    The NC State Fair is one of my favorite times of the year, here in North Cackalacky. I've been here for 12 years and I've only missed it once.

    Yes, of course there are the rides and fried food... but what's special about the NC State Fair is that it's technically a show case for our agricultural heritage. It features plenty of exhibits on yams, yaks, poultry and life stock and the associated Future Farmers of America.

    Did I mention the fried food? Our fair even has a blog about fried food. Check it out:

    @seatbelt123: I was in Chapel Hill for the Kizashi review and in Raleigh for a wedding. I loved the area, can't wait to get back. Loved the NC State Fair, as well. My wife and I totally dig state fairs. #trafficbarrelmonster

    @Matt Hardigree: No problem. :) One of my favorite people-watching pasttimes - name their celebrity look-alike. Based on that pic, it was either him or a young Anthony Edwards. But I thought I'd spare you the comparison to Gilbert from Revenge of the Nerds...

    Dang. I'm too tired to make that work. I was going for the old, "He got busted for smuggling books into ______ (insert name of state here)--but he was acquitted because nobody could prove it was a book."
