed with an amerigasm of what we'd describe as "freedom rock." I guess our only question after watching the new ad is — when did Dodge become the advertising amalgamation of Ford and Chevy. Or more appropriately, since when did Michael Bay start directing coffee achiever "Bold Moves" commercials for Dodge? All we know is that ain't creamer those kids are adding to their Dodge.

"...when it goes on sale next summer, expect to see four all-new or revised engine choices. The base 215-hp/235lb-ft 3.7-liter V6 will be replaced with the 260-hp/265lb-ft 4.0-liter V6 used in the Dodge Nitro SUV. The Ram's current 235-hp/300lb-ft 4.7-liter V8 gets the same makeover the 2008 Dodge Dakota received, boosting power to 300-hp/390lb-ft, and the 5.7-liter HEMI V8 will get a bump in displacement and power from current 345-hp/375lb-ft levels. A new Cummins V8 diesel motor will also be available. Both gas and diesel V8s will use 6-speed automatic transmissions."
We'll look forward to seeing both the power boost as well as also whether that revised forward-sweeping front end will really provide the added boost in fuel economy to make up for it.

<![CDATA[ Huffing Diesel Fumes: Ford Earth Day Press Release Boldly Claims Diesel Emissions Leadership...From Behind ]]> FoMoCo made a real big show of their bold environmental moves this past weekend in a press release they titled "EARTH DAY 'TOP TEN' - A SAMPLE OF FORD'S 'GREEN' INITIATIVES." Obvs, we expect that type of trumpeting bold declaration, especially as it happens every Earth Day — and usually they're overblown as all get out. I mean what do you expect, a Greenpeace award for patching the hole in the ozone layer? Come on, these are automakers we're talking about. And we know this year's list's going to be more overblown than most when "Use of Sustainable Fabric" is at the top o' the heap. But the item that I'm most interested in is the claim

"Ford is leading the diesel revolution with the 2008 Super Duty, offering the segment's first clean diesel engine."
No doubt the addition of the word "revolution" is meant to be a slight jab at the 'merican revolution and their new-for-2007 line-up of heavy haulers, but they're claim of "leading" the segment may be a tad bit disingenuous considering they may have forgotten another automaker in the rush to make sure they're protecting the right flank from the General. What about the 'merican side of the German-American hybrid? The big Dodge heavy haulers appear to be (after quick calls to GM, FoMoCo and Dodge) the only manufacturer HD's able to meet not only the current 2007 emissions standards here in the US, but also the 2010 standards for their big diesel — the Cummins 6.7-liter turbo. Maybe FoMoCo thinks it's in the diesel emissions lead because they've been huffing Dodge tailpipe — because although they're correct in stating their first-to-market status on the clean diesel engines, I don't think that necessarily defines "leadership." Full press release below the jump.
EARTH DAY 'TOP TEN' - A SAMPLE OF FORD'S 'GREEN' INITIATIVES

In recognition of Earth Day, April 22, this week's 'Top Ten' list focuses on some of Ford's latest 'green' initiatives. Ford's comprehensive global sustainability strategy includes a focus on the development of environmentally friendly vehicle technologies, including hybrids, diesels, bio-diesels, advanced engines and transmissions, E85 ethanol, plug-in hybrids, hydrogen internal combustion engines and fuel cells. In addition, Ford is introducing sustainable efforts throughout the company in manufacturing, materials and facilities management.

Ford's commitment to 'green' vehicle technologies will result in improved fuel economy for our customers and reduced CO 2 emissions. Other 'green' efforts will help us minimize our environmental impact through the conservation of energy and a reduction in pollution, while saving the company and customers money.

1. Use of Sustainable Fabric - The 2008 Ford Escape is believed to be the first U.S. automotive application of 100 percent recycled fabric seating surfaces. The new fabric, supplied by Interface Fabrics, Inc., is produced from 100 percent post-industrial waste. Post-industrial waste is something originally intended for retail use that never makes it to the consumer. It can include anything from plastic intended for pop bottles to un-dyed polyester fibers that don't make the cut for consumer use.

This plastic and polyester is processed, spun into yarn, dyed and woven into seat fabric. Recycling waste otherwise destined for landfills has obvious environmental benefits. Interface Fabrics estimates that Ford's use of post-industrial recycled materials, rather than virgin fibers, will conserve up to:

o 600,000 gallons of water
o 1.8 million pounds of carbon dioxide (CO 2) equivalents
o The equivalent of more than 7 million kilowatt hours of electricity

2. Leader in Fuel-Efficient 6-speed transmissions - Ford, Lincoln and Mercury offer 15 models that are available with fuel-saving 6-speed transmissions. Ford plans to produce about 1.3 million 6-speed transmissions annually by 2008. Two out of every three vehicles will be offered with 6-speed transmissions by the end of next year. Fuel efficiency is improved up to 7 percent in highway driving over typical 4-speed transmissions while offering better performance and smoother, more precise shifts.

3. Ford Introduces First Clean Diesel in Heavy-Duty Pickup Segment - Ford is leading the diesel revolution with the 2008 Super Duty, offering the segment's first clean diesel engine. The new 6.4-liter diesel utilizes Ford Clean Diesel Technology and meets the most stringent emissions standards in the world while increasing power and torque in an engine that is smooth and quiet. The 6.4-liter PowerStroke clean-diesel makes an impressive 350 horsepower at 3,000 rpm and 650 foot-pounds of torque starting at 2,000 rpm while reducing particulate output by up to 97 percent to a level on par with gasoline engines.

4. Sustainable Landscaping Preserves Environment and Looks Good - In an effort to conserve natural resources, improve habitat and lower costs, Ford has installed nearly 200 acres of sustainable landscaping around its corporate properties in Dearborn and Allen Park, Mich. The comprehensive grounds maintenance plan incorporates fields of wildflowers, natural prairies and fallow fields. Several prairie fields are designated 'Grow Zones,' meaning they contribute to a sustainable environment by preserving natural resources, providing wildlife habitat, absorbing rainwater, reducing erosion and saving maintenance costs.

5. First Two-Time Winner of EPA's ENERGY STAR Award - Ford's actions to increase energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from its facilities have earned it the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's coveted ENERGY STAR 2007 Partner of the Year Award in Energy Management. Ford is the first automaker to receive the award two years in a row. In 2006, Ford improved energy efficiency in the U.S. by 5 percent, resulting in savings of approximately $25 million. Since 2000, Ford's U.S. facilities have improved energy efficiency by 25 percent, equivalent to the amount of energy consumed by 220,000 homes.

6. Ford Escape and Focus Are Over 80 Percent Recyclable - Dismantlers and shredders process more than 94 percent of all salvaged vehicles. They collect parts and materials for reuse, remanufacturing and recycling. Usually, 75 percent of an automobile's content is recycled - including steel, iron, aluminum, copper and other non-ferrous metals. The Ford Escape and Focus exceed the norm, being over 80 percent recyclable.

7. Paint Fumes Become Fuel at Michigan Truck Plant - Ford's innovative Fumes-to-Fuel system burns paint fumes in a process that produces electricity at the Michigan Truck Plant in Wayne, Mich., home of the Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator. The patent-pending Ford system uses a Stirling cycle Engine to burn the fumes from solvent-based paint used to paint cars and trucks. Not only does the process virtually destroy the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the fumes, it also produces electricity for the plant. The program burns one-third of the fumes in one paint booth, yet 45-50 kilowatts of electricity are produced - enough to meet the typical demand of an average suburban block of houses. Currently, Ford's North American assembly plants incinerate the VOCs in solvent-based paint fumes, but the process requires a significant amount of energy, substantial floor space and produces some carbon dioxide (CO 2). The only by-products of Ford's Fumes-to-Fuel system are small amounts of water vapor, CO 2 and nitrogen oxides.

8. Keeping Cool With Geothermal Cooling System - The Lima (Ohio) Engine Plant, home of production for Ford's award-winning Duratec 35 engine, uses cold water from two abandoned limestone quarries on the property to cool a portion of the plant and its equipment. The geothermal system saved Ford $300,000 in installation costs - compared with the cost of installing a traditional cooling tower - and saved more than $300,000 in annual operating costs. Although actual cost savings are difficult to determine at this point, the system is capable of providing chilled water using 0.1 kw/ton of cooling versus traditional chiller systems with cooling towers, which consume around 0.7 kw/ton or more. In addition, several hundred thousand gallons of domestic water have already been saved due to the elimination of some existing cooling towers.

9. Police Go Green with the 2008 Crown Victoria Interceptor - The 2008 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor will be the first and only police fleet vehicle offered with flexible fuel capability, allowing it to operate on E85 ethanol or gasoline. Ford is the largest producer and seller of police vehicles, with more than 80 percent of the market. As police and government agencies move toward becoming more environmentally conscious and seek alternative fuel vehicles for their fleets, Ford is in the position to fill this need for its police customers. Ford's current lineup of flexible fuel vehicles (FFVs) includes the Ford F-150, Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis models.

Ford has placed more than two million flexible fuel vehicles on the road and has pledged to make half of its production capable of running on alternative fuels by 2012, provided the necessary fuel and infrastructure are in place. The company recently announced it has achieved 50-state certification for all of the Ford and Mercury 2008 flexible fuel passenger car models. In an effort to differentiate its FFVs from standard gasoline vehicles, Ford will begin equipping the E85-capable vehicles with yellow gas caps by the end of this year.

10. World's Largest Green Roof - Ford's Dearborn Truck Plant has the World's Largest Living Roof, according to Guinness World Records TM. The 10.4-acre living roof is part of Ford's redevelopment of the Ford Rouge Center, which includes a number of progressive environmental initiatives. The roof is composed of a drought-resistant perennial groundcover called sedum which is planted into a specially layered bed. Virtually maintenance-free, it can absorb up to 4 million gallons of rainwater annually and is part of a broader storm-water management system installed at the Rouge. In addition to absorbing rainwater and carbon dioxide, the sedum roof produces oxygen and provides natural overhead insulation for the final assembly building, thereby reducing energy costs. It also is expected to last twice as long as a traditionally constructed roof.
