    I'd gladly sacrifice the floor mats, sound deadening, Stereo, and the leather on the seats (non staticy cloth is fine) if they'd throw in the LSD (with requisite traction control) and a hard top (for security, I've been affected by growing up in a shithole town and while I would be moving elsewhere before I could afford a Lotus I fear the damage is permanent).

    Can I save even more money and get it without the leather seats, sound deadening, floor mats and AC? Actually, skip the stereo and speakers, too. I'd rather lose the Momo tiller and go with something by Sparco.


    I'll put my own in and get something that controls my iPod. I don't really see the need for 4 speakers in a 2 seater. Just give me a pair of separates up front and a small sub. Is there a JL Stealthbox for the Elise? And really, in an Elise, do you really need a stereo?

    @slackinfux: Dude, it may be an incredible sporty car, but that's a Toyota engine back there. Looks great, goes well, corners like almost nothing else.


    Sounds like a pissed-off hornet. And not the kind with a 308-cube straight-six.


    Yes, I need a stereo. Two speakers is fine. Just an AM/FM head unit with 3.5mm aux-in jack, please.

    You know what sucks?


    Lotuses (Loti?) hold their value way too long. You can't find a used one for cheap enough.


    Of course, a friend of mine swapped in this same mill into his MR Spyder. Sort of an uglier poor man's Lotus.

    Leather seats? Unnecessary, but nice to have. Stereo? Ditto. A/C? Totally worth it for the few days a year that southern Michigan gets unbearably hot.


    I think they might have just built the perfect car.

    Strange, UK spec Elise has been without any luxuries all the time. Leather, power windows, central locking, A/C, stereo even is optional IIRC.

    What's with leather seats in sportscar, are they really a must?

    @Manic King of Corinthia: They think we sybaritic Americans won't buy a Lotus unless it's optioned like a Mercedes SL. That's nothing new, of course-- it's the same reason my friend's '70 Elan has power windows with those stupid frames that can't go down.

    Ok, what the hell? "Purist edition" and it still has leather seats, a stereo and sound deadening? If I am searching for a "purist" Elise, I want a street legal track car.

    @Scaaaaandinavian the JalopFlick: I, too, am baffled. This seems like a perfectly comfortable everyday car to me.


    Lotus probably won't publish it, but I'd love to see a list of everything that's not included. Gonna head over to that enthusiast site and see what I can find.

    @Scaaaaandinavian the JalopFlick: Yeah, I really wasn't expecting that. I've watched Clarkson's Exige S review at least fifteen times (it's in 08x03, which I use without exception to pop Top Gear cherries), and I paraphrase: "You get exactly two luxuries on this car. An electric window on this side, and another one over there. And they're optional extras..."


    I'd expect a "Purist edition" to have you sitting on nonpainted ABS plastic with an "audio system" comprising a thin firewall and no sound shielding.

    @Ash78: I support their pricing strategy, which makes a lot more sense than Porsche's notion of leaving out useless crap and charging you MORE for it.

    @Ash78: I bet it doesn't come with the cupholders you can now get in the Elise line. Perhaps that and no iPod integration for the stereo and no Alcantara. Unless you yank the A/C, there just isn't all that much to remove from an Elise.

    In dash cd player? 4 speakers? wtf.. who needs those when you have the mill right behind your head

    Air conditioning?


    This is far from the bare minimum for regular comfort.
