Gaming With Porsche Branded Peripherals Almost Like Driving Real Thing

If cruising around in your Porsche 911 in the latest installment of the Gran Turismo series lacks a certain realism, you may be ready for the officially branded Fanatec Porsche 911 Turbo Racing Wheel gaming peripherals. Consisting of a wheel, shifter and pedals, the driving set is available as wireless controllers for the PlayStation 3. It includes support for force feedback and more. For all this performance, expect to pay a $350 entry fee for the privilege of using official Porsche branded racing peripherals. Unfortunately the setup won't help improve the realism of the whole "parent's basement" gaming environment. [Fanatec via SlipperyBrick]

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Video Preview

The most beautiful and highly anticipated next-generation racing simulator is inching its way towards completion. Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is the name of the game, and we've got a preview. "Prologue" means it's not the full game. Actually, it's like a glorified demo that will cost $40, include 5 tracks, 16-player online racing and more than 30 cars. Prologue is slated for an April 17 release date on the PlayStation 3, with the full GT5 game coming sooner or later. At least by the time PlayStation Ocho rolls around. [Techeblog]

Need For Speed ProStreet Demo Hits Streets

Because some of us are older than dirt, we've got fond memories of rocking the Lamborghini Diablo VT on Need For Speed 2 for 3DO. (We were also probably listening to The Flaming Lips and under the influence of some kind of psychedelic root vegetable). Now, the most recent installment of EA's Need For Speed series, NFS ProStreet, is available to download for PC only ahead of its full launch next week. ProStreet includes new features such as the ability to tweak the car's internals, rather than just adding ridiculous body kits and paint. If you've seen the commercials, you also know the subject cars will show every drift-related scratch and dent. That means that when you race your friends online your R33 GT-R could end up looking like a LeMons racer. The game is due out November 14 stateside and will be available for PC, PS2, PS3, XBOX 360 and DS. [download right here via EuroGamer]

It Is Good, Densely: Blast Running's Dekotora Madness

As far as we can tell this is the opening sequence from a Dekotora driving game called Blast Running. Computerized translation produced the description for the video, which in turn became the headline for this post. Dekotora driving games evidently continue on for Playstation. We're saving up our pennies for Dekotora Art Truck Battle 3, and hoping to become top wheeler in time to master the as yet still mysterious PS3 version. More »

From Bucket to Binary: Morrison Corvette Scanned into Gran Turismo

3400 hours of work and three years is a long time. That's about how long it took Art Morrison Enterprises to take what was essentially a basket case 1960 Chevrolet Corvette and turn it into a machine worthy not only of Art and Craig Morrison's high standards of finish and performance, but also of the Next Edition Gran Turismo HD. A PlayStation 3 Can be Yours For The Price Of A Car Or Your Indentured Servitude

Despite the prevailing opinion on the interweb game sites that the PS3 is not the be-all and end-all of gaming (and don't even get them started on the current line-up of games!), there's probably a few folks out there who were unable to get their grubby little gamer fan-boy hands on one during the holiday shopping season. Thank god for craigslist. The net-nerd infested haven of selling shit for free has a classified ad just for you — especially if you're in the Seattle area and you've got either an extra car or the ability to fix a Jeep. If you fit that description, you'll find just the opportunity to be able to trade your skill with a wrench or the odd extra junker laying around to snag yourself a bit of your own private final fantasy, a PS3. As a long-time Jeep owner, we'd have to agree it's probably a fair trade — unless of course, the man's got himself a Compass. In which case we say — take the new car. More »
