Nice price? I may even call that a screaming bargain, depending on the size of the rust pockets!

That's funny. My family had one of these when I was a kid, and my brother called it "the big car." Maybe because our other car was a Tercel?

i love the good 'olr jalop

but there has to be a limit.

you guys cry over the cars program (and i sometimes have to agree) and you guys lust after early 90s BMWs (which I agree) and you guys scoff at anything that is not 25 years old and costs more than 5 grand.

I have to ask why? why do you all hate such autos that have given significant advancements in not only comfort but safety. Why do you guys hate navigation systems? and power locks and windows? I also call for the manual transmission, (every car that I have that CAN be equipped with a stick. does) but honestly, this saab? what is so god damn appealing about this car? I think it's body isn't horrible, but for 4 grand? c'mon guys! spill the beans, I've been a member for months now, what magic jalopnik secret am I missing?!

Is it so wrong that I like my X5? or my 3 series? or my DD big merc? I don't get it, and I feel as if the only way I can advance as a Jalop is to understand the ways of the Star commenters the one's that would rather spend hours under their car instead of driving it. or driving a 75 3 series instead of a new 5 or E class. I know that cars have lost a bit of soul in the past 20 years with everyone going for heavier cars with more power. but still! It's the era we live in, sure we can remember the past but we should embrace our future!

and one last thing....4 Grand is way to much for an Aging Neglected Saab. Pipe please..

@vdiddy210: I also think it's overpriced, but there is some charm in the little machine. It's nimble, has good performance with the 16 valve motor, and gets good mileage. It's also quirky and has a lot more character than more modern cars.

I think that's probably the most rational argument for this car that you'll find here. Most Saabophiles and even most Jalops are not driven by rational thought when buying a car.

Nice Price but it still needs the Turbo!

And, uh, GR, you left out the bit about SAAB ditching the Triumph 1.85L in '73 for their own, great improved 2.0L. This '79 had the 118hp K-jet CIS injection version...

I'm not terribly smitten by this - eggnog is not my favorite color - but I'll give it Nice Price. However, I'd want a good look at the engine conversion and there doesn't appear to be any A/C, which is a dealbreaker for someone living in Miami.

By the way, Saab had exclusive use of the Triumph-sourced engine from 1967 to 1970. The Dolomite wasn't introduced until fall 1970 as a '71 model.

This is nice and all, but y'know what would be REAL nice? The other half of that engine and the Dolomite it came originally came in.

Yes, I have lost my gdmf'n mind. Why do you ask?

@Captain Liverspots: Oh, I don't know Captain. A Dolly Sprint was about as close as the British got to making their own BMW 2002Tii. Decent motorsport pedigree, with touring car and rally wins, and Michelotti styling. Looks Jalop worthy to me...

If anyone is interested, I'd be more than happy to drive this to your destination, considering I'm 15 minutes from this car. You may need to replace the tires by the time I get there, though.

That rear end is just so svelte and buttery and smooth. Man, what a pleasing vehicle to look at. The swedish flags are a nice touch as well.

    Awesome Saab is awesome.

Excellent. My Minnesota uncle loves these things. His wife is full-blood Swedish and I'll tell you, put her behind the wheel and it's like a page from a Let's Go guide. And then she turns the ignition, and it's like a page from the back half of Road & Track!

This car has been in the newspaper in Rhode Island, and from the article this owner is definitely a bit eccentric. I wonder why he is getting rid of it?
