What is this '68 Chrysler Plymouth Barracuda they speak of? I do believe that would've been a fast track to an ass kicking if you said that to a Plymouth Barracuda owner in the late 60s.
@armyofchuckness: They did the same thing with the Eagle Talon. Must be something to do with orphan brands, meaning there may be some "General Motors Pontiacs," "General Motors Saturns" and (hopefully) "General Motors Oldsmobiles" in Forza 4.
I'm seeing a lot of RSR Porsches, but where's the Lemans winning Mazda 787B and the LMP2 chasis Mazda Furai concept? Mmmm Mazda made more than Miatas and Ford liecenced trucks, Forza.
Why has a LeMons version of a racing sim not been offered?
It would allow for truly incredible amounts of creativity in failures/penalties.
"Your Alfa developed a main bearing knock and it's still practice...here are your options:"
A. Give up and go home...you didn't like this car, anyway.
B. Bribe other teams for parts (you'd have a bribe stash, of course).
C. Start calling local junkyards and buy the first engine which has a chance in Hell of fitting.
D. profit
Unfortunately, it wouldn't work unless you adopted something like the gameplay from Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed (great old underrated game) in which you had a decent damage model along with the parts upgrade system that allowed you to sell your old parts to finance new ones.
@brake booster by Lucas...I'd better get religion!: yeah, it could be played on a PS1 that has to use duct tape for keeping the lid shut, spray painted with some nonsensical graffitti, and a toothpick wedged in the outlet so the plug won't fall out. your gaming partner would of course be a blow-up doll holding the good half-clamshelled controller with exposed wiring.
@brandegee: Agreed: Porsche Unleashed was a great game. And, by progressing through the company's heritage, it made the old cars more interesting to have.
I've got some old cars in GT4, but driving them tends to feel like driving any other car, just slower. With Porsche Unleashed, the modeled interiors plus the depth of racing with the old cars made them more appreciatable.
The biggest flaw in Porsche Unleashed was that you could buy any used car, repair everything, and sell it for overall profit. Worked every time, and was the secret to easy money.
Serious question: In the latest driving simulators, can you actually tell the difference between the driving dynamics of different cars, other than relatively vague concepts of "acceleration" and "handling"? E.g. do AWD cars behave noticably differently from RWD cars, or even FWD cars? Do turbocharged cars behave differently from N/A cars? Do older cars have fewer gears? Do V8's sound different from V6's? Etc., etc.
All I have to compare to is the relatively crappy GT ProStreet for Wii, which is a few generations old on the tech side. It's enjoyable enough if you don't care that the graphics kind of suck. But all the cars rev to about 11,000 RPM, all have 6 gears, all sound exactly the same, and the Honda Fit oversteers as readily as the S2000. Once you get over that, the driving experience is quite convincing. But there is no way to pretend you're getting the experience of driving anything other than a generic computer-generated RWD car. Are the newer games significantly better in that sense?
@brownie has no witty phrase to add: In GT4 and F2 every car drove differently. I can only expect it will get better. The expensive wheel controllers make the experience better.
@brownie has no witty phrase to add: Even in GT2 you could tell the difference. If you drive a FWD then a RWD or AWD you would quickly feel the difference. And they had different sounds and gears too. I could tell the difference in sound when I heard the Cobra idling. I'm sure they got better (never played GT4). Even NFS series caught up.
@brownie has no witty phrase to add: Absolutely. You can even adjust just about any part of the car you can in real life and feel the difference. It's pretty convincing.
@brownie has no witty phrase to add: Yep. I had to change my driving style when I switched from my cheap Audi TT starter car to a nice BMW M3. It took LOTS of tries to finally understand how the weight, handling and everything worked. Then, I had to change it again per car that I got.
Supercars were especially hard, too much throttle and you were just making lots of noise. They required a fine amount of delicate handling.
I don't play video games, so I'm not sure how realistic these cars are supposed to be. I just happened to be scanning through the list though, and these caught my eye:
What exactly are those supposed to be? I know the FD RX-7s were still produced in Japan well after they left the market here, but what is the Mazdaspeed Roadster? The Mazdaspeed Miata was only 2004-2005, and Mazda has not made an actual Mazdaspeed RX-8 regardless of year. Do they create cars just for the games?
@PowerTryp forever Minardi: Okay, but very little of that is really "performance" oriented. It would have been awesome if Mazda decided to release a true MS RX-8 and turbo the Renesis, but alas, I dream...
As has already been established, this is mostly pretty good. I like this list better than the GT5 list, which is just as well because A) it will never be released, and B) I already have a 360, not a PS3.
I'm going to assume the Aveo gets unlocked when you achieve 100% completion. It's the gag car.
Don't forget the "The Benchmark High Speed Ring is best described as an old airfield and hangar converted into a race track and automotive playground, perfect for all manner of creative "Forza Motorsport" hoonage and multiplayer mayhem. The track is characterized by 3.96 miles of rough surfaces and huge open areas, featuring a massive oval, an 8-lane drag strip, and an airplane hangar that players can drive (or drift) through. "

Also there may never have been a Mazdaspeed version of the RX-8 but there are Mazdaspeed parts that you can buy and make one for your self out of.
